Just my opinion, but I actually think it does fairly well with immersion, though I understand the sentiment completely. My gripe is the "illusion of choice" factor it has, where the majority of choices in the game have no actual impact beyond a line or two of dialogue. I hope for more missions like "The Pickup" in the early game, where there are multiple branches that are vastly different, with different possible rewards, etc, and each route has effects on later missions in the game depending on how you handled it.

    Waterfall vs Agile
I'm a dev (not CDPR employee) and I can tell you this: there's multiple types of Agile development and each house has their own rules, kindda like playing Uno. Hopefully it will turn out ok and their agile 'house rules' are ok.
You cannot assume that just because Phantom Liberty turned out ok, Orion will turn out ok as well because they're working agile.
The real world does not work out that way.
They don't have an existing platform for Orion like they had for Phantom Liberty. (platform = existing vanilla C2077), because they don't have an existing platform, because they are implementing on a brand new engine (for them, they didn't work in UE5 before) things can still go south.
Sure, because of Agile, they have more flexibility than with Waterfall, they can turn around and iterate on things that go south, but make no mistake: things can and usually DO go south even with Agile. It's its own can of worms.
What I mean by this whole comment, so TLDR: Agile is not the new Jesus Christ, don't automatically think that Agile will solve everything, because it won't. I believe it's better than Waterfall but, again, it's not the new sliced bread, it has its problems as well. Search "problems with waterfall" and "problems with agile", I won't write an entire novel in the comments, thanks!

      @aarrcchhoonntt 8 месяцев назад

@@aj0413_ You're not wrong. But universally, in the area of software development, AGILE means you get more productivity out of the same manhour. BDUF doesn't work. No matter who you hire, a human brain is simply an insufficient tool to anticipate every interaction, every emergent property. For something as complex as an open world video game, any complete design is necessarily so low level it's functionally code. And as all code, it has bugs. Which you won't see until you run it. Software has grown to the point where iterative development is not optional anymore, not until we somehow make our brains bigger.

    Cyberpunk Orion wishlist:
    - Improved Role Playing Mechanics (Purchasing more stuff over the internet or through interactive ads, having a back story or character that truly immerses you in the role, more meaningful interactions with factions or individuals based on the role you choose to play).
    - Flying Cars/Metro System
    - Dense vertical city with plenty of activities. (At least 40% of buildings should be accessible at all times not just for quests - Clubbing, Casinos, Sports etc).

@@ssdd440 exactly! but its important to keep in mind that CDPR likes to go the story way and thats more important for me- while its normal to want the next game to be improved its funny because we take the things the first game delivered for granted even tho its clearly not so they have to do everything they did right with cyberpunk again and then add the stuff youve listed which are the features that are lacking in cyberpunk 2077. im really hyped tho because Unreal Engine 5 is looking mad good and to see a skilled studio like cdpr using it might leave an insane end result to the point where im now more hyped for project orion than anything else, even TES VI (but thats cause bethesdas track record has been nosediving and CDPR actually makes the decisions bethesda shouldve went with a long time ago like abandoning their engine in favor of a more versatile one and by now UE5 is so packed its hard to compete with, or also developing more than one major title at a time i.e. 2 witcher games+project orion+early stages of project hadar vs bethesda with TES VI)

