      some times hand sewing is better.

    • @laurigiepmans
      @laurigiepmans 6 лет назад

      You can do everything by hand, you just need needle and treath (dont know how to write that haha). It just takes longer but you can still do it 💪🏻 All the stuff she uses makes it easier, but you dont need them

    Use freezer paper for stencils. You draw your design, cut it out and then iron the paper down( sticky side on the right side of the fabric or else it will stick to your iron) then use fabric paint. When you peel off the paper it should have a crisper line than regular non stick stencils 😎

    I've said this before but I do NOT sew and have no plans to learn (I still haven't quite figured out why I enjoy watching you sew so much, lol). That being said, I am always AMAZED and entertained by your videos. This one turned out fabulous and so very similar to the dress from the movie. I hope you win the contest!

  • @astridgrabner2836

    This is very pretty! For stecilling on textiles it's always a good idea to use temporarily adhesive glue spray (or glue on stencils), it usually makes the result much cleaner.

  • @sewscoundrel5087
    @sewscoundrel5087 8 лет назад +18

    For stencils, use self-adhesive book cover. Draw the design onto it, then cut out with a knife, remove the back and attach the book cover onto the fabric. This way it doesn't move around and you get a crisp line on your design. :)

    • @laura987123
      @laura987123 8 лет назад +2

      You can also buy re-positional spray adhesive which you can spray on the back of any stencil you want.

    • @Boredchinchilla
      @Boredchinchilla 8 лет назад

      Sew Scoundrel I was thinking maybe make a stamp with either a rubber stamp kit (where you heat and mold the stamp material and can reuse it), or even make a potato stamp- carve the design into a potato and use it as a stamp.

    you could always use a dark purple to touch up where the paint smudged

  • @autumnhahn4730
    @autumnhahn4730 8 лет назад

    Gorgeous as usual!
    For stenciling, I'd use a stencil brush, which has a compact head that is usually round in shape and tap (not rub/drag) the paint on so it doesn't smudge.

    stencil before it's sewn together and use a stencil brush - it really helps! I do lots of tshirts. trace the pattern on to freezer paper, cut it out and iron on to fabric. That's the best way.

    I usually use a contrasting color contact paper, you can print a mirror image of what you want on the back and cut it out... no leakage at all, super easy to use, quite cheap and leaves no residue on the fabric

  • @TearsBehindSmiles
    @TearsBehindSmiles 8 лет назад

    When I need to paint on a stencil, I usually use freezer paper. You just draw or trace your design onto the matte side of the paper, cut it out with an x-acto, and then iron it into place on your garment with the shiny, waxed side down. The iron will melt the wax enough that it will adhere to the fabric so you get a nice clean edge when you stipple the paint on with a foam brush, but it peels off easily without leaving any residue. I use this method for making custom t-shirts all the time.

    I made a rapunzel costume a few years ago too! my dress was ok (not as lovely as yours!) but the piece de resistance was the wig, over 40 total hours of work went into it. It's just over 5 feet long, and about 6-8 inches in diameter. flowers braided all through it. the works. It's a little bit tangled (lol) now, but that first year it was seriously remarkable. everyone kept wanting to touch it :P

    April, this is such a fantastic idea and execution! The only bummer about any of it is (not your fault at all) that I am slow with uptake when it comes to sewing and I wish I understood better. Tangled is in my favorite animated movies list, so you get extra points for that!

  • @jyriggs

    I love your channel!
    I have been sewing since I was little and my mom made clothes out of all kinds of stuff.
    There were some things such as the sleeves that could have been done easier for you if you had sewn the hem on the sleeve, attached the lace, attached that part to the upper sleeve and then sown up the side in one seem, then attached it to the strap before attaching it all to the bodice. It makes the seems neater, and saves time and frustration.

    For stencils I take a small paintbrush and use the stencil as a guideline instead of dabbing with a sponge. It gives more control. Or you can also take a white colored pencil, fill in the stencil pattern you want on your fabric and then "free hand" paint on top of that. This method allows you to make slight changes to the stencil pattern as well (if you want certain things bigger, thinner, etc)

  • @cecilyplum845
    @cecilyplum845 8 лет назад

    For the stencils, you could try using a small amount of paint, ans do it two/ three times, waiting to dry between layers to get definition and fine detail which could be lost if a most delicate stencil material is used.

    there's stencil specific brushes that have stiffer bristles. also use less paint so it dries faster and won't smudge. don't lift the stencil so soon as that will cut down on chances of smudging also 😊

    For the stencil: first starch and iron the heck out of your fabric, then use a spray adhesive on your stencil every time you put it down. You don't want it to lift AT ALL. Then, the sponge applicator you used is perfect.

    My suggestion for stenciling- I find that it helps if you use a sticker type stencil, or you can use spray adhesive to the stencil. 'Dry brushing' will prevent the 'bleeding' effect so it's better to build your colour in layers. If you want to look farther into stenciling, I recommend "Stencil 101" by Ed Roth. Hope that helps you. Awesome turnout though! I love your work and am inspired by you! Keep it up!

  • @SeychellesLover
    @SeychellesLover 8 лет назад +1

    hi work with paint a lot. I would of cut the stencils out, also you need to wash it off every few times. it was smearing because you zigzagged across the dress, if you went from right to left it would of helped (although you were looking for over all Balance and it would been hard jot crowding them that way.

    Very well done!! It looks beautiful! I'll use that painting technique for some Disney ears I'm making, thanks for the tips! As far as stenciling goes, I'd just wash and dry the stencil between each application. It's a pain, I know, but the end results are well worth it in my opinion. :)
