    This monitor is NOT glossy. It's using a low roughness anti glare instead of an anti reflection coating like LG's tv's do. In fact you can take a look yourself in this very video at the 1:26 mark. You can clearly see the GRAIN around the bright white light and the reflection itself is blurry, there would be no such thing on a true glossy monitor. No grain and the reflection would be razer sharp. Anti reflection coatings are much more expensive than anti glare so Asus decided to cheap out here by looking for a foil with the least amount of roughness and then falsely advertise this as glossy because apparently it's reflective enough to be called that from the marketings point of view. If you buy this with the hope of finally getting a glossy monitor I'm sorry to disappoint but it's more semi gloss than actually glossy.

    Sadly Displays Unboxed showed that the anti VRR flicker doesn't actually fix the problem as it just reduces the effectiveness of VRR. Kinda defeats the point. Still, love the idea of a true glossy monitor. Just a shame the first one is 1440p and not 4K.

    • @baalrog666

      Been using a C2 42" as a monitor for almost 2 years now, I only ecountered vrr flicker in menus and loading screens, never in actual gameplay. Granted, maybe there are games which do suffer from it, but I haven't found one yet. I think capping the framerate and maybe lowering settings a bit or using dlss/fsr to ensure framerate is as stable as possible and doesn't dip too much in the most demanding scenes minimizes the chance of it happening.

    • @AnimeUniverseDE

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 7 месяцев назад +1

      @AshLordCurry that's just misinformation. Even a 3060 could easily handle 4K in any game. I used to play at 4K on a GTX 1080. Anything over 60fps is well in the playable area and nearly anything can handle 4K at medium settings. You don't have to use ultra everything.
      And there will be older games that will max it out. 240fps is pretty unrealistic in any game with most being CPU bottlenecked just over 120fps or in some cases even just 90fps. Unless you're playing esports on low settings you just shouldn't expect that high a frame rate and even then in those games 4K may still be fairly close.
      In CSGO the drop from 1440p to 4K is only from 320fps to 290fps at Ultra on both using a 3090 for reference of CPU bottlenecking. For more realistic GPUs an RX 6800 gets 240fps at both, the 3060 ti gets 290 vs 200, and 5700XT gets 220 vs 180. As you can see, in the games that benefit from frame rate you still get absurdly high in them. Just don't expect it to be the same with path tracing in the newest COD. My one friend asked me to troubleshoot his system with a 4090 and it turned out that setting just forced itself on. Doesn't even work with the highest hardware so don't freak out about not being able to run the highest settings.

    Offering a glossy option is a step in the right direction from LG Display. I'm just confused why it is introduced with an old RWBG panel; they might be trying to get rid of old stock by pairing it with a new property, but if/when the sales are bad they might draw the wrong conclusions from it.
    WOLED's advantages lie in its better ambient black depth, higher real-world brightness (i.e. at 5-25% white, on the 1st-gen 1440p ASUS) and a longer/better track record in avoiding burn-in. These are all core OLED selling points. LG Display _needs_ to push these advantages.

    Still only 1440p though so it doesn't interest me personally, as I care most about PPI. I think 30" 4K 240Hz+ with Dolby Vision and G-Sync-compatible is probably perfect. Still not sure on QD-OLED, W-OLED, or wait for MicroLED/NanoLED, as I've been burned in the past by my LG C6 TV which has terrible burn-in since about the 2-year mark.

    If I don't play a competitive shooter MP game. I would be fine just doing 120Hz Vsync to be honest even if VRR exist. As long as the game is stable at that level. Because input lag with "Reflex on" and at 120Hz, is actually not that huge for a single player. But there is no VRR flicker etc.
    But the real use for VRR is that you do not have to fit a game into a set range. And anything that defeats that purpose, defeats VRR.

      If you’re asking him, he says he prefers glossy in the video. I really hate matte OLEDs because they defeat the entire purpose of the technology to me which is the incredible contrast and depth. If there is enough light in a room to annoy you on a glossy OLED, it is also enough light to make a matte OLED look like shit. They just scatter the light across the screen, dulling the picture and turning blacks to grey. At that point you might as well just get an alternative type of panel that can get much brighter to combat light issues.

      Not sure if he'd really give a truly honest review though. He's more honest than most, but he still has a heavy OLED bias. Then again, I'm not so sure there's any truly honest reviewer out there who doesn't fully discredit LED because there's some blooming (and even then the 85 inch Bravia 9 doesn't seem to have any noticable blooming you can see in-person unless the content is basically worst-case-scenario for LED while it being the best-case-scenario for OLED. There's quite a few PC users in recent years who have gotten burned with their OLED purchase. Everyone's telling them burn in isn't an issue anymore and then they themselves jump on the bandwagon. Until 2-3 years later when they have some pretty heavy burn-in themselves while the ones who recommended it to them switch to the newest displays constantly.

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero 7 месяцев назад

      @@thesuspect1234 I think it really depends on what you want. If you want the best response time and HDR without anything weird going on, it's probably best to stick with the C3. If you want more brightness, practically no risk of burn in and don't mind a slight delay in HDR for gaming (since the local dimming/backlight isn't as responsive or precise as an OLED pixel), then the Bravia 9 is probably a good option.
      Personally I think the image quality of it is probably going to be unmatched for any TV's releasing this year. OLED has some advantages, but Sony always has the most accurate colour. The response time on the Bravia 9 is still great (heck I have no issue with my current 5 year old LED). Movies and the like are more predictable than games, so in games the HDR experience would probably be a tiny bit worse than on a top-end OLED (that said, I also have no issue with it on my current TV).
      If burn in wasn't an issue, I'd go for an OLED... but for me it is and I've been burned before (well it was a Galaxy S8 phone but still) and I use my TV A LOT. I'm pretty confident in my OLED destroying TV usage habits, so that's not an option. I'll be replacing my TV in 1-2 years and I think it's fairly like that the 85 inch B9 will be it once some time passes and it goes down in price a bit.
      Honestly though, I'm not a purist or anything. The benefits of OLED to me are marginal at best and I love blasting my eyes with a lot of brightness. Even at night just before going to bed I with the lights out I just leave my TV on at full brightness. Ultimately it comes down to preferences, needs and wants.

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero 7 месяцев назад

      @@henrywinters9496 Except OLED doesn't have better contrast and picture quality. Contrast = difference between darkest and brightest. OLED sucks at contrast, only a few recent top-end OLEDs can even hit 1500-2000 nits on a very small window. OLED has a better contrast ratio, but LED completely destroys OLED when it comes to contrast. And regardless of whether it's OLED or LED, the best picture quality goes to Sony's top-end TV's. Sony always has the best colours, balance, processing, etc. I'm not being a Sony fanboy (I don't even have or want a PS5 and I got Bose earbuds because Sony's earbuds have awful batteries that have a high chance of breaking), but fact of the matter is that Sony is the one dominant force when it comes to TV picture quality. I always see people bragging about OLED picture quality but I don't think they actually have any idea what actually constitutes picture quality.
