Tommy John should be in the Hall of Fame not only for his 288 wins and other stellar stats... He was a pioneer of the game! How many pitchers had their career saved by the surgery he had the courage to be a guinea pig for???
@@JayTemple they should! And any pitcher whose career was saved by Tommy John surgery that makes it to the Hall should have a mention of Jobe on their plaque!!!
100 percent Tommy John should be in. sure at the end of his career he compiled numbers but he was able to pitch and did so. 12 wins shy of 300 games and he missed time from his injury and strikes and surely would have won the 300. how about 160 plus complete games? .334 era is impressive pitching mostly in the AL with the DH. Speaking on pitchers Curt Schilling deserves to be enshrined too. liberal writers dont agree with his politics have hurt him but look at his stats and the bold types. he and everyone is entitled to their opinion and what he did on the field is enough that he should be in too.
Writers today would have a problem voting for Babe Ruth for womanizing (and drinking during prohibition), or Mickey Mantle for being a drunk, or Ty Cobb for being a racist.. ignoring what they did on the field.
most all politicians drank during prohibition as Washington was a wet town. Schilling is paying for what he said after baseball. this is like doing steroids after he retired. it shouldnt matter.
@@stocksgoupward5922 In 20 years none of this will matter. MLB will have folded and nobody will care anymore... they're on the road to killing the game.
You should look at Jim Kaat's career stats. He was inducted just a few years ago, and they have almost the same record. However, John pitched 1 more season, started 75 more games, has more innings, a lower ERA, and Kast only has 50.5 WAR. Kaat did win 16 Gold Gloves but I feel like John being a slightly superior starter despite having the surgery makes him Hall of Fame worthy.
Yes, look at Baseball reference, the 7 pitchers most like Tommy John are in the Hall of Fame-- and then they named a surgery after him, because he was successful after it, it's a no brainer, he should have been in the Hall of Fame like yesterday.
he shouln't be in the hall for being a good starting pitcher, he should be in the hall for pitching for as long as he did. that deserves more recognition than his accumulated statistics over those 24 seasons IMO. plus the whole surgery thing.
Eh, your argument is valid but unless you want to give him points for the surgery his case is only marginally better than Jamie Moyer's who few would argue is a hall of famer. Both great pitchers who had insanely long careers but never really had a hall of fame peak.

250 wins should be treated like 3000 hits for modern pitchers. So few will make the cut all have arguments for being elite.
Best sinkerball I ever seen.

@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace Ty Cobb wasn't a racist. The author of the book (Al Stump) that said so, has been discredited.

Cobb was a white man from Georgia in the early 20th Century.. he was as racist as they come.

If you compare him to 2020s pitchers his accomplishments are colossal. He's waaay overdue for this recognition.
I agree
If you take requests for videos can you do one on lane Thomas? Really underrated player on the nationals, snubbed from the all star team
Usually I avoid active players but I rarely see anyone talk about him. Super underrated season last year

Just one of 10 pitchers ever with at least 1000 innings pitched in their 40s.
It's a mystery why he wasn't enshrined in the HOF many years ago.

I wouldn't say just marginally, 111 ERA+ and 61.6 WAR to 103 ERA+ and 49.8 WAR
How is his case only marginally better than Moyer's, because he's also known for longevity?
good pitcher but not a HOF pitcher. He wasnt dominant at all.