As someone who actually works in the IT industry (specifically development of software), it's actually fairly rare to work purely in an agile method (as much as it is in waterfall). Some things you just can't test at iteration until later, depending on how you work your dependencies etc (your gun example I think is a pretty bad example I think as it is performed in a vacuum, unless you test against many weapons of its type, how do you know if it fires 'too fast' or 'too slow', although you do kinda absolve yourself if you get your customer (say, project manager or product owner) to sign off on it, you can still run into the same issue down the track as the game becomes more feature rich aka complete). It's also much harder to work in agile if you've also never done it before. The best thing about agile though is if some sort of scope change happens (for example, management suddenly decides to develop for primarily the PS8 or something) than you can arguably pivot much easier, but you know... it's still a large amount of work asset wise (and possibly programming in case resource management needs to change). Another issue is that documentation tends to get even worse in Agile methodologies in my experience, but luckily they are using 3rd party software in Unreal, so maybe they won't have to worry about this as much given that ideally Epic has done this much better.
I think a better example of Agile development is this: You have an AI controlled Bot in a room that you want to test against the player character. The first iteration is testing that the Bot recognizes the player, the second iteration might be that the bot fires at the player, the third iteration might be that the bot looks for cover from the player, the fourth iteration might be that the bot chooses from cover options, the fifth might be that the bot now has to interact with an active player who is also moving and shooting, the sixth iteration is that there are now two bots against the player, the seventh iteration might be that the two bots share information between each other and so on and so on as the development continues and more optimized code comes online (although the core engine of unreal is pretty well optimized by now; Epic of course do release more versions and I imagine CDPR would have a closer development relationship with them given that perhaps money has probably already exchanged hands with some sort of licensing/support agreement)
I guess my point is; Agile is hardly this wondrous mechanism that will automatically make the game more likely to come out on time (or on budget). Software Development is notoriously bad at keeping its own timeframes, whether it's games or anything else of some degree of complexity. I wish them luck though, but honestly I'm not sure I will dive into its sequel given that I was ultimately pretty dissatisfied with the ending(s) of both the game and Phantom Liberty.

There's good and bad about using servers for multiplayer in a game. Some of the old-school multiplayer games didn't have dedicated multiplayer servers, instead, they had server/client software built into the game so that the person hosting the game would be running the server version of the game and their friends would join their game, and automatically connect to their server, do it this way save the developer in server costs, which mean no excuse to charge players to play the online version of the game. The drawback to the server/client system being built into the game is connection is completely dependent on the host's internet connection, it's also more difficult to ensure players aren't using cheats, but if the host has a good internet connection there wouldn't be as much issue with lag from running the game on a main server and having to keep thousands if not millions of players synced with the game, I run into this issue often in a lot of MMOs where I get lag from the server because though the game is running on my PC it's also running on the main server so what I actually do in my game doesn't count, my inputs are sent to the server, then the server distributes my inputs to everyone else in my session instance, including back to myself and some times the main server gets bogged down doing this for thousands or millions of players, and you get a, "rubber banding effect," where suddenly your character springs back to where they were several seconds ago. I don't recall, "rubber banding," happening much under the client/server old-school method of online multiplayer, but it happens a lot with the main server method. The drawbacks to the old-school client/server method is you can't easily ensure players aren't using cheats, and you can't have as many people in the same session instance, so the game would just be multiplayer not massive multiplayer.
I'm working on some game development myself and plan on using the old-school client/server method to not only save myself money on buying expensive gaming servers, but also ensure the game runs smoother for a group of friends who want to play instead of them rubber banding often because of main server lag.
Star Trek Online's servers are setup to only allow up to 30 players per session instance and it still lags out often and gets rubber banding all the time.

It's hard to imagine anyone doing a project much larger than "Hello World!" with waterfall nowadays. Agile gets something minimally functional in alpha much more quickly and then tests the product as more functionality is being developed. That allows them to quickly discard ideas or functionality that doesn't work or isn't right for the game.
It also lets them build a large suite of automated tests that cover every past issue the game had so they can quickly confirm they did not re-introduce a problem they thought was cured, or break existing infrastructure. That allows game testers to concentrate on the new content and functionality which is being added at each iteration of the agile development cycle.
The bottom line is developers and testers can work in manageable sized chunks so less fall through the cracks, and there will be far fewer zero-day code bugs and other issues. Assuming agile is done right. Like anything else, you can screw it up.

A bit of a systems design nerd moment, but it's really good to hear they're moving from an outdated waterfall model to an agile model. It really helps optimize the work flow because in the waterfall model, once you move on to the next stage of development if anything went wrong in previous stages it drastically affects later stages. In an agile model, if something goes wrong in one stage, it can be fixed on the next cycle relatively quickly without having to backtrack very much.

    • @Monochromatic_Spider
      @Monochromatic_Spider 9 месяцев назад +1

That's not really how it tends to work in practice, in my experience. It's good to get away from the Waterfall because of how stiff it is. There's a tendency in waterfall projects that you do things because that's what the plan says and the plan is the plan is the plan. In an agile approach, the center of the project should always be working software, so hopefully this means that a working prototype is ceated very early and then consistently improved until everything is where it should be.
But take a look at Starfield. That game was also developed in an agile way, but the end result wasn't very good. Why? Because coordination was minimal, overall project goals were vague, and a bunch of different teams were basically just doing whatever with their little aspect of the game. All the different components work in isolation, but none of them really work together all that well, and it's somewhat hard to say that any of the components are really, truly fun.
And note that another risk is that you're either not iterating problems thoroughly enough, not being allowed enough time to redo things developed in a hurry to get a prototype working, or you're forced to develop blind because nobody has a clue what the desired end goal of the project is going to be. And of course there's also the habitual misunderstanding of "sprint". Some people out there think it should be taken literally, unfortunately.

