yes, I would love to see a breathing and bracing video - thanks! (Also - could you address any topic related to keeping your pelvic floor happy (like not becoming too hypertonic) while weightlifting, maybe in another video - very interested in that topic in general if you have any guidance- thank you!!)
This video was exactly what I needed. I was experiencing pretty bad back soreness after my deadlifts. After giving myself a major form check, I finally felt confident enough to put 45lbs plates on the bar during yesterdays workout. So I’m barely at 135lbs, but I feeling way better about adding more weight!
I tried the tip of “face the crook of your arms toward the wall in front of you”….and wow. It helped so much!!! Added 20 lbs onto my deadlift today because I felt so strong! Thanks for the little tips to help us up our lifts! (245 lb deadlift!)
I’d love to see the video about mistakes that are made. I think it’s a lot easier to spot them when you have examples shown, as the one you showed on here!
I love SBD! It will be 2 years in March! Highly recommend. My heaviest DL (conventional) is 335lb. My goal is 400lb 🔥 thanks to you I am the strongest I have ever been.
Great knowledge on why strongmen deadlift with much wider feet, I always wondered if they're doing it even after following closely for a year, but Megan saying it's so that they can fit their gut typically* makes sense, and a much slimmer strongman Oleksiy Novikov deadlifts with very narrow feet. Thanks for this great video Megan.
Love this video so much, it's so helpful. I would try those tips right away, but one thing is that I always afraid of going to the gym alone, always afraid of making mistakes and being laughed at... so this video really helps me to recorrect my movement of deadlift, just thank you for this guidance lol
Incredibly helpful video! Thank you for all this detail. I’m new (ish) to lifting and hope to DL my body weight in the next six months. Another video on bracing and breathing would be great! Thank you!
This was a great and well explained video! I used to do conventional then both then conventional, now sumo. I would love more with common mistakes and more detail
Excellent video for a new PL competitor. My current deadlift in competition is 225lbs (56 yr old/ 140lb). My current goal is 250lbs. I pull conventional but will try out sumo with the guidance from this video. Thanks so much for great content. Huge fan.
Been on and off the wagon but… doing SBTD consistently for 4 weeks today, just hit 225 lbs for 5 today and I feel so proud dude. Next goal is 250 lbs I reckon :) love my sssc nylon velcro belt. Also I wear the sumo 2s by notorious lift bc Jess Buettner is goals. Meg + co you’re the best, love what you stand for and love getting to be a part of this when I exercise. Never stop producing your content, tysm!!!
I’m 32, lifting two years. I’m 5’4” and 135 lbs. don’t know heaviest single but heaviest I’ve done is 3 sets of 5 for 215. Best thing I ever did for myself was forget my scale and chase heavy lifts. I lost 35 lbs and look like one jacked mom (guess who I look up to??). Thanks Meg! Keep the awesome content coming 💪
These points are excellent!!! I've always referred to your videos for techniques over the years and I've said this before, it was through you that I got into heavy lifting
I primarily use a conventional stance. I recently hit my biggest PR at 225lbs, 114lb body weight. I’m doing my very first meet in March! I have been more on the bodybuilding side of things for awhile and so powerlifting has been a little bit of a newer world to me, but so much fun! Would love to see more videos on bracing and breathing techniques!
Great video Meg! My goal is to be able to SDL my bodyweight. I'm not the strongest of the bunch, but I love to lift! Missing your business videos, they were super informative! Want to learn more about starting up a small PT business!!! Hope you are having a great day!
You are sooo pretty. I know many said this, but lady after having a baby and living with small kid you look amazing. My face is grey and tired I will work on my deadlift, you are pure motivation, thank you for existing
I jumped the gun on SBTD and maxed out last week...340 lbs!!! All time PR!!! (also yoga socks are a good hack for lifting in socks! Provides a little grip!)
Thank you for these videos. I have no idea what I should be able to deadlift . I’ve been lifting weights for years but want to add in deadlifts and weigh 107. Trying to gain
Squats and regular deadlifts I have issues with due to scoliosis but do have a short torso. Sooooo many people misuse belts, don't loosen and tighten as needed, when to wear them, etc. My bodybuilding coach taught me about loosening on rests and all of that detail. They told me I need to work on my grip more, but many people use them too soon and straps can keep your wrists and forearms weak. I understand when it's super heavy, but has downsides too if used too soon or too often. I don't recall my deadlift heaviest, but I got up to 450 on the leg press when I was competing for bodybuilding lol
I hit my goal of 200 lbs. in 2022, but then had a minor surgery December 15, so I feel like I'll be starting over since I haven't worked out at all since then! This year just aiming to feel good and get my strength back safely, and we'll see what happens after that 👀
Best DL is 150lbs. Currently pregnant so that's been on hold (but I've been enjoying working on technique with much lighter weight the last few months). Looking forward to breaking 200lbs when I'm back.
Would love a video on breathing/bracing! Any other cues you can think of would be super appreciated as well! If you need other ideas, I’m also interested in your take on building your way up to a PR on a given day. Do you work your way up with 1 rep of each wait until you’re at your max? Or do you build up with a 5x5?, etc. Hopefully that makes sense!
I'm still working getting back my pre-pandemic gains, previous PR was 225# just increased my max to 190# last week & lifted it today with your program. Current (mini)goal is to break 200# during this cycle, which I think I'm on track to do, then match my previous PR, then break it.
