Rome's Devil? Finally An Honest Video On Emperor Nero
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 авг 2024
- Everybody thinks of Nero as being the supposed 'monster of Rome', as the guy that literally burnt down most of Rome, fiddled as the fire was raging, and generally was only up to no good. Well, what if I put my Morpheus on and told you that all of this is a lie? That Nero never burnt down Rome, and didn't commit even half the evil deeds he is associated with. What if I told you that Nero is only a victim of history being rewritten by the winners - or the opposition in his case. Sure... Nero was far from a saint and would be seriously locked up right now, but my point is....: There is more to Nero than the evil we reduce him to. Let's take a closer look in today's episode.
Episode 4 of Rome's Greatest Emperors: Nero - The Monster of Rome
Notes:
As I already mentioned above... history is rewritten by the winners, and, in the case of Rome, it is entirely written by those that opposed the current (or previous) emperor. In the case of Nero - Suetonius, Tacitus and Cassius Dio were the ones responsible for most of the narrative we associate with him. Well... neither of the three writers was even alive while Nero reigned, and all of them had a serious agenda against the emperor, meaning that all of the sources on Nero... are not trustworthy.
That being said... no one can state, with absolute certainty, that Nero did not do what they accused him of. Ultimately this is one of history's most dire he said, she said scenarios, so... just keep this in mind as you continue down this rabbit hole and do your own research.
Get All My Artwork & Support The Channel:
I get a lot of questions about my artwork and where it’s from or rather who draws it. Well the answer is that I create it - I don’t draw it. I use AI to create the artwork, using specific prompts, specific style influences from 18th and 19th century artists, and I spend about 10 hours per video just on the artwork. Each video has roughly double the artwork of what you actually see in the video, so a lot of it is unused. The good news here though is that you can get all that artwork on my Patreon - the artwork I do use, and the artwork I don’t use. Plus, by subscribing to my Patreon you are making a major contribution to Briefed and helping me to keep this channel going, because this is my full time job and the survival of the channel and quality of the videos greatly depends on said support. In return for supporting, you get more than the artwork though - you also get exclusive videos and producer credit, as well as access to a producer group that gets to vote on thumbnails, gets behind the scenes etc.
If you choose to become a Patron - thank you. I do not take it for granted.

Footage:
As always, some Game of Thrones clips in there, a little bit of Nolan's third Batman (Dark Night Rises), and clips from Netflix' Roman Empire series - the season with Commodus, who was my Caligula stand in for the sake of this video. Oh, and the blonde guy in the beginning, that's Octavian from HBO's Rome.
Clips:
Alright, used a bunch in this one: The epic opening scene I used is from Britannia, the ooooooooh smoked that with Jamie Foxx, that's from Power. The long 'everything is extra' is from Peaky Blinders, the actor thing and other RDJ stuff is from Iron Man 1, 3 and Avengers 1. Then we have the mandatory Game of Thrones - that's Olenna saying you might not have enjoyed watching him die. The 'Who's Gonna Kill Me' is from vikings, and The King Is Dead, is from John Wick - I think John Wick 2 or 3. And the 'I'm gonna kill mom' and skirt scene is Klaus from 'Umbrella Academy'.

The fiddle was added in the modern retelling. The contemporary line was that Nero played the lyre as Rome burned.
This brotha needed a therapist. He dealt with grief horribly. Great story telling, I love this page.
I have always found history boring but every time I watch one of ur videos I cannot keep my eyes off the screen for a second your storytelling is impeccable:)
thanks 🥹 that's mission accomplished for me😊
We are all entitled to our own opinions but most of what we are taught about history in k-12 is sugarcoated or fiction.
Because it's usually told by smarmy British guys, going head over heels at just a hint of an opportunity to manipulate others.
Agreed bro, the editing, the story telling, the details thrown in, the little sprinkling of comedy, mixed with the dark and gruesome elements. This is my new favourite channel and i am actively binging this!!
@@SkarKinggtrue and false like I was thought medieval torture methods when I was 12 bruh 😢 deffonetly get why the sugarcoat stuff cuz that was traumatising
This channel will be big Big. This guy story telling and keep audiences intrigued in history is insane. Not even Hollywood is can beat that anymore.
aw man 🥹 thank you so much 🥹😊
Your storytelling once again is unmatched. Thank you for all of your hard work!
thank you for watching 🫡
Would definitely love a series on the women who move Rome bts! Livia Druscilla needs her own video.
I second that!
