Surprised you didn't bring this up but Topspin was originally going to have lines in the film. At least according to a newspaper from Idaho in January 2011. It mentions that Bill Fagerbakke was going to voice a "Chevy Impala stock car" in the film. And seeing how he didn't actually voice anyone in the movie and the only wrecker to not speak was Topspin, this seems to at least imply Topspin was going to be voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. My theory is that Topspin was possibly severely wounded by Cementary Wind, mostly his face. They would probably aim for the eyes to blind him so that he could be easier to take down. He might escaped from them. And hid somewhere in South Dakota. Due to him being blinded, he couldn’t scan a new vehicle mode. He was then found by Cade and the Autobots, who took him in the repair him. At the Junkyard, you can see mounts for decapitated heads. I believe that these could be used for repairs. Leadfoot’s head was possibly there as well, or Hound stole it from KSI when he and the others stormed the corporate building in AOE. Cade could’ve replaced Topspin's head with Leadfoots, or at least used some of Leadfoot’s facial parts. After the repairs, Topspin could've moved to Cuba, where he could be safe.

i remember roadbuster had a kill card and it says he is dead or something like that idk... plus there's no way he survived, the wreckers probably split up after cemetery wind started hunting down the autobots... this is proven by the fact that leadfoot was along when he met his demise and there's no way topspin would have survived if they were all together, he probably wouldn't just run away leaving his comrades behind and lockdown would literally destroy them

Here's my theory. He is Topspin and he changed his head to look like Leadfoot. Reason why he never talked in DOTM is because he didn't have a working voice box anymore, similar to how Bumblebee lost his. But the reason why we never heard him speak like Bumblebee is because he doesn't have a radio. He is a Nascar in DOTM, as for in TLK it looks like he still is but he could have had his voice box fixed a while ago or in the process of changing his head it had fixed his voicebox.

A bit unrelated but I really enjoyed the wreckers from the Bayformers dispite their lack of screen time and would love to see them transform into the same weaponized nascar in the reboot, or at the very least a weaponized f1 race car. Now I know that the reboot is trying to make it realistic by not having everyone transform into a sport car 🚘 to make the “robot in disguise” work but they can’t make a exception for the wrecker by making them a distraction for the rescue mission. For example, they could have rescue mission where they need to rescue (insert name) but they don’t want to expose themselves so they can send the wrecker first and since people don’t usually don’t expect to see a race cars on the street (let alone a weaponized version of them) it would surely attract attention from the (insert bad guys). And after they got their attention that when the rest of the Autobot comes and save whoever they were going to save
I dont want to call the animators lazy because in the last knight the work they did was amazing but i do think this might be the answer to this debate because perhaps one of them thought that by using two different autobot models and putting them together they could just pass it off as a new autobot

Unfortunately, Leadfoot had already been severely damaged. Topspin still fought to reach his friend and took a Lockdown missile to the head, destroying much of it but not killing him. Leadfoot, barely functional, began moving his parts around, replacing the vocal unit in his head with his Spark chamber, then detaching his own head for the damaged Topspin to narrowly escape with. Once in hiding again, the two would combine their remaining parts, Topspin’s body and vocal unit with Leadfoot’s head and Spark chamber, becoming a new character with Topspin’s voice (what we hear in TLK) and the Sparks of both Transformers. Best friends in one life now joined together in this new one. In this scenario, Cemetery Wind would still have Leadfoot’s body, so Cade’s line about them “taking him off” and Leadfoot’s body being dismembered in Lockdown’s ship isn’t contradictory to my head canon.

If they didn't want to make a new bot, then why did they tweak Leadfoot's head, because Topspin in TLK has these red horns that Leadfoot never had, but Paramount could've did what Disney did with Captain Rex, because in ROTJ, when the Rebels are going after the shield generator, there is and old man in their ranks, and the next time the group is shown, he's wearing Stormtrooper armor, and people had a head canon where that was Rex, mainly because in Rebels, he was old, and stated that he liked to sometimes wear Stormtrooper armor, and a higher up at Disney said "why can't that old rebel in the armor be Rex?"", so it may just be a head canon that was made reality. From what I've researched, ratchet gathered all the wreckers after their deaths and made vollybot because there was still technically life in them, before cemetary wind killed ratchet

In Transformers 2007, in the scene where Optimus us telling what happened to Sam's Great great Grandfather, when he slides into the cave where Megatron is. Why does it look like Megatron's arm is on fire. This is something that has always puzzled me.
I think it’s just really came down to we needed a gimmick type character so use an old character model and touch him up a bit. The films can be pretty cheap to cut on corners like for us fans it should just be top spin with his original head but obviously bay and the team didn’t think that much about it.
What if both leadfoot and topspin were hunted down and killed and melted down into ksi bots and after the china battle were fused together along side other bots to show respect to the autobots by bring their friends back
