The songs Roger Hodgson sings that are often referred to as Supertramp songs are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music. He will often hear the musical composition first, then the lyrics come. Sometimes he will hear the whole song complete inside himself before he puts it down on paper and recording.
Supertramp as a band never wrote and composed together, there were only two songwriters for the band. The songs Roger sings lead vocals on are the ones he composed the music and lyrics for, and the songs Rick sings lead vocals on are the ones that he wrote.
There is a Repetoire page now on Roger's site where you can read about his songs and how he composed them. www.rogerhodgso...

Again, just a masterful demonstration of twelve string acoustic guitar proficiency from a professional musician.
Not only that, it's a cool song, too.
Yes,indeed!
More than cool, I'd say. Is a wonderful magical masterpiece of yearning for the divine.
Thumbs up if you think that the fact that the legendary Supertramp has NOT been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an injustice.
In my opinion they are the best group that Britain has produced. Their music to me is timeless.
This song is timeless and will forever be timeless for centuries to come. It's one of those songs you see at a concert and 10,0000 lighters come on. thanks for sharing it was a spiritual experience indeed.

Wonderful Song!!!

Roger is a genius.. a really great songwriter...
So quiet around me at this exact moment.

wonderful days
12 string guitar has one of the greatest calming acoustical sounds.
Gotta love thr 12 string.
This is the only version on youtube? Why?
+Aaron LeMaster That's Gods will my son.
+Aaron LeMaster --Lawyers..
You want more than this version? I think it's perfect. But everybody has their own tastes.
Hey, you want a different song that I think is just as beautiful? This version: /watch?v=JccW-mLdNe0
My favorite song to sing and play. I've been playing it in standard tuning for years, but it doesn't sound quite right... Does Roger play it in standard tuning? If not, does anyone know the tuning? What are the chords under, "Even when you told me,,, my heart was out of tune... "?? and "Lord I want to be with you won't you let me come in from the cold......."????. Thanks!
one man, one guitar and that unique voice that never loses its appeal after 40 years of listening to it, forget auto-tuning, artificial processing and superficial lyrics, this is the epitome of musical talent
He is a legend❤️
Me too!
Had the honour of seeing them 1983 Toronto Ontario Canada. Wow... Timeless then, timeless Now.!!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful!
It is a pity that Roger Hodgson felt he had to leave the group owing to the desire to pursue his own music on a solo basis and spend more time with his family. I think the greatness of Supertramp is that it combined his and Rick Davies' two different voices and singing styles. Maybe they would have had a few more albums in them.
A man. His voice. His words. His guitar. Creating a magic that is timeless
Grew up with this magic❤
This is the way I feel most times..... Maybe the greatest song ever....
I hear you Jane. Even after all this time. 👌💜🤍🎈
Thumbs up if you want Supertramp to get what they deserve. Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
It's really incredible how much fullness of sound and great singing and playing can be produced by one solo person. Bravo!
I think this is the music they play in Heaven.
Ray Dukes That's what I just wrote about my Up-Coming 16 hour, Open Heart Surgery;) Thank-you;) My-FAV...
I truely hope so...
Ray Dukes what an awesome comment! I totally agree!!
such delusional lyrics attached to such a beautiful song. betcha he didn't get an answer.
Oh I hope so,
An utterly unmistakeable voice.....so clear and wonderful lyrics. Supertramp were simply special with the most wonderful, memorable songs. Legends in their own right as are so many of such an amazing era of music and musicians. So,so many that we will never see or hear the like of ever again.
Roger hasn't quit yet. seen 3 yrs ago, a divine experience. Pray he comes around again. p.s. Seen for the first time Supertramp BIA tour of c.1979. OMG!
Musically, vocally, sonically, brilliantly... an absolute thing of Beauty! BRAVO!
Have always loved Rodger Hodgson, his genius talent and comforting unique vocals. This song is so beautiful.