Your tone, cadence and overall vocal performance are excellent. We get the dark, deliberate, intense narration on Nero's supposed crimes, drop the bombshell that these are false, we're hooked.
Then you instantly switch it up, speak more naturally and pivot into a Kardashian joke 😂
thank you 🥹😊
I love:
Your channel
Your jokes
Your delivery
Your charisma( rizz on 1000 bro)
Your voice
annnnddd….
Your face
I see so many opportunities coming your way. Keep these coming, this is my new fav thing on the weekends.
thank you 🥹😊
I agree
I'm so glad youtube recommended me this channel. Your storytelling is absolutely gripping, by the end I had goosebumps and completely compelled. It won't be too long before your channel blows up.
Another banger! I always look forward to seeing your new uploads hit my suggested videos 😎
This channel is my best RUclips discovery of 2024. Hell yeah keep them coming sir!
100%
BRO THE CLIP EDITS 😭😭😭, LOVE the content!!!! keep it up! 😌😌
Your series on Roman figures is excellent, man. I'm not sure if you've ever heard of Mike Duncan, but he's a Roman historian and author, and I think even he would be impressed with your work. Looking forward to the next one already!
If you keep uploading I’ll keep watching!
You must have done a deep deep dive into history. Because I have never heard of any history this descriptive. BRAVO SIR!!!
Thank you for all your prior hard work. May you continue to bless the world with voices from the past.
Damn! Another epic one! Keep droppin' rhymes and you may have to put out an album. Can't wait to see what's up next.
Nice one. Next we need that Claudius video, or the mad emperor route to Commodus. Found your channel through Tiktok btw, good way to reach more audience 👍
You make history fun accent tops it off.
Found ur channel randomly while wanting to research more about Roman history, very entertaining
Great video as usual!!
I recently found your channel, and it immediately became one of my favorites. This is next level history telling that brings its subjects to life and makes each story alive and accessible. Well researched, with great editing and excellent storytelling that draws the viewer in with its breadth of knowledge and humor.
Just so well done. Thank you.
thank you Jeff 😊 really appreciate that, really, really do. and happy to have you on board 😊
I found this channel yesterday and I’m on my 9th video, your story telling is captivating, the humor is iconic, the way you lay out the story is almost like you are the emperor of narration you don’t force the story on the audience, you build the story brick by brick let the story and setting come to the listener with the detailed and entertaining explanations. You are one of my new favorite channels keep it up brother you’re great and I’m going to tell my friends about this channel. Absolutely phenomenal.
This! Much needed in the world. Thank you for making this. Pitch-perfect delivery, sprinkled with both humor and precisely appropriate clips in all the right places. Well done. I may be in love with your brain, sir. This is my first exposure to your work. Excited to see your other videos.
Love ur videos man 🙌 keep it up. Wait every week for these
I love your videos, I wait on these videos each week, much love ❤
The amount of work that went into this. This was great content.
Only just now after watching over half of the Romes greatest Emperors playlist did I notice that your channel has under 100K subs. I thought for sure that you had Millions of subs just because the quality of your videos is sooooo good. Love your stuff
I got so hype seeing the upload
Great job. Keep em coming ❤
Love your channel ❤️
I knew the facts that you related in this video already, but it was an enjoyable and entertaining refresher.
I love your videos bro ❤️ i absolutely would love to hear your take on british/irish lore and history ! You and lucy worsaw are like 😘 keeping history and lore alive !
Watching your videos are inspiring me to take classes on Greek mythology, I’ve always been interested in it and I might just do it thanks to you !
My Saturday is made. Thank you for another video!
yay 🥹 hope you enjoyed it 🫡
love your vids man! keep going please 🙏🏽
The dog chilling in the background-chef’s kiss. 💋
Ngl, your videos are always fresh in my feed like top 3 hrs ago uploaded. RUclips is working
Hope this channel blows up more.. would love some more norse stuff! There is sooo much more to my religion that i think people would find interesting.. keep up the good work brother.. skål!
Your interpretation of history fascinates me. And your presentation is terrific. Are you. the artist who created the paintings. They are really effective companions to your narrative.
I have caught up in the emperor series. 😫 Finding your channel all started with a casual Julius Caesar search, and it’s been my playlist all week. Thank you for all the work. Your output and quality of said output is so neat to witness!
I am a developer studying AI (for work purposes) and I’ve never been happy about the AI Art that has been spreading on social media. But, I am happy to see it used in this way- helping with story telling (not to mention the typography, after effects and smooth voice-). I think this is such a fresh way to use AI Art. You do a great job with invoking the emotion of the story telling with the outputs you choose.