Please do a video on belts! I’ve found wearing a belt actually DECREASES the amount im able to lift because it’s so uncomfortable on my ribs and makes so much pressure that I feel like I’m going to explode. I’ve tried loosening the belt, tightening the belt, bracing differently and nothing seems to make it any better
I had the same problems in the beginning with a SBD belt. It was much better with an inzer and i simply got more used to it. But i only was able to use a belt for conventional when i got a whalander. I have a short torso and a big hard belt was too much for me.
My sumo deadlift PR as a 40 y/o female is 243 lbs for a single this past September, which at the time was just over 2x my body weight 😊 I’d like to get in the 260’s at some point!
My max deadlift is 185lb rn but I’m trying to work up to 335. I want to be able to lift my starting weight just to see how much I was carrying around every day. Silly, but it keeps me going.
I would like to know your opinion on developing a strong core strength and flexibility to help prevent injuries while lifting. I used to work on doing inclined side crunches (maybe known as elevated side bends) with full extensions with 15-40 pounds held at my chest as well as the normal descending trunk rotations with maybe 30 reps each. This resulted in giving me the ability to really tighten and "lock" my core when lifting and moving heavy things like very large earthmoving tires and fallen trees. This was even helpful in extreme cold weather to be able to do what i think might be called isometric crunches while hiking in the snow to create heat within my core. Just curious if this is something you have tried.
Brilliant video. Thank you. I believe my personal best is 70kg conventional. My goal is to get stronger in both conventional and sumo. Any advice on grip strength with small hands? I find that my grip gives out.
My best is 190 but I'm on a mission to get 2 /45s on each side. Hopefully in 2 months. I'm putting myself on a 30 day DF challenge. I just want to see the benifits and it'll keep me disciplined. Good luck me!!
My current best SDL is just 155lbs. Im sure I could do more but I mostly focus on growth rather than strength so I just increase my reps and play with tempo. Maybe by next year I’ll be at just 185 and that’ll be fine by me
I am looking forward to being able to deadlift a 20kg plate on each side (standard bar is 20kgs so all together 60kbgs... Which is only 132lbs).. So I can have the bar on the ground and therefore actually have a full range of motion and better muscle growth!! We have a squat rack at home because the husband lifts... But is not really designed to be lifted from.
I’ve got my daughter doing deadlifts. She throws discus, and I told her it will improve her strength and throwing distance significantly. Personally, I’m a fan of the sumo stance. It gets your glutes and gracilis muscles better.
Ah! I might get those strap things for my rows. Im at 95lbs and it's hurting my hands to hold the bar but my shoulder and back are fine. I tried suitcase carriers and hanging holds to get my hands tougher but that was getting nowhere.
Definitely give them a try! They are really affordable to check out. Here's a link to the ones I currently sell if you are interested. www.strongstrongsupply.com/collections/equipment/products/quick-release-lifting-straps
My best deadlift right now is 5x190lbs conventional, im hoping to hit 5x220lbs in a few months. Still pretty new at lifting so i think i can get there. I also get why i prefer conventional so much, I'm basically all leg with long arms and no torso 😂
I have lifted 135 kg sumo. But I as the weights got heavier, I noticed that my pelvic floor isn't strong enough 😅🙈 so scared I will pee while lifting. Switched to conventional and have a current PR at 115 kg, but want to lift at lest 135 kg conventional as well.
So that some of the force you are exerting in order to lift the bar isn't absorbed by the shoe. Shoes with a lot of compression are made to absorb impact.
Just tried 105kg (231lb) sumo last Sunday and boy my lower back has not been happy about that since. Giving myself a bit of a break from the heavy bb this week.
Best deadlift was 100kg (220.4 lbs) for 3 reps, conventional. Ironically I haven't been able to get 100 for even a single since then (3 weeks ago). Right now my goal is double bw deadlift which for me is 125 kg atm. I haven't been doing sumo at all since it feels awkward, but I wanna start focusing on that in my next phase, since in theory it should work better for my leverages (tall-ish, but long torso and short armsl 😑)
The most I've lifted is 2x102,5 kg. Hoping to lift at least 110 kg when we test out deadlift maxes next week! I switched to sumo for this macro cycle, and I think I prefer it. Even though I'm pretty tall (174 cm/5'8.5"), I think sumo just suits me better. Conventional is pretty taxing on my lower back.
I'm short but I have long arms and a long torso. I very much prefer sumo and just assumed it was because I have a long history of dancing ballet and a pretty large amount of flexibility and strength in any position where I'm turned out. I deadlifted conventional for a year before I gave up and switched to sumo. I really wanted to make it work for some reason I don't remember.
Best deadlift is 225lbs for both conventional and sumo - both for a set of 8 reps. Never tried to see how heavy I could pull for one rep, but if I ever go to the gym with some support I'd probably go for it! Goal is 305lbs (2x bodyweight)
Current best is 501lb but haven't maxed since September. I don't consider myself beginner or intermediate but I watched the video because I enjoy your content and learning :D
My best deadlift ever was 100kg I did once ever lol a couple of years ago. Currently I'm pulling 90kg for 3 reps so almost back there and my goal is to pull 150kg
yes, I would love to see a breathing and bracing video - thanks! (Also - could you address any topic related to keeping your pelvic floor happy (like not becoming too hypertonic) while weightlifting, maybe in another video - very interested in that topic in general if you have any guidance- thank you!!)
YES to all of this! would love to see that video 🙌🏼
Ditto! Would also love to hear your tips about lifting with diastasis recti.
Yes please

