The reason why LCD is so common now is that there is almost no OLED panel that has an RGB subpixel structure, the vast majority uses pentile. Which gives you less subpixels for the same rendered image. On top of that the fill factor (pixel size vs size of gaps between them) is worse on OLED so far. If we are to see another non-LCD panel, I would bet it will come from either Sony in the PSVR 2 or from Samsung throwing a sick AMOLED in their next headset. It mostly depends on what you play - if you play dark games like Elite Dangerous or even Beat Saber, OLED makes sense, but for everything else, LCD is pretty good, for stuff that requires you reading small text like cockpits in flightsims, LCD will be the better choice.

1:00 to 2:20 is why I think you're the best vr reviewer. So many other reviewers will just say like "the darks aren't as good as oled headsets but it's fine." and leave it at that. To someone like me who plays a lot of darker games like Subnautica, horror games, and Skyrim/Fallout 4(with atmospheric mods to make night darker), oled screens are so important. These games are basically unplayable for me on lcd headsets after experiencing them on oled ones. Even though the CV1 Rift was my first headset and I've bought newer headsets since, I still only use the CV1 Rift because I can't get over the color/contrast downgrade of lcd headsets. HTC had a chance to stand out from the rest of the newer headsets if they had just stuck with an oled screen but now there's really no reason to choose the vive pro 2 over an Index/Quest 2/HP. And those controllers still? WTF are they thinking over there. Get rid of those already. 😅
Let's not forget wireless functionality. It makes a big difference! A non-PCIe solution would be great too since many of us are rocking laptops and itx rigs
I'm with both of ya! Still, looks like we've left behind a world where products are made to accommodate a demand. Or perhaps VR is still so young that we still are in the Ford-T stage "customers can have their car any color they want as long as that color is black"
Ben I finally upgraded to a Vive Pro from an OG Vive after your various reviews because the dark darks and color saturation is more important than FOV. I have the gear lens mod so the sweet spot is huge. Thanks for your honest opinions and standing firm against FB.
Super late to this one but thanks for being one of the few reviewers I've seen encouraging realistic expectations of the VP2 performance on anything other than cutting edge enthusiast specs, and taking the time to explain/justify your HMD comparisons. My PC specs are very nearly identical to yours (just swapping the 1080ti for a less-powerful 2060S) and I appreciate someone finally directly addressing that getting even close to the full VP2 performance is highly dependant on you having a monstrous rig. I already figured that would be the case, but hearing someone bring it up for longer than five seconds and then talk about their own personal experience with those limitations is refreshing. Great work, and thank you!
What a great review! I had no idea that there was such a huge different between OLED and LED! Thanks for showing that. What a shame that you can't even get an oled panel anymore.
The OLED and LCD discussion, you are correct. LCD has UGLY colors compared to OLED. I cannot believe no one is even bothering with OLED. Yes it is harder but it is possible to do. And I'll even say that it is not just in dark areas. In any area, LCD has bland colors.
You can do some color correction with OVR Advanced Settings because as usual OVR Advanced Settings is so awesome it's a practically mandatory download if you're a VR power user, however, no amount of color correction will bring back the vibrant colors of an OLED, it'll only just get "close enough".
I’ve seen quite a few of these reviews and yours is the best. Well done! I was hoping for a little more with this headset as you were, but your review is spot on and answered all my questions. I’ll be sticking with my valve index for now, but I’d still love to see an index 2 with some improvements sometime soon! :). I too wish they would return to the oled screens, it just looks so much better.
Great review! Not too verbose but all relevant aspects are mentioned and comparisons are spot on from my understanding. Also I still dig your relaxed style :)
Not enough people talking about the loss of depth and colour with the departure from OLED. In realistic depictions you don't lose a lot going with LCD except real darkness. But in depicting the fantastic the vivid colours you can get in dark scenes with OLED are just so beautiful that it really drives home the sense of being in a fantastic place. As for every other consideration they all pale in comparison to going wireless. So if you can afford to shun Facebook i'd probably try to get a second hand Vive Pro.
After going from DK2 to Quest 1 + virtual desktop, there's no way I'm going back to a wired headset; I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen more headsets wireless out of the box, and that alone makes the Pro 2 a hard pass before I even get to the price.