PS- I do read your notes!
thank you for such a beautiful comment, and I agree with you about the worries I have in regards to AI, so I am happy to be considered someone that uses it in a good way.
and yay haha someone who reads my long description and notes haha
You rock! Thank you for the history lessons! Cute doggo too!
Another masterfully told story. I had actually believed what I learned about Nero and am glad that you taught his actual life. I can't imagine how it is for a person to know that their name is being disgraced in their death and they can't say anything nor do anything but watch in their deaths knowing lies are being said about them. And as always Rocky reference. Always awesome. Lol. I loved this video a lot, brother. Great job, yet again. Awesome storytelling, art, comedy, and even the freestyle rhymes. Lbvs. Salute to you yet again
thank you Michael 🥹 it's funny you mentioned that because I was thinking about it too - people just entirely change your life story after the fact and you can't do anything about it... that's messed up in many ways
Great story telling and art work 👍🏾
thanks Tony 😊🫡
I appreciate you always spitting the 🔥 bars and delivering the dope content bro. The artwork is incredible too!
thank you bro, and thank you for watching 🫡
Love watching your vids before i go to sleep. Like a funny bed time story for an adult, not cause your boring, but because they give me something to think of and dream about. Thank you
I love it. always wanted to be the last thing in a grown man's ear before bedtime 🥹
Please do a video on the women of Rome that moved things behind the scenes!! Agrippina’s story was so fascinating
Great channel brother! The way you perform your stories/history is different but, awesome. Your channel is underviewed. You deserve way more views and subscribers. I wish you the best
thank you 🥹
@@Briefed_Mythology you're welcome brother
Briefed killed it once again!... I knew my man will deliver!
Fantastic Job Mr.
🫡
Your narration is so good and I watch even episodes that I know already about them. Good job bro you are my number 1 history channel now.
I was wondering since you go in the path of roman emperors maybe you look at their enemies too and how they pictured themselves. most of the same era rulers (Sasanid, ...) of persians depict themselves as just and there are historical backings to them, but maybe it needs more digging and if you do it it would be great. Also there could be a long myth ( half reality) is there if you follow Shahnaeh( king of kings book) path.
You sir, are on a roll
Good timing, just a few days ago I talked about him with a friend
really good storytelling🔥 great video👍
thank you 😊🥹
I’ve been a silent viewer for a while now, but I’ve just gotta say, as a history nerd girl, your videos are the only ones I actively search for. You have such an encapsulating style of presenting, filled with crude and funny jokes that always have me giggling, and the incredible visuals that I can’t take my eyes off of. Genuinely, you’ve taught me so so much about Greek mythology, Roman history and just history in general. The first words that come to mind when I think of you are ‘criminally underrated.’ Really appreciate you channel, keep going my dude ❤️
This dude never disappoints! please do more Norse mythology 🙏
I'm planning to do beowulf soon. not necessarily norse but similar -ish
Love all your work this is my new favorite
thank you 🥹
Dude I love these videos. Where do you find these portraits?
Ai generated
Love how you got "JellyRole" the rapper in the video (the guy with the face tatts for those that don't know) 🙂
Thanks for another awesome/insightful video!😊👍
thanks for watching 😊
@@Briefed_Mythology you welcome and once again thank you for the video 😊
My new, favorite channel...with no competitors.
awww thanks Robert. that means a lot to me actually. thanks man.
@@Briefed_Mythology Our western culture is losing its educated story tellers, along with many other things. One could make the argument that you are, in your small way, resisting the unavoidable Spenglerian collapse that awaits us all...just around the corner.
I remember reading a book about Caligula where the author took apart many of the more outrages claims about him using time lines. Like him bullying his grandmother into killing herself.
Man to be able to see the truth in history would be something else. Great video, thank you!
I love your videos mate. I want to ask where you are from and/or if you speak several languages? Because your pronunciation of Roman/Italian names are very peculiar, especially your "French R" when you say "neRo" - Its very on point and probably historically very correct, but its very rare for an American(?)
fun way to teach serious history. And your AI artwork is brilliant!!!!!
thank you Martin 😊
Cersai for all her errors was right about one thing. When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. Sometimes you win & still die lol
I haven’t watch but I’m already happy with it. You bring joy to my life😅
These reference clips keep sending meee😂😂🤣🤣😭✋🏽
Slander and gossip is still a great way to ruin someone.
Your storytelling is fabulous in every way: the details you choose, the way you put them together, and of course, your voice plus the funny moments are added at just the right time, and so much more. I'm not a word smith at all. I generally choose old school wayne's world way of simply saying "We're not worthy," with the bow.