My best deadlift is 265 lbs. Pretty happy to have hit 2x my weight without a belt and as someone who just lifts for fun :)
I’d love to see the video about mistakes that are made. I think it’s a lot easier to spot them when you have examples shown, as the one you showed on here!

You can do it! 👏

I love your laugh Meg😂❤️you’re back is going to look 🔥 on the wedding, no doubt!
Thank you!
My heaviest is 200! I have been on a program for two months and am retesting my PR Monday. Fingers crossed I go up a bit!
Came back to say I retested today and my new PR is 210!! 😁
Thank you soooo much!!❤❤❤
You’re an amazing coach!
Thank you!
Love your instructional videos so much! So knowledgeable and easy to understand!
I needed this video!! I needed help finding the correct form for a conventional deadlift...
Great video Meg! My goal is to be able to SDL my bodyweight. I'm not the strongest of the bunch, but I love to lift! Missing your business videos, they were super informative! Want to learn more about starting up a small PT business!!! Hope you are having a great day!
That's a great goal! And I'm glad you found those interesting!
Your app has so many bugs for Android. Can you please please fix.
You are sooo pretty. I know many said this, but lady after having a baby and living with small kid you look amazing. My face is grey and tired

This SBTD cycle is my first time deadlifting! My current max 3 rep max is 115, so I’m hoping to get my 1 rep max to 125 next week!
That's amazing! Great work!

Using the SBTD app and enjoying it! My best deadlift is 4 reps at 100 kg
i wanna see a breathing and bracing video! when do you know when to start using a belt? when ur back starts limiting you/hurting?
I'll be sure to cover that!
295lb sumo, hoping to hit three plates next week! The suspense of the strong supply rebrand is killing me!
You can do it! And all will be revealed soon! 😉

Keep up the great work!
Great content Meg! 🍻🤟🏻
Thank you!! 😁
When I started SBTD I could barely deadlift 175… I hit 255 as a pr on deadlift queen but know I could’ve done 265!
I would love a video on breathing with the belt!!
My max deadlift is 185lb rn but I’m trying to work up to 335. I want to be able to lift my starting weight just to see how much I was carrying around every day. Silly, but it keeps me going.

