I had to learn to give some of my quilts away (it took a therapist). And I’m getting older and running out of room. So my daughter’s college friends are getting married or establishing households so I have gifted them. We take a pic of three we think may work and let them choose. 4 so far, a new generation enjoying quilts. And my oldest friend and her mother that has severe dementia now but still remembers me with a smile when she touches the quilt. And my 3 high school forever friends and their spouses/significant others (separate quilts). And others. It has become fun and allows me to step outside my comfort zone with pattern and color.
I give away practically every quilt I make. I just don’t need many myself. But I am excited that I’ll be able enjoy the last “favorite” quilt I made… it’s for my son and daughter-in-law’s in-law suite! Lol… it was beautiful to sleep under. 💚
I have never made a quilt for myself. I have collected fabric to make several but I have only made quilts for family and friends kids and grandkids. I have a projects list of quilts to make, and cross stitch’s for friends listed for each month from now until December. I had a conversation with myself and realized I work a lot and I live alone with 2 kitties and I do not have anyone to cuddle with. I am not dating nor have anyone whom seems interested in me in that way. I was recently told by an old friend that I have no life because I am single. WOW!!! That really hurt!!! However, you have inspired me to start a quilt before the end of the year for myself. And, I started praying for someone to come into my life. You and your husband make an adorable couple!!! Your friends will love their quilt!! 💕
Love it! I would never have thought of using the flannel inside with the minky backing. It really worked out. I am now rethinking the quilt I promised my brother and his wife.
At age 68 now, it feels like I want easy peasy. For example, I loved your original large block of strips before cutting it up. Lazy me says, make big blocks of strip sets. You did such a nice job on this beautiful quilt. Thank you....I surprised myself and gave one of my quilts to a dear friend recently.
Ok, this video finally convinced me. I'm going to make a lap throw quilt and use the flannel and minky and minky binding. If that goes as well as yours I may do all my future quilts that way. It just looks so wonderfully soft and drapy. I hope you make a quilt like this for yourself soon. And thank you for the picture!
Yes...you need to do this....❣ If you look back in my videos I did a series on a 4 patch pink quilt that I made the same as this one...and it is my favorite...so I know this combo works!!!!!
This quilt would be perfect for my sister. She recently redid her living room in grey and white and recently added area rugs that has some turquoise. Will have to think about doing one for her. It is beautiful! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Most of the quilts I make are to give away for Hospice so I don't really have an attachment to them. However, quilts I've made for myself earlier are precious to me and would be tough to give away. Thankfully my children will get them when I go to glory ❤. I love this pattern, Tracy, really well done!!
That is so awesome that you give your quilts to hospice… Such a great cause❣️ most of my quilts will also be handed down to my children and grandchildren eventually♥️
I love how you created such an amazing quilt so quickly. The use of the pelon vs the press-and-seal is such a better option. And minky binding is perfect!
yes! the lightweight stretch interfacing was a game changer for needing to be quick with minky. The best part is....it stays in the quilt...no picking out press n seal.
It's one of your favorites because you know you have to give it away! I know their colors were gray/white but now was the time to use that hideous 70s floral print you had laying around... I know you do...
When you said you loved the quilt, I hollered, "But you have to give it away!" I know how you feel, though. While I have several to give away or sell, I have a few that are mine. The Scrap Berry quilt is mine! That one is too precious. I like this grey one. I'm going to have to go through my slowly growing stash to figure out what color I want to try.
I think we have a new product here…”the Quilky”! All of the vintage heritage of quilting a blanket for your family with the snuggability of the modern day throw! I like it!
I got the fabric and pattern for a quilt for our nephew and his wife. Hubby came into the sewing room, he said we can’t give that one away. We now have another quilt and I still have to make one for our nephew.
What a beautiful quilt! I will try that fusible when making scrappy donation quilts to stabilize the edges before layering to quilt. Thanks for this tutorial! 💕🧵🌸👏👏
I’m with you I’m happy to make something to gift but don’t ask me to give away a quilt I was expecting to keep. The quilt looks great. It’s really helpful to know how to make a quick quilt.
I love that quilt,my hubby been asking when he gets his own quilt.i love the gray, but I think I'm going blues to match his beautiful eyes 😍 thanks for allvyour tutorials I get so much information.
Amazon used to sell GET THIS: 20 fat quarters from Free Spirit for $22-24 dollars. Well, I bought SEVERAL. I received Anna Marie Horner's collection of beautiful desaturated colors. I made a quilt with them. Desaturated colors/monochromatic are soothing to the eye. Thanks for demonstrating this.
I couldn’t possibly keep all the quilts I make. I love to give them away and know they will be used and enjoyed by the recipients. I do keep some of course. And I keep photos of them all. So much easier to store a photo.
I love, love the word you use, “nuggy❣️” you’ve expanded my quilt vocabulary 😂❣️ This quilt was fast, scrappy and monochromatic! It will be loved for sure😍 Thanks for the great video and idea😊❤️🐥
I agree! This turned out to be a beautiful quilt! Someday I am going to totally copy this. Ithink I already have the grays & whites I'll need. Thank you!
Good thing my husband doesn't watch my special quilting channels. You are an inspiration. I have been putting off hemming a pair of jeans for my husband. A quilt. Oh my. Love the quilt. I know your husband must have something special planned for you.
Yep; it definitely makes a difference if you know ahead of time you will be giving a quilt away! Not allowing yourself to become too attached, to begin with, and thinking of what colors/theme/design they will appreciate, while you’re making it, as well as the delight of them receiving it, certainly makes it easier to part with once finished! But one you’re already attached to??? Shock/fight or flight/terror!!! 😱 I wd absolutely prefer making another to give as a gift!!!
Wow! I'm so happy I caught your tutorial today! I'm just about to back a baby quilt with minky and I haven't ever tried it before. That said, I'm going to try a minky binding now too. Thanks for sharing that fusible tip too! I'm over the moon!!!❤🎉❤
I thought I was one of a very few quilters that keep their quilts. I also have no problem gifting my quilts if I made it for a specific person or event but the ones I make for fun or when creative juices are flowing are still in my house. Glad you and I are in the same "mine, mine, mine" club. Great tutorial again, thanks
Haha! I’ve kept all the quilts I’ve made ( well only 5). I’m way too attached to them. I have however made quilts to give to someone but I bought the fabric for that intention! Makes a big difference when you give a quilt away! 😅 Don’t you feel like a Picasso or a Monet when asked to make/giveaway a masterpiece. Hubby is clearly proud of you and your accomplishments.
That is one nice monochromatic beauty, Tracy! Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks and teaching us that sometimes going the road less traveled leads to wonderful creations. ❤❤❤

Thanks for another great video Tracy. Love the monochromatic quilt can’t imagine the doing it quilt that fast have a great rest of your weekend. Suzanne
I’m just like you! It is too hard to part with my quilts - they each hold a piece of my heart. If I know I’m giving it away from the beginning, I can usually give it away. But those quilts are few and far between. Having said that, I have given many quilts away, especially for charity. (I love the sound of your machine.)
Tracy, it turned out very nice. So many people like neutrals for their home decor. I’m sure this quilt will be a huge hit with the Cousins! ps your hubby is a cutie!