I think the women that ran things behind the scenes as well as women that openly ruled would be 2 great series ideas that you would do justice as you with everything you do.
thank you for such a beautiful comment 😊 made my day. and yes I am considering a series where I cover powerful women throughout history in general 😊
Best history in history. Great music too!
great story telling man
thank you 😊
This is the best youtube channel. The nerd in me that studied Latin for 4 years can’t handle all of this goodness
thank you 🥹
@@Briefed_Mythology No. Thank you!
30:55 this needs to be made into a movie fam. Hollywood struggling for ideas when Neros whole life descended into a literal thriller.
I agree. History and mythology offers a lot material in general. Don’t know why Hollywood always changes it
Awwwww yeah!!! I'm 4 hrs late seeing it but I still made it to the party!!! This is legit, one of my actual "look forward to every single damn Saturday" new channel that I absolutely adore!!! Thank you for all of your work, time, creative presentation and just being an all around interesting dude!! Appreciate ya big guy!❤❤❤
thank you bobbi 😊 always happy to see your comments under my videos
@@Briefed_Mythology yw so welcome guy!!! And I'm glad you feel that way bc I'm probably gonna start to feel like a case of herpes or some s**t like that..... always waiting for the next video so that I may escape my mundane and repetitive Saturdays....plus, u actually reply which I think is just hella awesome!! I truly hope to be there when u hit the big subscriber marks bc u damn sure deserve it and let's be real here, many more channels have done it with way less pazazz u have!!!! Ur a good looking guy with an adorable dog in the background who gives a very interesting spin on presenting the facts to otherwise glossed over in every history class in the United States...(I live in FLORI-DUUUUUH, so public schools aren't exactly top notch, hell, they don't even really prepare u for the real world after graduation so there's that!) But I digress.... finding u helped me thru a severe case of walking pneumonia when I thought it was just the flu and then right after that due to a SLE flare up bc the walking pneumonia shot out my already shit immune system and it was probably what helped me recover a bit quicker! IDK what it is about ur presentation but, ya got it in spades!! So plz, keep up the amazing work and I'll be here waiting like a creepy ass old lady or a herpes flare up!🤣🤣🤣🤣
will you make a video about marcus aurelius anytime soon?
keep up the great content bro
yup, actually Aurelius is coming very soon 🫡
You should do Niccolò Machiavelli next
If 13 000 people view these videos why is the likes so low, come on guys give the guy some support,I always can't wait for the next,I really want one in the Celtic gods like Lugh.
This Video is going to be a perfect addition to my reference material for my Assassin’s Creed fanfic AC: Empire that centers around Nero’s reign
happy to help 🫡
@@Briefed_Mythology Thanks again. And funnily enough I actually know a video about the same banquet in 68 AD that you mentioned in this video. It’s a video done by Tasting History with Max Miller and he makes a Roman Steak sauce thought to have been served there.
He has a lot of Roman recipes, and if you ever wanna try making the things the Romans ate, try watching a video of his.
Ubisoft: Doesn’t make a Roman Assassin’s Creed game.
Me: Fine. I’ll do it myself.
You’re so great with your words. Wow, I’m in awe.
thank you susie 🥹
@@Briefed_Mythology if you lived in NYC I’d ask you to go out for a drink with me.
Appreciate this video a lot 🔥 History should be written by both sides to understand the full picture
Ragnarssons next? I mean if we’re going between Greco-Roman Culture and Norse culture you’ve done all the gods for both but only the conquerors for one ☝️
i miss you, please upload.
Tomorrow 🫡
The 21 edit was worth it, accuracy be damned
agreed
Please do a future video on Claudius!
it's kind of high requested so I'll think about it
Agrippina: I wonder why does this weird kid want to be an artist
Meanwhile a dancer raising him
You're incredible at history very much. Enjoy your videos. That being said, I did feel like the "white wash" comment was unnecessary.

Yo what's up Breifed, would it be possible to make your next video about Lucifer/satan or archangel Micheal and the fallen angels
definitely planning a Lucifer video. Not that soon, but it is planned
Is there somewhere i can find the art to your videos?
We need videos about the worst popes as well. There were ones so twisted as well !
Please!
A tragic story - and yes, history is as always, written by the victors. Love the video.
Now we need stories of Remus and Romulus!!
okay but I NEED videos of the women of rome especially Messalina (i need that notorious 24hr competition to be told with Briefed humor lol 😂)
Could you do one on Liu Bang
