    I had to learn to give some of my quilts away (it took a therapist). And I’m getting older and running out of room. So my daughter’s college friends are getting married or establishing households so I have gifted them. We take a pic of three we think may work and let them choose. 4 so far, a new generation enjoying quilts. And my oldest friend and her mother that has severe dementia now but still remembers me with a smile when she touches the quilt. And my 3 high school forever friends and their spouses/significant others (separate quilts). And others. It has become fun and allows me to step outside my comfort zone with pattern and color.

    Ok, this video finally convinced me. I'm going to make a lap throw quilt and use the flannel and minky and minky binding. If that goes as well as yours I may do all my future quilts that way. It just looks so wonderfully soft and drapy. I hope you make a quilt like this for yourself soon. And thank you for the picture!

      yes! the lightweight stretch interfacing was a game changer for needing to be quick with minky. The best part is....it stays in the quilt...no picking out press n seal.

    I have never made a quilt for myself. I have collected fabric to make several but I have only made quilts for family and friends kids and grandkids. I have a projects list of quilts to make, and cross stitch’s for friends listed for each month from now until December. I had a conversation with myself and realized I work a lot and I live alone with 2 kitties and I do not have anyone to cuddle with. I am not dating nor have anyone whom seems interested in me in that way.
    I was recently told by an old friend that I have no life because I am single. WOW!!! That really hurt!!! However, you have inspired me to start a quilt before the end of the year for myself. And, I started praying for someone to come into my life. You and your husband make an adorable couple!!! Your friends will love their quilt!! 💕

    It was great seeing a photo of your hubby!!! Seeing the pic really personalized your channel! Love the quilt! His cousins will love it, I'm certain!!! Agree about hesitating to part with quilts. I have same maternal feeling about them sometimes LOL. But after a couple years I begin to be able to part with them. We can't take them with us when we die, so I limit myself to a certain number of them and then think about who they should go to when the Lord takes me home.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  Год назад +1

      Right...there is a maternal factor there for sure....so weird that it's like that...I think it's because we work so intimately with the fabric when we make it.🩶 I agree..we can't take it with us...blessing someone with a homemade quilt does the heart good too❣

    I'm getting ready to do my first minky backing and binding. I want the binding to be at least 2 inch wide showing. I think I get some of the stretch pelon interfacing to ensure the fabric binding lays flat after its sewn. 🌻Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.

    Your quilt is just beautiful and looks so soft 😊💖 I'll have to try minky on a small quilt. The person getting this quilt will love it I'm sure. You did a fantastic job 😊😍💖

    Great innovation! I havecused Minkyfor binding on a self-bound quilt, wrapping it from back to front. It was a little challenging but overall I liked it.

      It is challenging to wrap it from the back to the front. That’s why I choose some times to just go ahead and trim it and bind like I did in the video…✅

    I truly love how this monochromatic quilt looks and the minky add such elegance❣️ How many 24 x 24" strip sets did you need and how many 12" single fabric blocks to make the quilt if you don't mind me asking? More people I know prefer monochromatic combos. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial.

      Oh my...I made it so fast that I didn't take notes..If you pause the screen then you can probably see how many...I got four 12" squares out of one 24" strip square. And the solid were all 12" square.The border top and bottom were 5" wide✅ Hope that helps...

    I live in a 30 foot fifth wheel RV, I have no trouble giving up a quilt. Maybe if I live in a house I would have trouble, I don’t know.
    I have a large for scraps, once it’s full I have to use at least half for small projects. I have three 20 qt tub for current projects. I can’t get another project started until one of the three is done.
    I have a notebook for future planned projects.
