That's the point, really. Trump keeps questioning truth because he knows that his shtick only works when decency has been thrown out of the equation. People are bombarded with information every day, and not everyone has the willingness or time to parse it out, so flashy, unsubstantial and populist arguments will always win out, sadly. Unless we change the pace of modern life (doubtful) or at least the way issues are raised and discussed in the public sphere (including by the press and by shows like these, which are good filters but also end up adding up to that feeling of saturation), we'll not be able to deal with the real economic and social problems that lead people to choose easy fixes in populist tropes.
Because the people who support him have no moral character. They know he is a terrible human being but he gave them 2 Supreme Court Justices that will help to weaken Roe v Wade. That makes the religions hypocrites happy. He is ripping away all government regulations for employee safety and environmental protection, which makes the rich business owners happy. He is legitimizing white nationalism, which is making the racists happy. They all know he sucks, but they are getting what they want out of it and that's all that matters to these small minded people.

Robert Mueller would not *HAVE* to testify, because the whole world would know from reading the full, unredacted report, unequivocally, that Bob's report proved beyond any shadow of any doubt, that our president was innocent.
