Elizabeth Taylor’s jewellery collection was legendary.
It sold at Christie’s in 2011 for the record price of 116 million dollar
Among Taylor’s most valuable jewels were the incredible 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton diamond
and the famed Peregrina pearl, a larger-than-life gem from the 16th century once part of the Spanish royal jewels.
Less well known but equally impressive is Elizabeth Taylor’s collection of watches.
Elizabeth Taylor had several Piaget watches. Some of them were hand-delivered by Yves Piaget in Gstaad where Elizabeth Taylor was spending time with Richard Burton in their chalet.
One of the most famous watches in her collection is a Bulgari Serpenti jewellery watch. It was a gift the production company Twentieth Century Fox offered to Taylor in 1962 in Rome for the filming of Cleopatra, when Elizabeth Taylor fell in love with her future husband Richard Burton.
Bulgari watch must have had a special meaning for her, as in 2010, while visiting Rome, she decided to get a similar one.
Taylor also owned quite a few timepieces from Cartier, which was one of Taylor’s favourite jewellers.
The most spectacular of Taylor’s Cartier timepieces is this Art Deco pendant watch featuring a sculpted elephant in rock crystal with diamonds and enamel details, the dial is concealed under the elephant’s base.
She also had another Cartier Art Deco diamond wristwatch with a silk bracelet, a diamond jewellery watch by Vacheron Constantin known as Lord Kalla, a golden Patek Philippe with a black dial and an exquisite sapphire and diamond timepiece by Fred.
