Moved to Park Slope in '74; joined the coop in about '78 -- still love both and I've lived in Bed-Stuy; Bellerose, Queens; E. Village; Carroll Gardens; Williamsburg, and Greenpoint before I found P.S. My wife and I both expect to live here for the rest of our lives. Re: picking up clothes, etc. on the street -- the gate discount! We heard about a grandmother who was pissed off that her grandchildren were learning from our neighborhood that everything is free.
I live in Park Slope and I did as a kid, honestly I know that there are a lot of yuppies but a lot of the people I know aren't, and I went to 321. But then again maybe I'm a yuppy and I don't know it, oh god, my life is a lie, nooooooooooooo!!!
(Update) Moved to UWS near Columbia. $3300 for 2br, daughter heading off to college or parts unknown during her year off. No longer in the Slope but glad I raised my kid there. 👌
I lived in Park Slope from ages 2 through 11 and then 19 through 35. I was priced out at that point and now Yes...This film depicts the majority of Slopers. Yes, the restaurants and bars are good. Yes, the neighborhood is still architecturally beautiful but the people leave a Lot to be desired as do the Prices. I have been living ten minutes away from Park Slope for the past 16 years and am perfectly Happy at having left the Pretentious Attitudes Behind.
I live in the Slope but I'm mired in poverty so thanks for satisfying my curiosity about how the rest of you folks live. Thanks to Rent Stabilization I get to be your neighbor 4 now & in my eavesdropping I can confirm more than half of what is said here. LOL @ the stroller shots & "Why do I even have a fucking car?!" How about: "Married men are disgusting." "I have the best tutor for English if you ever decide that, you know, Caitlin really needs it." "What should Mommy get for dinner tonight?"
I'm from Astoria, Queens. I remember my mom yelling at me and my sister to stop jumping up and down because of the downstairs neighbors. Except for the part about finding a new apartment and that school district crap. They were firm believers of the "you can learn anywhere if you really wanted to" approach.
I live in Park Slope. I grew up here. And my friends know these parents. I went to 321 when I was little and the food coup still scares the shit out of me. When I was little I found a bowling ball and a vacume outside on the side walk and I always left them on other people's stoops as practical jokes with notes. My mom goes to Yoga and this is actually like my life. But hey its my Neighborhood HAHAHA!
Park slope, used to be South Brooklyn, started to decline when the yuppies moved in the 60's and has only gotten worse. Ya cannot even get decent italian bread any more with out going all over town!!
Funny is funny and this is funny. It is not insulting or rude. My favorite parts are the stroller scenes, red meat soy ice cream and "Want to go to Starbucks?" "Who are you?" Good times.
I live in the slope and I love this video. Although it's convenient and fun here, people are constantly going off on yuppy tangents ( no I'm not a member of the coop :) )
oh god. lots of my friends live there. the worst moment is when you go to their house, and you pick up something you think is a normal snack, and its actually seaweed and dried fish or something.
i bought a brownstone in BED/Stuy instead...and they i can actually rehearse my band and no one complains...in fact when i DON'T rehearse people say...hey bro''where's the music''??lolol
Although I feel the hate from non park slopers, I loved growing up there. Not everyone is part of the co-op (i know kill me right?) and there is a great difference between the new rich parents who are living here versus the middle aged parents who are quick frankly just old....and jewish. Would have loved to see a scene at two boots or bareburger where there are parking spots for the massive amounts of strollers. Great video
Anyone remember the Iron Horse Pub? I grew up on Eastern Pkwy in the 60s and 70s....went to Ethical Culture for 6-8 grades. Always hung out in PS. Still go to 7th avenue when I'm back visiting mom (who still lives on Eastern Pkwy).
OMG I remember when we lived in Brooklyn(i miss it with my entire heart) and my family and I loved that house haha strangely enough, it is an icon, something that we remember very well about living there haha.
And to think, 1978 was the beginning of this.... Anyone remember - "Something for Mothers" ? Our little play groups, before they started incorporating...
@thediazbrothers I noticed that, too. However, I do recognize the brownstone with the gas lights as being on Park Place, (2:42) so I think they already knew that.
I grew up in Philadelphia - but in a neighborhood equally as... "uppity" (for lack of a better term). I love this video becuase it pretty much describes all these types of towns. They could pretty much re-label this video "Shit (my hometown) Parents Say" and it would make just as much sense. Thumbs up!
Wicked and true. This is why if I ever have children, I'm planning to move somewhere else. Oh, and it's the Slope, there should be at least one lesbian parent in the video, even if many lesbians have been priced out of the nabe by now.
ok ... alternate side parking problem everywhere in NYC. You probably have a better shot in Park Slope than in other neighborhoods even though most people in Park Slope do not know Brooklyn at all.
The Great Quest...not eternal youth nor the Unified Field Theory...a lightweight and compact yet durable and easily collapsible stroller. That and enough sippy cups.
Lol I don't quite understand why everybody hates that pink house. I pass by it all the time, and everybody says its not "Brooklyn Like" but what ever :-)