Being untethered and using your body to turn in VR is more immersive than higher resolution by far. I would also argue that increased FOV is more important than resolution.
@@chrisduncan3943 Still worth it for not being tied to FB. I use a VP1 with wireless and agree that wireless is amazing but I refuse to sign up for FB and its anti consumer practices.
Love your insights and the way you explain/show your points ✌😁 I'm still sitting on my first Vive from 2018 and been dying for an upgrade, one of these days 🤞
I'm not sure you old comparison of LCD vs OLED displays is still valid. I have original Vive, Odyssey+ and Quest 1... All OLEDs. I also have a Rift S, Index, Worst 2, Reverb G2 and Cosmos Elite... all LCDs. The Reverb G2 and Cosmos Elite is FAR better with colors and black levels than all the other LCD headsets. My understand the Vive Pro 2 is in this camp. Of course it's not the equal of an OLED display, but good enough that I don't really noticed. When put on a headset like the Index, Rift S or Quest 2, I can immediately tell it's an LCD. Not so with the G2 or Cosmos Elite. Three reason an Vive Pro interest me: 1. The better colors and black levels 2. Wider FOV 3. HTC is still the only one offering a wireless option for true PCVR (that's a big one).
OLED is only bearable for screendoor-effect haters on the condition that it isn't pentile subpixel structure. Most OLED panels are unfortunately exactly that.
Question for Ben: Were you able to get normal (i.e. full-range variable) fps output with Motion Compensation turned off? Some people are reporting that it oddly caps your fps to half the Hz setting, despite MC/MS being turned off. Except of course when your PC can render full fps = Hz). No other HMD works like this, AFAIK.
I really liked your review of the Vive Pro 1 and this review is really good too! I wish the Vive Pro 2 was closer in price to the G2, Vive Pro 1, or Cosmos Elite. It doesn't seem terrible, but it doesn't win in enough categories to cost more than the Index. I am still hoping for a good wireless VRPC solution soon that's better priced than the current Vive Wireless Adapter (WiGig 2, 802.11ay, is coming soon-ish).

You notice a higher resolution because when something is in the distance, it’s pixelated on a lower resolution. I don’t notice a screen door effect on my index, but if something is 20m away it is clearly pixelated.
You say you dont notice, but its like a window that seems clean, but then you clean it and realise how much clearer things get :) The SDE on the Index is reasonably fine, but I know when I get whatever new HMD with no SDE I am going to be so glad to be rid of it.
Hi, great review! I am loving the Vive Pro 2 so far. Question: What size cotton VrCover are you using for the VP2? Is that the Original Vive size? I noticed they do not make it for the Pro. Thank you!
When you give the headset back to HTC do they allow you to give them your feedback. If so, can you tell them that an overwhelming majority of your viewers would like to see a 5K or better OLED screens come with the next Vive HMD, even the OG Vive had a great presence and 3D effect, and of course great colors... thanks!!
Thanks Ben. The G2 causes motion sickness for me unfortunately! I miss the tracking with my Valve Index and the 120hz refresh rate. I did keep the light houses and knuckles controllers of course using them with the setup on the G2 (kind of a pain plus I can't play in the dark with the G2). I am wondering if I should upgrade to the Vive Pro 2 so I can get that 120hz back...
Great review Ben! I agree, seems like a pretty decent headset, but that price seems too steep for me. I'm looking forward to what Valve might show off with VR tech in the near future. Keep up the great work!
hi, excellent video, you have a new suscriptor, i have a question, i have htc vive original system(fisrt version 2016), can you just buy the headset pro 2 and use the station and controler of my htc vive original system?
i can run the Vive pro 2 max out with my 2080 but i have notice the headset gets hella hot even at the lowest settings so im returning it getting my money back
Hi Ben, great review. But I think you should review the Pro 2 with the HTC Vive wireless Adapter, because it's a game changer. HP Reverb and Index doesn't have that, and Vive wireless adapter is truly the best in the PC VR Wireless connection due to the Wgig tech they're using (60Ghz, 7Gbps, super Low latency). Quest 2 Air Link is not even close. Yes I know the full resolution support is still not there yet but the capability to enjoy wide FOV, in flawlessly super low latency wireless is truly immersive.
