Hey Hugh, great video. I'm a London Overground driver who drives this line. All New Cross Gate depot drivers learn Battersea Park (it's a diversion point for Clapham). When it's possible, we'll use Battersea during engineering works when Southern are running - to enable passengers to still get to Clapham. For the first couple of years Battersea Park wasn't recorded in the PIS system which caused us all shit loads of headaches. It's now fully integrated thankfully. Us drivers have always thought it's stupid that Platform 1 was made unusable, it could've been used as a turnaround point for us. A great short-sighted decision. The morning Battersea Park movements are great for us as it means shunting on to the down platform at Canada Water (Southbound).
Great video. Funnily enough none of the stations between Victoria and Lewisham are managed by Southeastern. Denmark Hill and Nunhead are operated by Thameslink and Peckham Rye is operated by Southern.
I did the early Sunday morning (07:47) once from Battersea Park. I was the only passenger on the train between Battersea Park and Wandsworth Road. NOTE When they first ran, the 378's were only 4 cars on the South London line.
I’ve done the early morning “parliamentary “ service from Battersea Park to Dalston Junction (following a video suggestion from Mr M. ). Thanks for this video with the all day service on the Overground, the history and the tour of that quite lovely inner London station . Cheers
Many years ago I lobbied for the 23:09 Battersea Park-Clapham High Street service, which in the end continues today as the 23:09 Battersea Park-Dalston Junction
there are also 5 services on saturday morning (06:34, 06:49, 07:04, 07:19 and 07:34 off of dalston junction) that all terminate at battersea, this is because there's a weekly block on the line towards clapham junction so that track patrols can take place.
Quite often get them Diverted into Battersea Park. When there's signalling Problems at Clapham. Fun fact had a Small Booth Moved from Battersea Park to Kensington Olympia when I worked at Kenny O years back. Somthing like 2010
Thanks for making this video. That station does very much need a total rebuild, both to make the stairs less dangerous and also add accessibility. I also think that Platform 1 should be restored, so that the frequency of trains on that London Overground branch can be raised above four trains per hour. I could easily imagine a situation where we have four Battersea Park-to-London Bridge trains per hour and four Clapham Junction-to-East London Line trains per hour in between those trains. I have gotten the London Overground service to Battersea Park on a fairly regular basis. I used to see people panicking, checking the map, not seeing Battersea Park and getting off at Wandworth Road. But I think most people realise now that they can just cross the platform from Platform 2 to Platform 3 and get into Clapham Junction shortly after arriving at Battersea Park. The one time I got into trouble (another situation where the trains from Victoria were not running) I left the station and walked around the corner to Queenstown Road, got an SWR train to Putney and then walked back to East Putney to get a Wimbledon Train. That got me out of a jam. (I do wish there was a bit more joined up logic with these railway lines though. The Victorian railway barons did some pretty weird things.)
It's in the system for engineering work like this but also has a daily parliamentary train as mentioned. Similar things occur on most tube lines like how the central has termini at Liverpool Street or Bakerloo can announce a terminus at Waterloo.
London Overground should continue on with the London Bridge-Clapham Junction service via Denmark Hill. And a new station to be built adjacent to Millwall FC The Den stadium on Surrey Canal Road in Bermondsey.
Do you think if Battersea Park is used by more overground trains that Queenstown Road should have more LSWR trains stop including Wmbledons (though I note you can change at Clapham Junction off the Southerns )?
The regular new trains per day that are on the normal timetable at present (does it change in May ?) is worse for me than the previous 1 a day for getting back to Clapham High Street from Battersea Park

I was amazed on the one day service to Battersea Park how many passengers were not confused and were coping quite well
Loved The Video, You Should Make More Videos!

No way Hugh Hiller lives close to me! Battersea Park is also my local station

Thoughts On Class 378s and It's Predecessors Class 313s and 508s ?

what about the southern service between east croydon at watford junction

I lost my photos and vids of London Bridge Overground Day which was a pain - I took some of the diverting buses and info (that was sort of wrong)

Thanks Hugh enjoyable as always 😀
platform renumbering prob cannot be done if "hard wired" into computer controlled signalling
Nice video, not sure if I did that line when Southern operated
Nice shot
take a shot every time he says "Battersea Park" 😂
Battersea Park - Wandsworth Road quicker than Wandsworth Road - Clapham Junction
2 overground videos in a row smhhh