To add a bit into Agile vs Waterfall, you cant realy compare since Agile is basically an ideology of work and Waterfall is a work flow, and Agile can cotain Waterfall style of work, but it all depends on the way its being reiterated, just like V-Model is some kind of zoomer level Waterfall(if you look at the 2 models there realy isnt that much difference)
The difference is that Agile Focuses on workflows consisted of a lot of small teams that are self dependent from the other while in a normal Waterfall the entire Team progresses in the same pace and they dont go to the next step untill everyone else is done.
    Waterfall pros:
-overall the product is more whole
    -less human errors
-the vision of the product is not lost eazely
    cons:
    -slow
    -very rigid
-changes that are introduced ar hard to update
    -expensive
    Agile pros:
    -flexible
-allows for a lot of creativity and interpretation
    -fast and efficient
-changes that are introduced are much more simpler to reitarate/update
    cons:
-a lot of human error can get introduced, in waterfall you can have very little human error cause you have 1 leader steering the ship, in this case you have a lot of leaders and some may be less capable then the others
-the product vision can be lost across multiple viewpoints
-product might be unfinished in some parts since the project can get commited to the public without all the teams finishing
AND the biggest CON of Agile development is on how involved the HIGHER Managment/executives/VIPS and stake holders are in the creation of the project. If you heard about Destiny 2 and how badly it gets ruined by gluton high execs its cause of AGILE.
Because executives are involved directly in the development they also get certain KPI's criteria they have to meet in order for them to earn their bonuses, some of these KPIs relate to optimizing costs and staff distribution (you know where that leads) and they need to reach certain financial figures in ordere to get those KPI bonuses. And thats a bad idea cause historically involving executives and stake holders into a Artistic Vision of a story can eazely end up ruining it since they are high managment and have a lot of decision factors, and if their decision factors on them getting their bonus, they might be more focused on meeting KPIs criteria rather then focus on the game's health.
Remember stakeholders dont care about a company's health in the long term ,they only care about their money and to dip out at the best point, executives even less, all they care is about their bonuses and if the company ends up going down they just swap ships
Agile is just some mumbo jumbo term reinvented by Executives and Managers promoting it as some sort of saviour among work flows but its really just a tool that allows them to get good bonuses without being affected by a company's health in the long term, its vision is always about the short term.
    also insider fun tip:
Agile was being implemented in cyberpunk 2077 aswell, and it was pushed by one of the executives also being backed by a group of stakeholders, and their wish was for multiplayer, but that executive didnt have that big of a functional team and their main lead dev quit leaving that idea in the dust (i think the lead dev just switched teams cause the focus of that team was for continuous monetization of a multiplayer framwork) ,thankfully the director didnt allocate many resources for the multiplayer and that idea was scrapped after the main dev left. That team had a KPI criteria around serving a monetized platform to assure continuous development of the game's multiplayer but the team had more vision around how to monetize it then make some original vision for a multiplayer game (they envisioned it like a HALO deathmatch kind of game)

Agile is only going to benefit them if they have proper code structure. if they tightly couple a lot of functions and features, then it's going to create issues when one sprint goes and makes a change to an object that then trickles down to all its dependent objects.

I would be okay with co-op being 1-4 players with enemy health and damage scaling with the amount of people in one lobby. The “host” is the one who makes all the decisions and chooses dialogue while the others just get to provide backup and witness the same things the host is. That way people can have their own save/progress and go help their friends too. I could see it being fun to debate what to do with my friend(s).