Remember listening to this music for the first time, 35 years ago. Pure magic!
The tonal quality of this man's voice is as fine as ever, very few artists are able to hold a audience in quiet rapture...
This song is magical. Thanks Roger!, one of the biggest musician genius alive!
Mr. Roger Hodgson nothing compares to you, bless you.
When I spend time with Jesus alone in my prayer closet...this guy reminds me of him. His joy, happiness, calm, love that he portrays.
As a teenager, I would listen to this and pray. I could even play some on my cheap guitar. I would cry and want to be forgiven and repent. Then I would flush my bag of pot down the toilet. But the sacrifices of God are....
A Broken Spirit.
Father; Show me where to go,
Show me what to do,
Tell me what to say...
***** lost little sheep.Keep feeding the collection plate of your pedophile Priests! So sorry!
F**k'n insensitive man!
+Stuart Wilson Congrats you showed us all how clever and superior you could be. btw maybe you should stop internet
Knock Knock...
Who's there?
It's me, Jesus. Let me in...
Why?
I have to save you...
From what?
From what you will allow Satan to do to you.
What will Satan do to me?
You'll find out when I send you there when you don't let me in.
Heed my threats. Worship me and accept me as your saviour or I'll burn you in hell forever. It's your choice.
But...why would you do that to me?
Because I love you.
I have been listening to this song since the age of 16 in my schooldays at Eton, and still listening to it at the age of 62. For me it is the quintessential song of the quintessential album of the quintessential British group.
One of the best live bands I've seen! Now that's how you perform, with a 12 string guitar!
i'm actually 39 and listen to this since i'm 15 and the magical never falls... I have so much respect for this man and his music, god bless you Roger , stay won't you, stay won't you please
You have good taste, for a pup
I'm 55 and started listening at the same age (15). More music from the 70s and 80s. What a great time to be young!!
I'm 38, and listen to Supertramp because my father since I'm 12. In my opinion the 70's are the best popular music decade!
my first love introduced me to supertramp way back in 1974 and I'm still hooked in 2016. Not with the first love anymore but I am still in love with Rogers beautiful voice. The man is a genius!
omg:::: My first husband grew up just outside boston. we met in texas. 1983. he introduced me to supertramp. There is not a song i do not like. my husband died in 2003 and to this day i maybe remarried but i will always cry and love supertramp.
God bless you, dear. :)
Suzette Adkins
literally crying my eyes out.....I love this song, I love this musician, what a beautiful soul....I am really finding it hard to find the balance between what is gorgeous music and beautiful words and what are pregnancy hormones in my case, but either way I don't care, listening to him is one of the most beautiful things in life. Thank you!!!!! xxx
the quietest moments are sometimes the most beautiful sounding, aren't they??the most natural type of therapy that cost you nothing but your time, which is the most valuable thing in the world, because it's something you can never replace....
Tyra Suliwan thank you. :):):)
:)) Al Huggins
Al Huggins Your...Bloody-Well, RIGHT;))). Thank-you;)...
This is what REAL music sounds like ......I have seen Roger 6 times at Casino Rama in Orillia and he just gets better every time he performs. What talent. Beautiful. Love you Roger. Thanks for all the great tunes over the last 4 decades!
When the great Greek philosopher Pythagoras divided the scale and discovered the octave he introduced the world to the "music of the spheres". I think this is what he was hearing in his mind...beyond beautiful
You know a song is great when it gives you goose bumps...this one has them the whole song!...one of the most tenderest ballads ever written & eloquently delivered!
...a masterpiece!
Great song! bought this album back in the day when it first came out, totally under rated one of their best albums in my opinion
My younger brother had gone to see Supertramp on EITQM tour in c.1976, 100 miles up the road, and immediately bought 3 of their albums. We we're living together at the time, and when he first put on Even I knew instantly something very very special was coming out of the speakers. I was hooked forever. - Yes, agree, EITQM's was/IS a masterpiece despite it's as u say under-rated status. I never payed much attention to critics when I love something. I just say "F**k Them." lol As Genesis sung few yrs before, "I know what I like, and I like what I know." critics be dammed.
This is freaking genius!!! What a great version of a great song. Such a voice Roger has! :-)
Roger pulls all the emotive strings of beauty, grace, & longing in this song.
this is the original version...
Rodger is awesome, his voice is timeless, his musicianship outta this world, thanks Rodger, so comforting.
As an amateur guitar player I've always been in awe about the magic Roger can elicit from a 12 sting beauty. Guilds are awesome instruments, but they do not reach their full potential until magic hands caress them. An album that sits comfortably among the smash hits everybody knows about, at least for me. Thanks Roger.
The man is a genius-to have created such beauty is something special indeed-First time seeing and listening to this version...As others have said-this song touches my soul...Thanks for posting/sharing...
nourishment for the soul
Coming from a rural farm community to a major university, my freshman year roommate had this this album and we played it repeatedly. My tiny perspective of the universe expanded considerably during those years. Though it wasn't/isn't always an easy transition, I will always look back on Supertramp and Roger Hodgson with great admiration and warmth.
Such a beautiful meditative joyful song...
Speechless, absolutely Heavenly. If I had a nickel for everytime I played this song; I'd never have to work again,,,,,,,,🤗. Love the band, one of the very best EVER! Right to the ❤️,,,,,,,,😎.
Thanks for the love and support . I decided to take out time today out of my busy schedule to get close to my fans and know their thoughts towards my career and I came across you through my official RUclips CHANNEL insight.
@@-rogerhodgson if this is really you I am honored that you would take time out of day to respond what I have written to you. I truly do love so much of the music Supertramp has written over the years. Songs of yours take me back to dates I was on, graduations I drove to, weddings I attended, business meetings I was on the way to. Endless. Music by Supertramp just made me think, ponder, imagine,,,,,,,. Make sense Roger? Sister Moonshine, Bloody Well Right ( Live in Paris) Sunday & lists of others. With Supertramp music you could almost pick the songs to define what mood you want to be in. That was very nice of you responding in the manner that you did.
By the way, saw you play twice in Boston; yup @ the Music Hall. In fact, I even remember the girl I took to both shows. One of the shows was in the Spring, May I believe. We had an absolutely wonderful time at the show. You were amazing in concert.
I certainly hope I'm actually writing to the REAL Roger Hodgson. Would be kind of embarrassing if I wasn't. Well, at least my heart's in the right place. It's always hard on the internet; distinguishing what is & isn't real. Even the best of the best get fooled.
Roger, what are a few of you're hobbies & passions?
I would love to keep in touch with you to know your thoughts about my songs
Send me an email on my email address below
This song rips me up....the build me kills me. You can feel it
La dolcezza espressa in questo brano si esalta con le note e la melodia fantastica.un cosa carismatica che solo tu Roger ci regali grazie.ciao gaetano chitarrista from italy bravo

