Recently have been really getting into VR arcade cabinet wizardry, so hardware like this is awesome! Thanks Ben, nice seeing you and I'm grateful for the video!
This is basically the long trusted and well respected X-Arcade Tankstick which has been out for many many years.. I have one myself. Had it for over 10 years.. The only setup you need is keyboard mode.. You bind the keys to keyboard keys that your don't normally use that way they don't get in the way of keys like Enter or ESC etc and then map that layout in game. Once you have all your games mapped to the control panel its set and forget. Using keyboard mode instead of controller/joystick mode will allow you to map those side buttons in game in any game as flippers for any pinball game. This control panel really shines in MAME. Being able to play twin stick arcade games like Berserk or Smash TV etc is excellent. Plus being able to play all the trackball games..X-Arcade moving this to VR is an awesome thing to see. I wonder if getting a standalone dongle would allow the "classic" X-Arcade line of control panels to be adapted to VR also for those like myself that already own one. Cheers for the video. .
This is a really good solution as the applications like Arcade Paradise are really immersive but break as soon as you actually try and play an arcade cabinet within the app. Motion Controllers and even gaming controllers just don't cut it. Thanks for making me aware of it. Something i'll look into!
Always happy when you post a video. Hopefully someone will innovate on the software and drop the price. Arcades here in Seattle are pretty expensive, it's not hard to spend $100 for a night of games. A home solution with tactile feedback would be amazing.
This is so cool! really good idea.I am sure they may have thought of this, but having a light gun attachment with feedback would make it perfect. I agree i love new retro Arcade but I get a bit of fatigue playing with the Oculus controllers. I think 500 bucks is about right for this, i thought it was going to be like 1000 or 1500. The idea of building your own Arcade is really cool. I tried doing this with new retro and got immediately lost in how to make it work (was trying a multiple light gun machine build) either way really great video thanks!
Any arcade controller attached to a cheap wheel stand could be a cheaper alternative. But thanks for the video! Have to look into vr arcade and pinball now
I’ve got one of these and I’m not happy with quest version of the software and it’s not your grips that’s messing with the placement of the unit, it’s the software and I’m struggling to enjoy it. Good video though
I second this. I have one as well. I think the biggest issue with getting others to play is the loading and figuring out the ROMs. Especially when you just want to put on your headset, connect your headset and play. I had problems with another set of ROMs and my Quest 3 software, maybe since I was on a newer version of Quest software. I would connect, but as soon as I was ready to play, it would lose connection. I did get another set of ROMs to play correctly, but I haven't played with it since. They asked me to do a how to video... so... we shall see if it helps others lol.
I have always wanted VR to map devices like game controllers to VR environment, like this and what Meta kinda does with _select_ keyboards. That would make something like this seamless and way more immersive. Everything needs to get better though but eventually it will get there. When I got my index years ago I thought that is what the cameras on it were for, to map keyboards and controllers, but apparently the hardware wasn't up to the task. So when I got my quest 2 I thought someone would release a game controller that could be tracked but that never happened. I think that was mainly on Meta though, they should have make it more open and let hardware makers work to get their devices mapped but for whatever reason they only like Logitech. This seems like the same, I wish Meta would work on some sort of way anyone can get anything to work.
I have a MAME arcade cabinet. What's interesting about this is that the screen size and aspect ratio can change. For vertical shooters you would have a vertical screen. I wonder if you can use the motion controls for gun games.
EmuVR allows for motion controls as light guns. They've modeled the NES zapper and GunCon and you can play MAME, FBNeo and Flycast with, it's basically Retroarch for VR. More interestingly, most emulators can use mouse as lightgun, so you could easily use Desktop+ or VRDesktop and the motion controls for anything. Couple that with mods to play old games in stereoscopic 3D like helixmod's Geo-11 and you could revisit your old 3D games in proper 3D VR with motion controllers as lightgun.
Games I'm interested in using this are Arcade legend VR for the cabinets. Star Wars VR pinball also, maybe with a mod, it could work with flippers. Or an updated model. Cowabunga collection for TMNT also would be cool, xbox. Also, color options would be nice. Could be a little smaller.
Maybe the remap tool rewsad might be something for you to remap the buttons not sure if this controller is supported but they have a demo version for try out.
Ok... so... I have to say... I am surprised someone has come up with this kind of VR hardware controller which is certainly cool, but seems very niche, but we don't have any physical guitar/drum/keyboard physical controllers for VR music and rhythm games even on the horizon. What's up with that?? Games like Guitar Hero with them, weren't they? There was also one that actually connected with your electric guitar for real...
Rocksmith remastered is now available at Steam again at 70% off, it was removed for a while as the song licenses expired but they "remastered" it and basically removed all that licensed content, I think you can add your own songs now though.
Why not have 2 flipper buttons on each side player 2.01 flipper button on left and player 1.01 flipper buttons on right. Two extra buttons duplicated, could probably retrofit that for a few bucks
Why is Chun Li Jackie Chan? I used a PS4 controller for VR Elite Dangie and I was surprised at how well it worked and felt. I suspect that, on PC, Autohotkey might be a huge benefit (and if you play a lot of different kinds of PC games and have oddball hardware, Autohotkey is practically a must). Dongle spaghetti is an upside, not a downside. :)
This arcade stick has two players, which is unusual. It's expensive, but decent fight sticks for a single player cost $100-$200. If the quality holds up, the price isn't too bad. The software was Ben's biggest issue, but software can be updated or modded.
@@krollgrend1888 You play two players with a single headset? Must be fun. Buttons are not even correctly placed. 40 yos midlife crisis today is buying overpriced plastic eJunk. Not even a Ferrari and a divorce. They know it and that's why scalpers have made the hobby stupidly expensive. And your decent fight sticks wont make you better at the game. But hey at least our guy didn't pay for that.
Visually it looks nice but it is using some really cheap craply Chinese joysticks and buttons, at that price point I would have preferred better quality. So I would end up swapping out the joystick and buttons for better quality cherry micro switch versions for more authentic feel.