With the sweet spot, I kinda get the same with my G2. I feel it's not totally centered but a bit lower. This could be due to my face shape or eye but I have to shift the headset a little bit higher to get the sweet spot.
Most people prefer the absence of screendoor to the better colors and contrast of OLEDs, especially pentiles. Readability of small text is horrible on pentile OLEDs when compared to LCD at similar nominal resolutions.
@@mhe0815 ah interesting. Did not know that. Just received my pro 2 and quite surprise in good way. Color are better than g2. And black are better two. The fov is wayyy better. And to finished i do prefer much better base steam solution. On the other hand. It s less confortable (heavy). And sweetspot is very bad. Glare too. Because I have index controller I am very happy now with my pro. If u start vr… g2 is so much cheaper and I think it s the best choice. But if u have already steam configuration… prefer the pro 2
@@Roreaver Just unpacking my Vive Pro 2 as well, disconnected the G2 as we speak. I have a 4-base station setup from my previous Index with controllers and everything, so for me it was a no brainer. Haven't powered it on yet, but since I could handle the glare of the Index, I don't expect much problems. Sweet spot is a very individual thing, I can recommend experimenting with thinner face pads. Or just take the stock one off and hold the HMD before your eyes and see whether you can get a spot that is good for you. Once you found that, check for facepads that make you be in that spot constantly, consensus so far seems to be that for most people a thinner face pad than stock is the way to go. Good luck!
@@Roreaver Alright, I managed to dial in my VP2 to my almost satisfaction, can't do anything about the glare of course (other than replace the lenses), but what I did: 1.) Remove the rubber flaps under the lenses (they presses against my lower eyelid when going closer to the lenses) 2.) Replace the default face gasket with something thinner (depending on face shape, the thickness varies, Good results I have plenty of vrcover pads laying around, ended up using one from the Quest 1) 3.) Add a cross top strap (Studio Creative sells these, they work on almost any headset), with that the sweet spot size starts mattering a lot less since the HMD simply doesn't move at all anymore With these modifications done, she's a keeper in my book. Wish the glare wasn't there, but there needs to be something Index 2 or somebody else can improve on in the future. VP2 with aspheric lenses would be close to perfection. And I finally have a HMD that can do both superfast games like Beat Saber but is also no slouch in my flight sims. What needs to be a thing is SteamVR Motion Smoothing though, the HTC implementation is utter garbage.
Yo, what is that game you're playing in the background? Thanks for the review. Hopefully will get mine soon. First time VR user so it should be pretty amazing with these specs.
I'm probably overthinking it, but I really wish the Index had the deep blacks of the Vive/Vive pro 1. I enjoy the contrast on the original vive I use, and thought about upgrading to a Vive Pro. The Index has a lot more good stuff though. Better mic, FOV, etc. I wish I could rent them lol.
One thing HTC has going for itself is that their headsets are actually available outside of US and EU. I've pretty much given up on ever having a chance to buy the index controllers.
Anyone else see fairly prominent fresnel rings in the VP2? I find it hard to ignore... Also, I'm with ya except on the sweet spot, where I'd say the G2 languishes with the VP2. Just too small. (And maybe also about comfort, where I'd give it to VP2 due to its headstrap setup, and G2 just because it seems much lighter - and the Index was always uncomfortable for me, for some reason).
@@BenPlaysVR Thanks! Have you tried the Quest 2? I'm considering replacing the Q2 due to issues with the Link cable (I only do sim racing, which is why I run tethered).
RGB OLED displays are rare and expensive. Even brand new expensive laptops coming out with OLED screens are not true RGB and they’re 1080p. The PSVR1 had a 1080p 120hz OLED display (running at 60hz with smoothing) because Sony designed and made the panel themselves.
