i don't understand why there is not nearly enough attention paid to your videos... i find them to be one of the very best and most useful i found on youtube, and i've watched a lot of them... thank you very much for sharing your gift...
I agree. This was a wonderful way to explore colour substitutions and play. Thank you, Jean. Do you remember the number of subscribers here when you wrote 4 years ago? It's at 43.9K as of today.
I absolutely love the way your colors run together! I've taken many watercolor classes and everyone seems to want the finished product to look like an oil painting. My joy is in seeing everything mix together, which is why I love watercolor. Thank you for giving me inspiration ...
Beautiful! The background sunsetting colors are absolutely stunning! The whole simplicity of the composition is awesome yet it allows the sunset, in its golden brilliance, to tell its story! Thank you for sharing! ❤
Beyond stunning!! I truly enjoy ALL of your paintings, they are so beautiful, I have attempted to paint most of your paintings. You’re an amazing instructor!
Fabulous....You certainly have a way with skies...and you make it look like (even) I can do it...someday hopefully I will be able to paint skies that have drama..Thank You
I'm new to watercolors having painted with oils and acrylics for many years. I'm learning a lot from your videos. This painting is amazingly beautiful, especially considering that it was done so quickly.
Thank you for this amazing video! I'm an aspiring maritime artist doing ships for my a level Art project and I wanted to experiment with sunsets before I do it at college! I followed along with this tutorial and found it very easy to understand and very freeing to use my big brush! Thank you again ❤
This is such a sweet lady! I looked at this for an assignment and now I cant stop watching her videos, she needs more attention on her wonderful videos :(
I just found you as one of my RUclips artists and I can’t believe I haven’t discovered you before now. You are so talented and a very good teacher of watercolor techniques. I plan to watch more of your videos. Thank you so much
Thank you! Skies are one of my favorite things to paint too, but I'm still not very good at them, and am always lost on what to do with the foreground.
OMG YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO ME. IT JUST HIT ME THAT I WAS TRYING TO BE TO EXACT AND PERFECT WHEN DOINF WATERCOLORS. YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME. I WAS ALMOST READY TO GIVE UP. I AM GOING TO TRY THIS!
Wow. These colors are amazing and absolutely beautiful. I have given you a thoms up. Had there been an option to click on a heart, I would have done that.
You are such an inspiration!!! Thank you for sharing this demo. It's easy to follow and understand. The painting is absolutely stunning! Much Love and Respect from North Carolina, Stacy
QUESTION; Do you always use paint straight from the tube? Do you use up the extra if it dries on the pallet. Is the color more intense straight from the tube or just easier to get a lot down on paper? Thanks. Beautiful sky.
I never used dried up paint Annette. It is never as rich as paint from the tube. I usually only put out as much as I think I am going to use. Hope this helps.
Hi Jean, you really do know your skies! I must put your lessons into practice. I had a request for you. I'm so used to painting with round brushes that I no longer know how to use flat brushes! Except to lay down a large wash of colour as you did in the start of this demo. If you use flat brushes to paint with please could you do a brief tutorial? Many thanks.
Thanks for this tutorial. I tried it today but had a few issues. When you wet the paper at the beginning, did you wet the foreground as well? The paint went on very thick in the foreground, any tips for that? And did you paint the foreground while the background was still wet. I wasn't quite sure how long you waited etc...Thanks in advance.
Good Morning from Nathan from India ..... Extremely beautiful execution with simple understandable commentary. Very impressive. Pl clarify whether you have used water colour, or Acrylic paints for this work. I have instantly subscribed to your channel as I am a beginner very anxious to learn the art of painting
This is lovely, as usual you make it look so easy. Can you suggest alternative shades & brands of the colours you used? I've found that not all reds, yellows and oranges blend so well. Thank you.
Hi, Lovely sunset. At 1:05 you said you are into hot pressed paper. Would you recommend it for sunsets? I have tried it and it dries up fast, but love the smoothness of the colors so I'm willing to persist with it.
It's really a matter of personal preference. I do most of my watercolors on hot pressed paper because it suits my style of painting. This painting will also work on cold pressed paper though.
That sky is amazing ❤

Hi Jo. This is something you just have to experiment with. I do a lot of experimenting before starting a painting to see how well colors mix.
Hi,

what's the size of the painting? Looks like 1/8 sheet
I believe this was an 8"x10" sheet of paper.
What is new gamboge never heard of it.......am in Europe.
It's a Daniel Smith watercolor.
Is it water spray or something else
I only used water with watercolor paint for this painting.
Not enough thumbs to thumb upwards.
Thanks so much Suzy.
:)
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you, Jean.
Followed your lead and very pleased with the result! Thanks again.
Thanks
