  • Why is it that with more strategies, therapies and information than ever guiding us to find our purpose, fewer than one in four¹ of us ever do? Could it be that we have simply been looking in the wrong place? In her TEDxWilmington talk, Janet Hogan, shares her revolutionary process for uncovering what your true self really wants and the pathway to living a more meaningful life. Janet Hogan lived by the mantra that hard work equals success.
After graduating with a BA in Communications, she went on to become a punk rock model, Dolly magazine cover girl, movie actress, soap star, restaurant owner, radio DJ, and Australia’s youngest-ever advertising writer to win a Lion at Cannes.
All by the age of 22.
A self-confessed human-doing-on-steroids, she then went on to co-found her own ad agency, Oddfellows, where she quickly developed a take-no-prisoner approach to creating stand-out campaigns. Just one example, a billboard campaign featuring an attractive woman walking a naked man around on a leash not only made headlines Down Under, it saw the product, Voodoo Pantihose, become the country’s number one hosiery brand. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Before you discover what you are running to, find out what you’re running from. Profoundly said and so important for all of us who seek to live meaningful lives. Your triangle of purpose is genius! And I love that your Mother finally picked up the paintbrush 🖌️ What beautiful art 🖼️ she’s creating! I’m glad you are out there sharing your light! ❤

White pantsuit is expertly perfect and hair style is flawless. HOWEVER, the process for uncovering ones true self is sad? The two examples of almost dangerously dying is disturbing. And being almost strangled is a bizarre behavior, which I encourage everyone "not" to do. With all the chaos of day-to-day survival most people just have to work to pay bills. Even with the most modest lifestyles, like tiny homes, and RV living few people have the resources to do what they please. Interesting enough and maybe like a few more, we love to create, paint, and draw but making a good living from it is very challenging, so most sideline it as a hobby. Your message is ludicrous, but your appearance is spot on.

I think Janet's message speaks of inherent possibility and hope, and it inspires me. I'm sorry that you are able only to see through a negative lense alone and I pray that you are able to discover the peace and love in your heart. It takes great courage and humility to speak of one's life in this way.
      Kudos to Janet.

I agree. The pantsuit is great. But, respectfully, I can't relate to your take on this talk. The point I took away is that what we focus on often comes from perspectives that don't serve us. When we can take an honest look at our lives, we can shift those perspectives and recreate our lives in a positive lens that serves us. Music is a hobby for me and enriches my life. I'm happy that I get energy from what I do for a living as well as from my creative activities. Frankly, I'm happy that music isn't my profession because I can enjoy it when I feel moved to do so rather than having to make music when I would rather do something else.

I imagine since this was at a retreat and there are so many experiences that are not what we are used to, it was about trust and being open to new experiences. I am not into being choked but I find this fascinating and so well delivered!

As someone who was at the same retreat as Janet and experiencing the chocking exercise, I can vouch for the fact that it is eye opening and extremely introspective. In the moments of feeling your consciousness go, you have a choice. You can either blank out or go to a place of inner calmness. I stepped into LOVE and just looked the burly man in the eyes sending him all the love in the world. I realized then that my purpose in life was to teach others forgiveness because forgiveness is Freedom.
I love Janet’s speech as she inspires all of us to love a life of purpose where the fulfillment comes from understanding self and contributing to the betterment of others.