Oh, hey! I have two. They're named Blue, and Yellow Highlite! /jk
Hauntingly beautiful. It still gets to me every single time.
How good is this band? Roger has shown himself to be one of the greatest performers of all time.
I would be remiss if I didn't note that Roger now leaves out "God" "won't you come & get into my life..." It bothers me a bit-for one thing-IS the original lyrics. ~ Anyway, is a God-gorgeous song!
Roger made Love songs about God, the extraordinary and the music industry wants you to make Love songs generic, and about ordinary people, and ordinary relationships, and breakups and make that extraordinary (BORING!!) The music industry knows that a lot of consumers don't have to dissect songs to like them, they can like 1 line in a song and that line will make them go to the store and buy the CD or vinyl. They knew that 1 line in his song was a powerful line because he uses volume and repeats it so its more likely to stay in the mind of the listener near the end of the song being one of the last things they hear in the song. The line though was tainted in their minds by the word God, if they make God "x" then any man or woman can want that "somebody" to come and get into their life. And in terms of profit there is a "hell" of a lot more somebody's out there. I feel that that right there is shitting on the point of the whole song, its a song of devotion to one, not "anyone".
One man...one guitar...absolute perfection...
when there was musicians, that plays there own songs
Yes, was great. He's still here though, thank God, and his voice is still perfect. Seen 3 yrs ago, was a divine experience.
Every time Mr Hodgson picks up his Ovation 12-string you know something magical is about to happen.
I've listened to everything from Punk to Funk, Hardcore, Classic Rock, Jam Bands, New Wave, Rap, Grunge, Oldies, Motown, R&B... You name it... This is the stuff you keep coming back to.
This. This right here.
Come in from from the cold!! So beautiful!!
nah, the cold is the truth.
One truly beautiful song...
Beautifull song,Roger's voice is mesmerising and such a beautifull person, memories of all the music moves me today, thankyou.

this guy is a genious
This song touches every part of my soul ! When I reach the gates of Heaven this song will be playing !!!
you'll be disappointed
actually you won't because there will be no you. you will cease to exist.
@@47and28 That is simply mean, shame on you and may God bless you
I have left very explicit instructions to loved ones--IF you decide to have any kind of memorial or remembrance gathering after I am gone, this song MUST be played. It just sums up my entire existence so beautifully.
@@47and28 That may not be true. I died 3 times an each time I felt really wonderful an my spirit was strong. I know you like doin this to people but think about it.
I do not care how many times that I hear this song, it transports me to another place. Beauty in his words, beauty in his song, feeling so encompassing. I saw him in Niagara Falls and long to see him again. I want my grandchildren to experience his music in person. Each time that I hear this, it is like a new beginning, the first time that I have heard it. Thank you, Roger for making a way into our lives with your love of music.
For 😊