Give lifting straps a try!
A breathing and bracing video would be great! My deadlift goal at the moment is 125
Hi Meg, my heaviest deadlift is 135kg, looking to do as least 150kg before my 56th birthday in August.
Yeah m kinda struggling to choose. My coach is pushing for sumo n I think i will b better off with conventional 😔
My best is 190 but I'm on a mission to get 2 /45s on each side. Hopefully in 2 months. I'm putting myself on a 30 day DF challenge. I just want to see the benifits and it'll keep me disciplined. Good luck me!!
7:55 is so my vibe. Lol my husband keeps having to get me back to reality everytime im sad I'm not as buff as him and he doesn't even work out.
😆
I am 5’4 137Lb and I’ve been training for 2 years I do both conventional and sumo. PR 198X4 I think I can do more but my gym does not allow it. 😢
My current best SDL is just 155lbs. Im sure I could do more but I mostly focus on growth rather than strength so I just increase my reps and play with tempo. Maybe by next year I’ll be at just 185 and that’ll be fine by me
155 is great! There are definitely ways to grow without adding on weight. 👏
What muscles are being developed thru the Sumo Squats
I am looking forward to being able to deadlift a 20kg plate on each side (standard bar is 20kgs so all together 60kbgs... Which is only 132lbs).. So I can have the bar on the ground and therefore actually have a full range of motion and better muscle growth!!
We have a squat rack at home because the husband lifts... But is not really designed to be lifted from.
200lb, want 300 as my next big target but for the SBD testing week coming up, I’m aiming for 220 👀💪
You can do it! 💪🏻
I’ve got my daughter doing deadlifts. She throws discus, and I told her it will improve her strength and throwing distance significantly.
Personally, I’m a fan of the sumo stance. It gets your glutes and gracilis muscles better.
Does your dead lift PR include the weight of the bar. I'm just trying to find out it's calculated? Thanx.
215lbs last week with Stronger by the Day!!!!
Yay!! Great work!
Hmm 🤔 Did I miss the info on the more flexible belt that you were sharing that was hush til later?? Can you share 💖
All will be revealed soon! 😉
Ah! I might get those strap things for my rows. Im at 95lbs and it's hurting my hands to hold the bar but my shoulder and back are fine. I tried suitcase carriers and hanging holds to get my hands tougher but that was getting nowhere.

Last comp I deadlifted (conventional) 145kg / 319.6 lb. snagged a state record for my age group (40-44) I was ecstatic!
My current 1rm is 235 and I would love to hit 250! I would also love to try sumo this month
Great goals!
Question: any recommendations if a person has already torn tendon and bicep and also torn abdominal wall.. not at the same time
Much to my surprise my new max is 200 which I hit on Monday. Riding that high. I wanna be able to deadlift 2 plates next (eventually).
Should I hire a trainer to get started with lifting or can I just use my LA Fitness membership?
Best deadlift right now is 180 conventional for 3 reps. Aiming to hit 200 (or more) by the end of 2023!
If you've hit 180 for a triple you're far closer to 200 than you think.
You can definitely get there!!
Sumo pr so far is 97.5kg. Im moving up quickly each week. My goal is 200kg by the end of the year
Thank you 🥰
205# all time pr, currently at 190, aiming for 250#
my current best deadlift (haven't tried a pr in some time though) is 72 kg, my goal right now is 100kg
My best deadlift right now is 5x190lbs conventional, im hoping to hit 5x220lbs in a few months. Still pretty new at lifting so i think i can get there.
I also get why i prefer conventional so much, I'm basically all leg with long arms and no torso 😂
Keep at it and you'll get there!
Great post tx
Just hit a 3x205 PR this week! I am confident I can hit 280 in like... 6 months?
My best conventional was 225 lbs, it felt incredible. My goal is 405 lbs! I am working toward it!
What’s the reason behind wearing non-compressible shoes?
So that some of the force you are exerting in order to lift the bar isn't absorbed by the shoe. Shoes with a lot of compression are made to absorb impact.
@@Megsquats ah yes that makes sense, thank you 😊
I just hit 175 with SBTD. My goal for right now is to get in the 200lb club. 🤞🏻
👏 Keep it up! You'll get there!
My current best dl is 80 kgs but i would love to get over 100 kgs.
Just tried 105kg (231lb) sumo last Sunday and boy my lower back has not been happy about that since. Giving myself a bit of a break from the heavy bb this week.
Sorry, tried both sumo and conventional and probs hurt myself on the conv
Oh no! Definitely take it a little easy.

I switched to sumo for this macro cycle, and I think I prefer it. Even though I'm pretty tall (174 cm/5'8.5"), I think sumo just suits me better. Conventional is pretty taxing on my lower back.
Glad you're liking sumo. It definitely helps the lower back for sure.
Same I also did ballet for many years, tried to make conventional work and then finally when I let myself try sumo I fell in love 💕
That's very interesting that both of you have the same preference! Thanks for sharing!
My best deadlift is 75 lbs lol it's all good though I'm a beginner and I'm focused on form.
that font, never seen before! Infatuated! 👇🏻
Could you touch on weight lifting gloves? Thank you, Meg 🩷
I'm a new lifter. So I am starting at home. I will be nice to myself and say goal of 180. I can do 120.
A great goal!
Best deadlift is 225lbs for both conventional and sumo - both for a set of 8 reps. Never tried to see how heavy I could pull for one rep, but if I ever go to the gym with some support I'd probably go for it! Goal is 305lbs (2x bodyweight)
Total goddess! Thanks for the tips.
Current best is 501lb but haven't maxed since September. I don't consider myself beginner or intermediate but I watched the video because I enjoy your content and learning :D
