A victim of colorism as a CHILD creates wounds that are deep and rarely heal, so I’m not surprised about Tyrese’s self-hate.
Clarence Thomas’ self-hate comes from this same foundation.
We must stop colorism in the black community.
    It literally ruins people.

He definitely strikes me as someone who has some self loathing but no real range to discuss race. Like he doesn't seem malicious, but he really needs to rethink and relearn!
    Great video as always!

Tyrese is in desperate need of an academic education. Being educated helps so much with self hatred.

Great video! Tyrese really needs to talk to a professional about his anti-blackness. It really seems like his childhood made him take a turn and he's wanting to just 'change' his external surrounding rather than unpack his thought process and actions to change himself. Looking forward to the next video!

This may be off-topic, but as I was watching, I thought, "Did Tyrese not see any influences to look up to?" I'm thinking about Wesley Snipes; other brown or dark skin male actors, even singers like Teddy Pendergrass (that he seems to be obsessed with).
I can understand the anti-blackness and colorism he experienced shaping his self image. But it's always interesting to me hearing the difference in outlook from individuals who internalize anti-blackness, from those who understand and go against self-hate; actively seeking out positive representation and examples.
    Choices (?)

Terence Howard’s parents were black…both parents were black.

I believe all his sentiment about colorism and featurism in our community. He is not lying. Our community definitely pedestalizes light skinned BP.
BW have known that BM have a preference for light skinned women but it would have been interesting years ago if BM admitted it which they never do.

🎶 “I’ll be THERE when you need me just call and receive me.” You better sang bro 😂
There is a lot to unpack with Tyrese. I’ll focus on the colorism in Hollywood aspect. Most Black male actors, entertainers, and athletes are dark-skinned/brown-skinned so Tyrese is being delusional when he said he didn’t see enough dark-skinned Black men being represented when he grew up. Lou Gossett Jr, Sidney Poitier, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L Jackson, Don Cheadle, Morris Chestnut, and Taye Diggs to name a few are all successful dark-skinned Black male actors. In general I feel dark-skinned Black male actors get more opportunities and roles than their lighter-skinned counterparts. Terrence Howard is a great character actor and Academy Award nominated so that’s why he probably got those roles. The only memorable role Tyrese has ever played is Jody in BABY BOY and that performance wasn’t award worthy at all. Tyrese wants folks to feel so sorry for him so bad as if he gets the same treatment that dark-skinned Black women receive in Hollywood and society in general. That’s what really gets on my nerves about him. I refuse to attend his pity parties. Like you said, he needs to work on his internalized anti-Blackness and heal himself.

I do NOT agree with his way of thinking, but I can understand not feeling wanted or belonging. There is trauma that can cause for someone to feel like they're life would be better if they were in a different community. With that said, one should not put an entire group in a box because of experiences. Also, many Black men have avoided the discussion of colorism, but there are MANY darker skinned Black men who face colorism, but it's never talked about. We often hear discussions on colorism relating to darker skinned Black women. Black men are often left out regarding colorism discussions.

Terrance Howard has two Black parents. I don't what country your ppl come from but Black Americans don't label ppl mixed race bc they are light skinned. He's a light skinned Black man.

Yes but we absolutely do need to acknowledge it because Black people are NOT 100% African people and that is the POINT of calling yourself Black, because you can’t wholly identify as African. This new generation has perverted the meaning to skin color or “race” and it’s truly laughable. This is why Tyla and a lot of South Africans refer to themselves as “colored” rather than just African. Because THEY acknowledge that they’re mixed. Due to slavery and inter mixing a lot of us if not ALL of us are mixed.

You’re speaking of him as an adult.
What he went through as a child occurred long before the things you mentioned.

wow I’m shocked by this because I always hear people say he so fine in the 2000s but I understand people was making jokes about him when he was a child so it’s years and years of trauma