Great review, I particularly loved your FOV visual depiction. I feel that you, as with many other reviewers, however, are not running decent enough hardware to accurately assess the screen clarity and visuals however. This is a 5K headset, with double the resolution of the Vive Index. To test the screen properly it HAS to be done on an RTX 3090, it's the only card that can really push the screen anywhere near its full potential. Now, I get that GPUs are scarce, massively overpriced, and not many people have 3080's or 3090's, but that still doesn't change the fact that the results are going to be inaccurate otherwise. Imagine comparing a 3090 against a 1080Ti, 2070 Super, and 3070 but only running tests at 1080P and 1440p. The 3090 would not be able to show any advantage as it would be CPU bottlenecked. It might even bench lower at 1080P than the other cards. If you were reviewing an 8K monitor to see how it compared to 4K, but you tested it with DVDs upscaled to 1440p it would be a nonsensical review, as you aren't reviewing the screen. I just find it baffling that so many reviewers are saying the visuals aren't as good as they expected them to be when they are running something like a 2070Super. Yes, and a 3090 will appear to offer no benefit for the money if you run it at 1080P. Not targeting you specifically with this, I've just many reviews like this and it needs to be pointed out.
Sorry my friend's but i have a HP reverb G2 ans there is still a SDE, i hate when i notice it, it's not there all the time but sometimes it when i try to admire landscape (look far) i notice the sde and it breaks my immersion, nor only the grid effect but also it highlights the fixed one focal plan, i don't know how ti explain it but noticing sde an focusing on it make me feel the focal plan that I'm actually not looking far when I'm not looking at distant landscape...
If you play a lot of darker games is the Vive Pro 1 the better headset? I returned my Index because it was too dark to see doors in Don't Knock Twice, the Godawful God rays, Tiny sweet spot for the FOV with blur & the off ear headphones was great for hearing the neighborhood dogs barks with hearing people & pets walking in & out of the room. & I can't forget about the creaking floors too. On the Index controllers the directions of the barrel of hand held weapons is off about 20º from the trigger. WTF!!! & the design of the outer sensor bar hooks your cable. Another WTF!!!! & they don't fit bigger hands. In VTOL the rudder is also off on the Index controllers. What I have to do is wrench the sensor bar to try to get the proper alignment. The Vive wands have better alignment & can be rotated while playing. I have the OG Vive with the Deluxe Head Strap & the only thing better on the Index was the SDE. Would you play a dark game & let us know about the Pro 2?

While I'm longgggggggg overdue for an upgrade (I still rock an OG HTC VIVE), I guess the time to upgrade is not here yet. I'm waiting for either: a) A wireless Quest 2 competitor that won't spy on me way too much nor hold my games library hostage against my social media activity. I have played wirelessly before and, lemme tell you guys, the increase in immersion is just indescribable. b) A wired PCVR headset with an OLED display and no SDE. Still, since both options seem not to be on the horizon, a G2 seems increasingly tempting. At least all reviewers seem to agree on that initial shock due to its clarity and lack of SDE. Any input on that regard, other than the obligatory corporate troll telling me I'm the root of all evil for not bending over backwards to FB, money in hand?
vive pro with new lenses is for you. but a upgrade from OG vive to vive pro2 is a HUGE difference. from OG to vive pro for me was insane and im thinking of upgrading from pro 1 to pro 2
The index’s lack of availability is what kills that $1000 price tag. You may have the money for it, but the 8 week wait is what kills it. I’d like to have the index in my VR arcade but the ability to replace broken headsets rapidly is what the vive pro 2 wins for. Lack of available parts, crummy steam support (based on experiences other arcades have had getting steam to even do anything, and my own personal experience with loud and defective base stations that have gone bad with my index) it just turned me off to going index in the arcade. I have my own index and love it, but the application for the vive pro 2 being used and tailored for business application or location based entertainment that’s where vive pro 2 shines above all others.
Another thing to compare and mention would be godrays. From other reviews, the consensus seems that they are not any better than the index and worse than the g2. A note on oled… what drove me away from them is the smear I get when they transition from off (pitch black) to on in a dark scene. Dungeons in skyrim vr with samsung odyssey were near unplayable do to the extreme smearing. I do miss the deep blacks but accept the tradeoff for no smearing with lcds.