If we dont get any more DLCs.
I would atleast enjoy it if the Devs could just add really strong Enemy's to abandoned places. Like the mines, Bandit Camps, there are like 2 or 3 abandoned bunkers.
Also, just copy-paste some Cyberpsycos with different paint jobs and replace them in different empty places. There are really a lot of them.
I would also be great if we could revisite same blocked of bars and clubs. Like the Bargust Casino and the maelstrom Night Club.
Also, it would be just Crazy if we could get the Casino outside of the map added and possible to visit.
With a Poker Table like in RDR2.
We could than play these minigames to win Poits to exchange against katanas hightech Cyberware or unique customisables.
Make it a 10$ DlC, Resident evil did the same.

Easiest is to do it in steps.
First the essentials that you need for everything put that in vortex.
Next get whatever else and TEST if it works. Then continue.
Don’t rush it, if you mess up by throwing in everything at once, you won’t know what mod is causing problems and you will have to start over

One thing I am hoping for in Cyberpunk: Orion is the added feature of a much deeper customization system for the main character. As while Cyberware and some features were improved compared to launch, I still feel we should’ve been able to make our own character that can be as diverse as the cast in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Choosing Cyberware and appearance modifications befitting of a brawler, Netrunner, sniper class etc.
And heck with such upgrades and modifications being specifically designed for a single class you build your character to be throughout the course of the game. Not to mention getting cosmetic cyberware like the gold or silver skin mods we saw some characters use or be as wild as some of the cyberware seen by other factions in the game.
Again maybe it can be so, or maybe not. But I am still really hoping to see a more deeper customization system added in the sequel.

I remember when this game was still being talked about on the forums before it was about to come out. I, and several other people, were talking about the track record of the Witcher 3 and how it was a terrible pile of poo at release and then with a bit of work it finally became the masterpiece that we all know and love today. Everyone was dunking on me and even the moderators silenced me and removed comments that I posted but I had said that modders would save the game no matter what because of how badly we needed a good cyberpunk genre game. I myself had pledged to work on making mods and overhauls if no one else did. Just feels good to see that I was right after all this time even after all the censorship. There was even a ton of woke stuff planned to be shoved into the game and everyone was complaining and I was like dudes chill. The modding scene WILL set this game straight. I am so happy that CDProjeckt Red listened to the modding community and even hired them. Game companies should take this more seriously as the work they do is usually miles better than the quality their current employees can do.

I could see CDPR implementing something like The Division, where a mass majority of the map is solo player, but have a seamless, zero-loading screen transition into a multi-player zone which has even better gear to find and collect but with a higher risk of advanced and dangerous enemy NPCs and other players. I don't see CDPR doing any kind of co-op, but if they did they'd be some preem gaming experience

One thing i want to note: That there are concerns out there, that agile development has not as much of a "benefit" as it is taught to have. Being in such a dev-environment myself, i could imagine that - but could be just me and my situation poorly executing agile dev.
What agile dev feels like, is more of fewer but longer phases compared to "waterfall" - and you can walk blindly half the way without committing to anything. Which in theory sounds good, but also means, that lot of the time you dev blindly, not knowing what you actually do - and re-iterate over base concepts potentially nullifying significant amount of time.
In conclusion, to me, agile developement feels like accepting bad management and/or decision making, since it allows to pull away from the course even at later stages.
But Ultimately, waterfall and agile dev aint that different. Waterfall still allows redirection of the course and falling "upstream", but does not plan to - but if need be, you can change direction of the flow - and agile is basically baby-waterfalls over and over again, but what - to me - can feel delusional.
Edit: To clarify the possibly contradiction here; I mean agile dev having lots of baby steps may feel like treading on the spot and not progressing - thus, always all the parts are involved and result in feeling of low pace.

    • @Monochromatic_Spider
      @Monochromatic_Spider 9 месяцев назад

Be happy if the progress is "low pace". Some agile variants go in the other extreme. That aside, I pretty much agree, though I would note that a fairly big problem with waterfalls is how early they decide what the project is and how hard it is to keep the goals of the project aligned with the actual needs of the customer.

Something else that would be nice, is to make the generic crowded areas, less crowded and give them a reason to have that area populated in the first place… like gaining trust of the little communities area you, and having a proper reputation aspect, not just one that gives you a discount on items… take what rdr2 did, and improve it. If your rep is good, the communities treat you better, if it’s bad, the communities will try to force you out of the area.

They care about the IP, and that if Orion is broken when it comes out, we KNOW it will be fixed, and will become amazing! They showed us their dedication to make a masterpiece, even if it isn't initially!
