There is a mystic feel in Malibu. I spent my summers surfing there, hanging out with friends so many of us at times we claimed the wall and most of the beach surrounding it. It was idyllic. All day long teens on the beach, the smell of salt, sun and sea in your hair... the sun browning our young bodies and being in the Pacific for hours at a time surfing. Usually, the waves were really too small but when a swell would hit, Malibu is a perfect point break. Jumping off the pier at what was Alice's restaurant. Such great memories. From decades ago. But Malibu is indelible,a serene escape even amidst the growing crowds. As i got older I found awesome private beaches below Geoffrey's restaurant . So private i remember seeing Bruce jenner with then wife Linda Thompson riding horses along the water. It was heavenly. So sad to see and hear these images. Malibu is like an old friend you can't forget... the memories and nostalgia a Wonderful mental vacation.

What they say about beauty is not limited to Malibu. Most of the best places to live in California are near fire zones, unfortunately.

When they rebuild their homes, insurance will not pay out. This has got to stop. Construction of new homes need to be built with fire resistent materials. Wood, plastic, aluminum, drywall does not stop fire
I'm not sure it actually helps that much in massive fires like this. Besides, it costs significantly more to make a house out of all fire-resistant materials. But sure, regardless, more affordable fire resistant homes should be something the market should strive for.
@@Bristecom if you want to live in the forest, you need to pay more. You need to have fire resistent building materials, and fire suppression systems. Not having that maybe cheaper, and houses may cost less, but in the big picture it costs way more. And not just the people in California. It costs most of the country more in higher taxes, higher insurance rates and it costs the people just in California more with the added loss of life among higher taxes, and higher insurance premiums. So that is a foolish statement to make saying fire suppression and fire materials wiuld not have helped. And I am going to add this for those who think what I mentioned is a bad idea ...... ...if you cannot pay for fire resistent materials to build your house and have fire suppression sysyems installed on your property then perhaps you do not need to live in a forest.
@@vonvomit5666 Yes... more laws solve everything. Let's just force people to only buy ultra-expensive fire resistant houses because all houses can potentially catch on fire, regardless of a forest fire. That mentality is why California (and a lot of the country) is completely falling apart. People should be allowed to take risks but they should also be aware of the consequences and potential long term costs of going cheaper. It's as simple as that.
Does anyone know best practice if you have to drive through a forest fire? There must be some guidelines like using a map and fm radio to know which areas are affected and the general wind direction. Does using your washer bottle increase or decrease the risk of cracking your windshield? Do you deflate tires to get better rockcrawling capabilities? Is radio and gps working as well near fires and the air full of ash?