I had read that firmware or software could adjust the pixels in oled to never fully turn off, so you may lose a tiny bit of black level and oled lifespan to mitigate smearing. Its possible samsung never looked at the issue again. They seem to move very fast with production cycles.
i know OLED is good but it also cost more to be made . so maybe it not too bad the headset don't have OLED . i gotta feeling the headset will cost more if they still use OLED . but i am not engineer . so i got no real idea
The fov isn't big enough on the g2, valve index is a lot better for games, resolution on the g2 is great, but the fov is just too small, especially after using a index, and not to mention the g2 always disconnects from my pc off and on with the known usb issues with x570 motherboards, the g2 is good when it wants to work, ill take bigger fov, good enough screen resolution, the more comfortable to wear valve index over the g2, haven't given much thought on the new HTC headset, the lack of the vertical fov on it doesn't really sound that appealing, I'll pass
You have to use a thinner facial interface / cover on the G2 and the VP2. G2 FOV seriously boosts with that... as does VP2 apparently. The smaller vertical FOV on VP2 is fixed with a thinner facial cover I've heard.
So didnt you have the terrible Pixel column banding?Alot off people have this now..But htc dont seems to care and dont reply to us on the vive forum.. When you move your head you see terrible scanlines..It wasnt there in the beginning!
They really just don’t seem to really try anything revolutionary anymore. They add a couple new features and send it out into the open with a more expensive price range. It realy is sad to see HTC constantly failing like this. Hopefully they change their ways in the future
I am writing this on almost all HMD reviewer because most of then they dont understand screen resolution. Absolute global resolution on its own is a USELESS number.. do you ask PRINTER resolution ? no , because the final quality depends of the size of what you print, that's why we have DPI ! And that's EXACTLY the same for an HMD, the clarity will depends of the RESOLUTION/FOV. if you have 10 pixel over 10° you have 1 pixel per degree density, if you have 15 pixels but over 30°, you have 0.5 pixel per degree the image will be less clear, even the resolution is higher. For HMD it's the same, Reviewer and company have to start using pixels per degree PPD to really compare clarity. G2 horizontal PPD = 2160 / 90° = 24 PPD VP2 horizontal PPD = 2448 / 115° = 21.28 PPD. The G2 has a better density, hence depending also of the lenses, it should have better clarity.
So .... the discussion of FOV is a waste of time, too many variables. For me my htc vive 1 is that round circle you showed and the HP G2 is like the Pro 2, where it wide and open with the best clarity. I also have to say I'm still completely happy with the Vive wands and still use them with my HP G2. Finally, the controllers that come with the G2, are complete and total ass. Not even close to adequate. I tried all lighting conditions, they just suck balls. It should also be noted working through all the quirks of the HP G2 and WMR, is not for the faint of heart. After weeks of sorting shit out and many hours of frustration I got it all working and only then did I fall in love with it.
i dont know why people hate the wands. i used them for a long time and have no problem with them, ofc i upgraded to knockles but i still love the wands
Skipping quest 2 comparisons when it can do pcvr at 120hz at a higher resolution than the Index is a wierd move, at least in my opinion

@@amiga4life837 VR is very young, wait and see what the future holds, you will be impressed but it will take time sadly
I totally agree about the wands.
Ben I finally upgraded to a Vive Pro from an OG Vive after your various reviews because the dark darks and color saturation is more important than FOV. I have the gear lens mod so the sweet spot is huge. Thanks for your honest opinions and standing firm against FB.
Im so sad all the headsets are going away from OLED. I want them to go back
Yeah me too. Maybe one day...
@@BenPlaysVR Mini LED is comparable to OLED, and I bet we'll start to see them in a couple years.
This headset solves all issues I have with the G2: Narrow field of view, WMR bound, no lighthouse tracking.
Great video, the side-by-side was awesome and amazingly informative!
Ive been looking into upgrading my vive to a vive pro 2 and I really appreciate the break down comparison with other headsets on the market. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
This is why I still use an original Vive
@@chrisduncan3943 but you can still do it with a cable when you let it hang from the top its not that much of a different experience to wireless
The Pro 2 has wireless adapter (which is dedicated hardware, with less latency, less video compression and doesn't require any special Wifi Router)
@@Helifax19 Yeah it's nice, but the whole kit with wireless would be about $1400.
@@chrisduncan3943 Still worth it for not being tied to FB. I use a VP1 with wireless and agree that wireless is amazing but I refuse to sign up for FB and its anti consumer practices.
I could be wrong but that sweet spot has me worried. Thanks man.
