    Man, I remember playing this when I was about 9 or 10, and having no f'n idea what I was doing. Part of the problem was not having the booklet with all of the proper penal codes, and this was long before game FAQs existed. 30 years later, I'd love a revival of this series. Something akin to LA Noire but maybe in a more contemporary setting.

    Got my copy from a k-mart bargain bin in 1997. I remember writing sierra because I couldn’t get to the crime scene at 1:03:18. Apparently you had to stop perfectly and get out of the car which took me forever to do.

    I booked Brian Forbes with 12025, (possession of a concealed weapon) that works as well, even though it would really require multiple codes, as he's not in control of his faculties, attacks a police officer, and has the concealed weapon. You can try to get him to take the breathalyzer too, but it will tell you his problems go beyond alcohol.

    • @HowDoUPlayGames
      @HowDoUPlayGames 4 года назад +1

      I too have always booked the crazy guy under 12025 because of the knife you find on him. I never thought to use 05150 because it's listed under "Vehicle Code" in the manual, which I assumed you only use for driving violations.

    • @straightpipediesel
      @straightpipediesel 2 года назад +2

      It makes sense if you have heard songs about "5150". It's a real reference to a mental health hold in the California Welfare and Institutions Code. I think the manual is intentionally vague on this point to see if people get the reference. Perhaps somebody liked Van Halen.

      It's not quite as dark as Open Season. In this game, the serial killer is a cross dressing psychopath based on Jeffrey Dahmer. Not only this, but a lot of his character is borrowed from The Silence of the Lambs, which came out only two years before the game in 1991. Not only this, but in the first scene of the game, you find the body of a pre pubescent boy perforated with 9mm slugs tossed in a dumpster. In my opinion, that's more disturbing than any of the satanical stuff that was in PQ3. Not that it's a bad game, just that it's not as gripping as Police Quest Open Season. In my opinion.

      Same here, the first two were just a bit more "fun" and had a better look. The more "photo semi-realistic" aspect here is nice, but was never a fan of the "point and click" interface of the Sierra Adventure games as opposed to typing the commands and this one just got a bit too "gritty" and a bit too involved in the administrative aspects of police work. You spend the first good chunk of the game doing paper work. Marie getting attacked was also a bit too dark of a slant on things.

I remember buying Life and Death, it came with a surgical mask and latex gloves, and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, the action game not the adventure game. I don't think when that game came out that the adventure game was made yet. We had a Vendex computer, man it was pretty neat growing up in those times. I remember when I had a 30mb hard drive, and just to install Mechwarrior 2 meant that I had to delete all my other games. (that was back in the DOS 6.22 days). Most of my 3.5" floppy disks still work, but just about all of the 5 1/4" disks are non-working.

      The car, including the interior looks just like a 1987-1993 Ford Mustang SSP. They were designed for the California Highway Patrol, from which Jim Walls retired from. That's a 2-door 4-seat car, but the back seat is useless. They were most commonly found in highway patrol/state police use who wanted a fast car and did mostly traffic enforcement. I don't think they would normally arrest and transport somebody in one, they'd have to call up another unit with a 4-door, e.g. Ford LTD Crown Vic or Chevy Caprice.

    • @straightpipediesel
      @straightpipediesel Год назад +1

      They don't exist today. In most states, the things that they hold up to your face and tell you to blow in are not admissible in court, they are only used as a preliminary screen. There, the only breath test admissible is through a gas chromatograph that's usually fixed, because it's large, sensitive and needs gas tanks for calibration. The older model of the most popular brand, Datamaster, looks similar to the one in the game.

    I know the game is supposed to be a bit of a simulation, But it lacks the fun of the first two games. It's not even technically accurate to put the sergeant officer on duty so soon after his wife is assaulted. Add the photographic work instead of artistic liberty's, doesn't stand up to the previous games.

      there was a way to screw that up, as I recall, my uncle did it, if you show her some stuff to early, you can't go forward. Was like that in other sierra games too, like in SQ2, if you didn't get the glass cutter to cut yourself out of the glass case, you were sol, you had to restore to an eariler save and get it.
