On May 20 in 1968, Richard Burton truly proved that diamonds are forever when he purchased the famous Krupp Diamond for $307,000 at Sothebys in New York. The actor famously indulged his then-wife Elizabeth Taylor with opulent jewels and presented the gem to the Hollywood darling days later, while they dined on their yacht in London. The 33.2 carat diamond would become one of her favourite pieces in her collection. In her own words: "Big girls need big diamonds."