No mention of Oculus at all, as it deserves.
It not deserve it at all at least for pcvr. it’s a fantastic vr headset for standalone but for pcvr its shit
good Review, thanks
Always an honest review. Thank you for the video.
So wider FOV & no SDE.. Nice! (And can also be wireless!)
I'll pick the Pro 2 over Index and the Index controllers ^_^
Cheers!
That table was so great and helpful.
Three reason an Vive Pro interest me:
1. The better colors and black levels
2. Wider FOV
3. HTC is still the only one offering a wireless option for true PCVR (that's a big one).
What was that shooter you were playing in the first half of the video called? Great review BTW.

Yup! And thanks 😀
@@BenPlaysVR Thanks mate.
Valve index with oled would be a blast and ofc good working wireless (what dream)..
*(what a dream) :>
That will be 2000$
OLED is only bearable for screendoor-effect haters on the condition that it isn't pentile subpixel structure. Most OLED panels are unfortunately exactly that.
Thank you Ben, Great review
Quality! Thank you. I guess vive pro eye owners will wait for an Index V2 now
Question for Ben: Were you able to get normal (i.e. full-range variable) fps output with Motion Compensation turned off? Some people are reporting that it oddly caps your fps to half the Hz setting, despite MC/MS being turned off. Except of course when your PC can render full fps = Hz). No other HMD works like this, AFAIK.
Great point! I forgot to try the different Motion Compensation settings. The kit is boxed up now so I can't really try that. 😀
3:17 Greying out the higher options probably only means your gpu doesnt have displayport 1.4 compatibility

@@utubby3730 I could never go back to SDE after owning a G2. Just not possible.
No wireless for Valve Index is a dealbreaker for me. Still rocking the OG vive with a 3d party wireless.
Hi, great review! I am loving the Vive Pro 2 so far.
Question: What size cotton VrCover are you using for the VP2? Is that the Original Vive size? I noticed they do not make it for the Pro. Thank you!
Yeah the original Vive cotton cover fits over the pro 2 😁
@@BenPlaysVR Amazing - thank you!
When you give the headset back to HTC do they allow you to give them your feedback. If so, can you tell them that an overwhelming majority of your viewers would like to see a 5K or better OLED screens come with the next Vive HMD, even the OG Vive had a great presence and 3D effect, and of course great colors... thanks!!
game at 2:50? looks really fun
It's called Compoud! One of the best SteamVR games, imo
Yup!!
Does the Vive Pro 2 have that Screen Edge like the ndex
Thank you for the Great comparison Ben!
Do you think we will get an index 2 this year?
I really hope so! I would love to see an Index V2 😀
omg I did not know that HTC PRO 1 has OLED display, thanks for information
Great review Ben! I agree, seems like a pretty decent headset, but that price seems too steep for me. I'm looking forward to what Valve might show off with VR tech in the near future. Keep up the great work!

Great Video!
You forgot the wireless category. 🙂
Nice Review mate. The Vive was my first VR-headset too and I totally agree. The wands get old. They could at least copy the Quest controllers.
With the sweet spot, I kinda get the same with my G2. I feel it's not totally centered but a bit lower. This could be due to my face shape or eye but I have to shift the headset a little bit higher to get the sweet spot.
Totally agreed about oled would be just good way for vive pro reputation
Good luck!
@@Roreaver Alright, I managed to dial in my VP2 to my almost satisfaction, can't do anything about the glare of course (other than replace the lenses), but what I did:
1.) Remove the rubber flaps under the lenses (they presses against my lower eyelid when going closer to the lenses)
2.) Replace the default face gasket with something thinner (depending on face shape, the thickness varies, Good results I have plenty of vrcover pads laying around, ended up using one from the Quest 1)
3.) Add a cross top strap (Studio Creative sells these, they work on almost any headset), with that the sweet spot size starts mattering a lot less since the HMD simply doesn't move at all anymore
With these modifications done, she's a keeper in my book.

I wish I could rent them lol.
yeah... the index shits on my VP2 all day every day.
One thing HTC has going for itself is that their headsets are actually available outside of US and EU. I've pretty much given up on ever having a chance to buy the index controllers.
Yeah that's a good point! 😀
hi mate. why not include q2?