Even In The Quietest Moments
Supertramp
Album: Even in the Quietest Moments...
Even in the quietest moments
I wish I knew
What I had to do
And even though the sun is shining
Well I feel the rain
Here it comes again, dear
And even when you showed me
My heart was out of tune
For there's a shadow of doubt
That's not letting me find you too soon
The music that you gave me
The language of my soul
Oh Lord, I want to be with you
Won't you let me come in from the cold?
Don't you let the sun fade away
Don't you let the sun fade away
Don't you let the sun be leaving
Won't you come to me soon
And even though the stars are listening
And the ocean's deep (sea)
I just go to sleep
And then I create a silent movie
You become the star
Is that what you are, dear?
Your whisper tells a secret
Your laughter brings me joy
And a wonder of feeling
I'm nature's own little boy
But still the tears keep falling
They're raining from the sky
Well there's a lot of me got
To go under before I get high
Don't you let the sun disappear
Don't you let the sun disappear
Don't you let the sun be leaving
No, you can't be leaving my life
Say that you won't be leaving my life
Say that you won't be leaving my life
Say won't you please, stay won't you please
Say won't you please, stay won't you please
Lord, won't you come and get into my life
Lord, won't you come and get into my life
Say won't you please, stay won't you please
Stay won't you please, say won't you please
Oh Lord, don't go
And even when the song is over
Where have I been
Was it just a dream?
And though your door is always open
Where do I begin
May I please come in, dear?

I think anyone who likes 1 or 100 of Supertramp songs should give "Lord is it mine". a listen. It has nothing to do with religion why I'm Soo moved by this song! Actually I'm agnostic!!!! It's Just that song always puts me in a place where I'd stay forever!!!! 👍🤗
Roger Hodgson; eres único: Tu musica y tu voz permanecerán para siempre.
WHY DONT THEY TELL US WHAT YEAR AND WHERE THIS TOOK PLACE...????
Another great one. Such a touching sad song. I think I am going to weep. lol. I am sure alot of people can relate to this.
@mbumburu thank you.....my baby is now almost 5 months old and now it's two of us enjoying it!! she calms down as soon as she hears Roger's voice. beautiful. what a gift to treasure forever.
Roger you are the greatest. Cannot wait to see you this Sunday!
O, you lucky duck. Seen 3 yrs ago, divine evening.
I'm tearing up. This song is so beautiful.
one of the most beautifull songs (supertramp...) I ever heard
Hello this is for my Uncle Frank who passed away his son Vito with his family's I care for you s
Son parte de mi vida
JUST BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!
Sad to see that the Supertramp Live In Paris of version of this has been taken down yet again. This is a decent effort, but that Paris DVD version is so epic that you can even hear the crowd going nuts as he hits certain notes towards the end. Why would you want your best ever live version of this song taken down in favor of numerous solo versions that are very good, but far beneath the other? Why not leave them all up for fans to enjoy? If anyone wants a reminder of that Paris (1979) version from the DVD (nice quality as well), it's on dailymotion. It seems to be everywhere other than RUclips for some odd reason.
Beautiful Song, Dear Roger Hodgson...
how is it possible there could be 5 dislikes ??? this man is a true musician not like todays idiots absolutely the best song ive heard it brings memories when i was 20 yrs old im 50 now and still love it to this day !!
Out of this world.... simply GREAT....
Truly one of my all time favorites !!!
Just beautiful!
One of the greatest songs ever penned about INSPIRATION. He dialogs with his "muse", which mingles with divinity, and dialogs with himself too in the process. He pleads that this inspiration don't fade away like the sun. As many musicians tell, sometimes these muse's visits ocurr in the night, confounding themselves with slumbers. Only a superior composer uses to have these visits on a regular basis, and these are the artists who can write a song about the experience. Mark Knopfler was even "stolen" by a selfish or foolish muse - he tells that on "Your Latest Trick".
I love this song and this is the by far best version. I love the twelve string
Thanks for the love and support . I decided to take out time today out of my busy schedule to get close to my fans and know their thoughts towards my career and I came across you through my official RUclips CHANNEL insight..

@irfrapg Well said, gives me the same feelings . One of my earliest memories is listening to Dreamer on the headphones in the 70`s :) Thank you Roger for sharing your soul with the world !

Bump because it shouldn’t be 5 years old :)
thank you for posting this great song
I can't put into words how I really feel about this group, thier songs - the time period in my life was as a teenager and I let songs influence me to a great degree. I really love this music.