Re: picking up clothes, etc. on the street -- the gate discount! We heard about a grandmother who was pissed off that her grandchildren were learning from our neighborhood that everything is free.
"We don't say no in our house" park slope in 1 sentence 10/10
Brought to you by people who don't hold a real job, but live in Park Slope because they have huge trust funds.
I live in Park Slope and I did as a kid, honestly I know that there are a lot of yuppies but a lot of the people I know aren't, and I went to 321. But then again maybe I'm a yuppy and I don't know it, oh god, my life is a lie, nooooooooooooo!!!
Did you go to the Beck concert at Prospect Park on August 4th 2013?
i also went to 321 but i’m 14
(Update) Moved to UWS near Columbia. $3300 for 2br, daughter heading off to college or parts unknown during her year off. No longer in the Slope but glad I raised my kid there. 👌
Ha I was just watching this, thinking "$7 is actually about right for organic milk" - but now that's for a half-gallon.
"Wanna go to starbucks?"
"Who ARE you?"
I lived in Flatbush for years. The excuse there is, "I can't tonight. It's night, and I don't dare go outside."
So on point I'm born and raised in New York. These people get on my nerves here in park slope. New York is not fun anymore.
I'm not from New York, and I completely understand what you're saying. They get on my nerves too, I feel for you and NY.
My condolences.
thanks a lot
It's weird, I miss the old NY . And I can't even fully understand what it was, but the significance of it remains in the world.
Two sets of my great-grandparents lived & raised families in Brooklyn. You bet they were far removed from this scenario!!!
I'm a Park Slope nanny and this is spot on! :D
Cool! What’s it like being a nanny?

I've said/done at least half of this stuff and I'm a San Francisco mom. Some things are "universal" among city parents!
I live in the Slope but I'm mired in poverty so thanks for satisfying my curiosity about how the rest of you folks live. 100% certified accurate! Thanks Katie and Soren. Would write more but have to run off for my CoOp shift...
Couldnt stop laughing when he took the food processor and the waffle maker...

Except for the part about finding a new apartment and that school district crap. They were firm believers of the "you can learn anywhere if you really wanted to" approach.
Everybody that lives in Park Slope probably went to the Beck concert in Prospect Park on August 4th 2013!
good for you! i admire its unique-ness

Ya cannot even get decent italian bread any more with out going all over town!!
I can't get an old school slice of good pizza, we go to redhook for that now
I never understood where the problem started with all that. I think its perfectly fine
This makes me miss the days before park slope parents populated park slope.
So, like, 30+ years ago ..
Spot on! Love it that PSP can laugh at themselves.
Thats so true about the furniture thing. I find all my good clothes on the streets of park slope...
well, I'm not a parent, but I am a Sloper in my 30's and this was spot on...! Nice work :)
This is the funniest video I've seen in a while.
Very good job...but needed a double wide stroller
That pink brownstone used to be owned by my family! Then someone else bought it and painted it bright pink. It was in the paper and everything :D
I live around the corner and SO wish it was still pink. The gentleman who owned it them was very refined and dapper, actually
So she's entering her basement apartment with a stroller and asking her kids not to jump and disturb the downstairs neighbors?
It's a door to a stairway leading upward. But good eye!
Hahaha love it! Used to live in Park Slope. That co-op is crazy cultish!
I like this, this couple has a wonderful sense of humor. That they would film this means maybe they have some other prioritys else where.
Funny is funny and this is funny. It is not insulting or rude. My favorite parts are the stroller scenes, red meat soy ice cream and "Want to go to Starbucks?" "Who are you?" Good times.