We are all glad to see you are doing well, Ben. That thing looks awesome.

the fact it has the spin wheel is amazing and honestly I love that it requires assembly.
He returns! I saa your channel recently and man you reviewed more VR games then any other channel/site around lol
Seems like a really nice piece of hardware and them offering mixed reality software to use it with is intriguing.

nice! mix reality is definitely going take shape.
Neat! I had the same feedback about trying some of those arcade center applications like Arcade Paradise. This is a cool solution to that!
This is so sick. The algorithm has rewarded me handsomely today. May consider purchasing
Co location mutiplayer support would be killer

Thanks for sharing. Good to know it's not just me. Cheers brother!
That's too bad, the concept is awesome. I hope they can fix it.

nice been waiting to see how it performs on the VR end of things.
Maybe one day someone will just make a setup for pinball games alone, unless it already exist? Great video Ben.
It has PINBALL BUTTONS!

Nice one Ben
Can you play Marble Madness with the trackball 🤔

I tried Star Wars VR pinball, but it doesn’t have full keyboard support. But perhaps through some advanced trickery it could be done??
@BenPlaysVR cool thanks
Maybe the remap tool rewsad might be something for you to remap the buttons not sure if this controller is supported but they have a demo version for try out.
The flipper button issue is almost a dealbreaker for me
Yeah, if they get enough feedback on that issue perhaps they will rejig their software to fix the issue.
Wonder if pass through on EMUVR would work better 🤔
Why is a Bluetooth dongle even needed? My quest can connect Bluetooth controller without it.
How would this work the 2 vr headsets for multiplayer?
Dude are you still using the Vive wands?? :)
Yeah they're still kicking! 😂
@@BenPlaysVR with the touchpad movement? haha well I respect your opinion even though it is insane ;)

A few hours to put some legs on 😮 ?
Yeah, pretty much! But I took it slow. When it was all done, it was very sturdy.

In the Jacky Chan movie City Hunter there a part where Chan plays various street fighter characters, one being Chun Li.
Why is the cabinet of Street Fighter (Hunter), the side art is Jackie Chan dressed as Chun-Li??? (2:24) creeeepy LOL

480€ for an arcade stick, are you crazy?

I mean if you have something this big just had a TV and enjoy a real arcade also with a friend

Way too much trouble just to play games.
I agree, the software side of things needs improving
Too janky for me lol
at that price no thanks I've built many real arcade machines in the past for cheaper then this
Your use of the word gotcha is a misapprehension at best. I found its constant use in this vid exasperating.