I no longer cover Oculus because I don't want to join facebook. I should've mentioned that in the video 😀 Cheers!
How's the situation with god rays?
For me they were similar to most other headsets
@@BenPlaysVR Thanks! Have you tried the Quest 2? I'm considering replacing the Q2 due to issues with the Link cable (I only do sim racing, which is why I run tethered).
I don’t have a quest 2 because I don’t want to join Facebook 😁. Sorry I’m no help with that!
I'm still happy with my original vive lmao
well you will be amazed if you try vive pro or pro 2 HUGE difference from OG vive
I think G2 with Index controllers is the best solution, though I wish the FOV was a bit better.
I agree 100%. He is giving a reviee based off of the headset not even running at 5K and 120 Hz. It's inaccurate at best.
Wireless (non-PCIe) Index would be just... *chef's kiss*
😉
nice job!
Interesting. Yeah I suppose we all see a little differently. I hope you're able to enjoy VR still. 😀
I second that I think your pc specs are not getting you higher fps. On a 3090 and 5900x 144hz mode on index is incredible and I can't live without it
Would love if you could checkout the varjo VR 3 Micro OLED HMD 🙂👍
Wouldn’t that be great.
I like the Pro 1 for darker games, for sure. But if you're used to the DAS, you'll notice a compromise in audio with the Pro 1. 😀
Regarding the Pro 2, dark games felt the same to me as the Index. Same LCD issue

Sony PSVR-2 is set to use a OLED screen with 2,000 × 2,040. hopefully when that is released more headsets go back to oled
The only problem I had with this review is that he didn't even get a chance to try it at the highest resolution. He's commenting on sub-5K resolution and sub-120 Hz refresh rate. I wonder what the thoughts would be if he could have seen those.
That's a fair point. I thought this would be a good evaluation for people that have a rig like mine. I'm looking forward to upgrading in the future 😀
While I'm longgggggggg overdue for an upgrade (I still rock an OG HTC VIVE), I guess the time to upgrade is not here yet. I'm waiting for either:
a) A wireless Quest 2 competitor that won't spy on me way too much nor hold my games library hostage against my social media activity.
Yeah that's a really good point. I wish Valve had a more robust production/shipping pipeline, and I also wish they shipped worldwide.
Honestly the wands aren’t that bad...they are better for guns than the knuckles.
Yeah I agree they're better for guns. Especially gun stocks! Good point 😀
That's interesting. I haven't noticed any smearing in the Pro 1. I wonder if the odyssey was different? And yeah, I thought the godrays were similar.
Guy reviewed a high end vr headset and had to use the 3rd setting for resolution and refresh rate ☹
That's a fair point. I thought this would be a good evaluation for people that have a rig like mine. I'm looking forward to upgrading in the future 😀

Honestly, stick with the vive pro. The pro 2 doesn't justify the price difference as the pro is so damn good. Unless you have cash to burn.
Oh, you still have an 1080 TI? OKay, yeah, that 4k 90 Hz will be difficult sometimes I guess^^

Beat Saber/ Pavlov/flicking people off/ 144hz....Index 10/10.
G2 horizontal PPD = 2160 / 90° = 24 PPD
VP2 horizontal PPD = 2448 / 115° = 21.28 PPD.
The G2 has a better density, hence depending also of the lenses, it should have better clarity.
Ah HTC, why. Whyyyyyyy.
I'd love a Pro Eye 2 with OLED and eye tracking. But no. We can't have nice things :P
I wonder for the Index 2 haha.
Buy a headset with 2.5x2.5 and lighthouse tracking...
Oh yeah, this is the only one.
BTW, nobody is doing OLED anymore, get over it.
You CAN NOT properly review this unit if you can't run it at 4896x2448 120hz - sorry
That's a fair point. I thought this would be a good evaluation for people that have a rig like mine. I'm looking forward to upgrading in the future 😀
Cmon you cant compare headsets if you dont use its full potential- vp2 (extreme 120hz) and say whatever you cant notice difference anyway. :S
That's a fair point. I thought this would be a good evaluation for people that have a rig like mine. I'm looking forward to upgrading in the future 😀
So .... the discussion of FOV is a waste of time, too many variables.
