  • If your bike will start, but doesn't run right; if your bike requires a lot of throttle feathering or the idle to be set really high; if your bike takes a long time to return to (what you think is) idle; if tickover is not smooth and steady, then start here: spend 35 minutes with me and learn how to correct this repeating problem in 20 minutes if you're not explaining it to others.
    VALUABLE TIPS FROM OTHERS:
Kevin McMillin points out the screws are mostly going to be the JIS set (which we call PZ#), which will give you more complete grab in the screw head and a way decreased likelihood of chewing up the inside of the screw head like I have with my "use whatever works" method.
Gordo Brown points out I did not in fact service all the small lines. I should have shown, or at least discussed, rodding out the remaining small passageways (the ones from after the jets going forward into the engine, which also need to be free of obstruction). It makes me so annoyed with myself I almost want to shoot the additional content and mix it in!
All other suggestions that will help other riders will be added or appreciated here.
This morning I had to fix a fueling problem on my Kawasaki EX-500 in order to put it back into service. Because I'm familiar with this problem I decided to create an instructional video full of shortcuts that gets down to the bare minimum of what you need to do - and do well - to correct a very common problem on these bikes.