this meme is never getting old
This is why I got the hell out of there. Well done!
oh god. lots of my friends live there. the worst moment is when you go to their house, and you pick up something you think is a normal snack, and its actually seaweed and dried fish or something.
oh shit. this is an exact replica of my parents...
$250 for a touch-up good Lord!
I never got why people refer to manhattan as the city; we live in Brooklyn we're already in New York City!
hahahahah omg this is amazing. and I've never been to Park Slope I'm just aware with its image and rep, best neighorhood ever.
This is soooooo funny. Thanks for being so accurate and funny.
I was too busy looking at my old neighborhood in the background to listen to half the things they said.
i bought a brownstone in BED/Stuy instead...and they i can actually rehearse my band and no one complains...in fact when i DON'T rehearse people say...hey bro''where's the music''??lolol
@Felsinae New Yorkers are from New York. Park Slope parents are generally from Connecticut.
I agree... I was born and raised in the Slope. WTF Happened to it?!?!
Park Slopers never said these things or spoke this way. These are things the newcomers say. Most of these people moved here from other places.
Although I feel the hate from non park slopers, I loved growing up there. Not everyone is part of the co-op (i know kill me right?) and there is a great difference between the new rich parents who are living here versus the middle aged parents who are quick frankly just old....and jewish. The pink house was painted there because the man's wife died of breast cancer and he painted it pink in honor of her. It wasn't just for attention.

This is beyond accurate. (confirmed from a parkslope resident.)
LOL! that's not all we say but spot on! thx for a good chuckle
This is a great reminder any time I start to feel tempted to move to Park Slope. This might be the worst place in America.
And to think, 1978 was the beginning of this....
Anyone remember - "Something for Mothers" ?
Our little play groups, before they started incorporating...
Aw, the good old days.
God damn it I miss living there!
Ughh real New Yorkers are dying for these hipsters to leave and to quit infiltrating their city!!!
Well done! (slope resident)
Garfield and Park? That intersection doesn't exist!
Maybe accurate for Park Slope but NOT for the rest of Brooklyn
+GO GO Vloggin' Sure it is. Brooklyn blows.
it's only funny if you love in park slope, because u kno it's all so true. it's hilarious. i love living in park slope.
Thank. You. So. Much. this is my life
i grew up in park slope the "jumping on the neighbors" is so accurate! and i went to 321...but then i moved to cali lol.
Oh, people, please don't be offended - lighten up; this is hilarious!!!! I especially love the bit about the infamous boy's hat.
I'm not a parent but since I work with children, this is my world.
@thediazbrothers I noticed that, too. However, I do recognize the brownstone with the gas lights as being on Park Place, (2:42) so I think they already knew that.

That was hilarious!!!!!
Hey! Thats my stoop you're sitting on!
my nine year old just told me "it's not funny, it's sad." that i was laughing!
ok ... alternate side parking problem everywhere in NYC. You probably have a better shot in Park Slope than in other neighborhoods even though most people in Park Slope do not know Brooklyn at all.
The sense of entitlement of Park Slope residents is jaw dropping. Spoiled brats "my diamond shoes are too tight"
I live somewhat near park slope, and the people who live there act just like this! XD
I always wonder that too. But, if you think about it we find that more of a city. I guess its a New York thing.
I love that I hate that I love that.
The Great Quest...not eternal youth nor the Unified Field Theory...a lightweight and compact yet durable and easily collapsible stroller. That and enough sippy cups.
Amazing.
You forgot, "Who wants ice cream?" Oh wait, never mind.
Where's the G-Train reference?
I have fallen down the hill at 2:09 so many times.
I want to move back to Park Slope, just so I can be that guy that people cross the street to avoid again. XD
Only the recent interlopers. The natives are warm and friendly.
Love. It. (from a Mom who's oldest daughter, husband, & son live in P.S.) p.s. She's a Doula.
Haha you did? I totally forgot who told me that!
@chazzlazer
As a fellow park slope kid, I will elaborate by saying that it is overcrowded and smells terrible.
LMFAO I went to high school in parkslope...whats funny is normally the parents there dont take the kids for walks the nannies do lol
@tvjunkie25 - because there are NO hipsters in Park Slope, and Park Slope yuppies aren't hipsters, right? RIGHT!
the coop sucks, being a park slope kid i can totally confirm this
JOOOOOIIIIIINNNNN TTTTTHHHHHEEEE COOOOOPPPP!!!!
i saw that chair during my run to prospect park! bedbugs?
Also, completely missing the pont
Lol I don't quite understand why everybody hates that pink house. I pass by it all the time, and everybody says its not "Brooklyn Like" but what ever :-)
lol I was a 321 kid, then went right to m.s. 51 on 5th ave for middle school
The funniest part is this is all 110% true
This is my life.
so apt.
I could not like this any more than I do. Its impossible.
Oh, and you really SHOULD join the Co-op.
...who's been stalking my mom?
