As someone who shoots the shockwave primarily with the bead in this configuration everything he’s saying is absolutely true. From scrunching the gun in when aiming, to “floating” the gun after experiencing recoil, and so on. I can’t stress just how valuable the extra height of an optic is when it comes to effectively executing DCon’s techniques. Is it 100% necessary? No. But does it make a difference? Absolutely.
Looking "over" the gun can be very effective if you practice this. Its a lot like instinctive archery. You look over the arrow since you anchor the arrow at the corner of your mouth. The target floats significantly above the arrow and a significant distance from any reference point on the bow, but you can "feel" where the arrow will go out to 20-yards dead-on with enough practice.
This is how I bird hunt, and I’m pretty sure most other people do too. Looking over the barrel and estimating the point of aim. Works pretty well on moving targets…
Great video on using the Shockwave with just the bead. I agree that low recoil 00 or #4 buckshot is more usable and allows for quicker follow-up shots than standard velocity ammo. I have moved to a SeeAll Tritium night sight on a UTG quick detach mount instead of using a red dot or the factory brass bead. The SeeAll sight uses no batteries and there are no electronics to fail and provides the same benefits as a red dot with less failure points. I find using this configuration and standard 2 3/4 slugs, a Shockwave can be used as a "large bore" pistol with extremely good accuracy.
I didn't know an optic was an option. I have a Shockwave 12ga with a Crimson Trace saddled green laser. I'm a bit blind, but I can see that green on anything it touches. I have it aimed at 100 yards for the Federal shorty slugs. If the dot illuminates it at 20 yards, 00 will certainly limp it
This is your best video yet. I had figure out with practice and ALL of your tips and trick to help me through this where to put the bid for me. I am doing exactly everything you said with my eyes and sight alinement but did not realized it until you explained it now. Thank you
Thank you Make sure to point at the belt buckle if you're using a bead. It not only ensures center mass, it my also bypass body armor. Personally, I run a pic rail mounted holosun
I put a laser on mine. It's mostly still point shooting and muscle memory; but you have the laser there as a second reference, seems to work pretty well and is fun. I normally wouldn't fiddle with lasers, but I just don't like shooting these near my face. My stiff hand just can't do it.
Good information is always Just this morning I was thinking it's been a long time since I've seen a video on this channel, nice to see you again 😂 I should really subscribe on patreon
I don't intend to cream the topic, however the shockwave was intended to be fired from the hip. It even says this in the manual that comes with the weapon.
The shockwave is based on the old birdshead 870s that were used by Marshals up through the 80s. They were fired in a number of ways- often floated in front of the shooter and using the bead sight. And all of your handguns are designed to be fired single handed per the legal definition of pistol/handgun. Technique evolves and greatly enhances the capability of many tools
I'm no gun expert by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe I'm way off track here , but I outfitted my Shockwave with a laser sight. Just saying.... they are readily available and kind of puts to bed the whole aiming issue. NO?????
Hello Rehett. Thank you again for your very poignant instruction and help to assist the Shockwave community. 2 things: What do you mean by dividing the bead? Could you provide a drawing / chart of the sight pictures you were describing. Like the beard!
Really the mark of a great instructor and open mind to work within people's constraints rather than to criticise or talk down. Looking to put a birdshead grip on an 18 inch I have to try out this concept. What is your experience with full length pic rail on top of the receiver with a dot at proper height? Any issues with the rail hitting your face under recoil?
I’ve never caught a rail in the face, but I still take the rear end to a grinder and round off the sharp edges. The benefits of a dot far outweigh that risk
Aridus Industries and Scalarworks both make direct optic mounts for Mossberg shotguns. They'll sit lower than a pic rail mounted optic, but that might actually be a good thing if you're trying to minimize height-over-bore issues.
Ive been watching your videos for a while. Ive also been carrying the enigma express. I have a question. When you carry deep concealment how tight is your belt? I deliver liquor in the inner city and dont want to flash anyone bringing cases into stores with no firearm stickers. I have my belt pretty tight but it really defeats the purpose of getting to the gun if need be. When im not working i can get to my 43x pretty quickly. Not as quick as you lol but im trying to find the sweet spot. I dont want to have to keep pulling up my pants any recommendations from you would be appreciated.
I am facing a new challenge as a left-handed shooter. I now have an ICD/pacemaker implanted on the L side of my chest. What are your thoughts for L shooters using a 12ga with birdshead grip and R ejectors? The focus is for defense purposes.
He will keep demonstrating concepts. Most of what he promotes is effective not because of classifications of guns, but because the overall size of the types of weapons he uses remain smaller and are easier to conceal. Don’t think it would cause him any problems either way. Though I doubt the ATF will ever be abolished since govt doesn’t care to relinquish power.
@@camoandplaidto add to this, he has demonstrated some of his concepts against pistol braced pistols and SBSs (atleast verbally) He has used suppressors on the channel I believe. If he thought an NFA option was best for him, I’m sure that’s what he would say or use.
I got the 20 guage before the Ss , how does the recoil compare to the mini shells ? My sighting solution is mounting a heatshield that gives 2/3 of a inch ,, and mount a big dot to the top of the heatshield ,,,Im still look for something for rear ...
For a semi auto shotty near the 1k mark what would you recommend? Mossberg 940 pro, beretta a300 ultima patrol? The 1301 is so expensive 💰😬 almost 2k with tax here in cali
Reliability suffers significantly short of the 1301 price tag. Some have had good luck with 940s. Many have not. The A300 patrol would be my second choice to the 1301
Hey Rhett, been a viewer for a good little while now, and I have a sort of... Experiment, to put forth. I know you're busy, and probably won't see this anyway, but here goes. I was curious as to if you could find some way to make stockless lever action rifles/shotguns more useable. I mean, you can certainly use a Mare's Leg, but just not as effectively as a stocked '92 carbine. That used to be the circumstance with the Shockwave, until you got your hands on it. I know things would have to be adapted, because it's a lever rather than a pump, but I wonder if a single point sling coming off the end of the chopped buttstock might be something to pursue in order to stabilize the platform while you're actuating the lever. Anyway, hope to hear from ya, if you do decide to pick this up, I can't wait to see what you come up with.
I’ve stayed away from lever guns because they are expensive and fragile. $1k for a gun in an expensive caliber that is prone to breakage isn’t a good idea to me
@@demonstratedconceptsllc4918 Could always get a cheap one in, say, 357/38 Spl. I know a lot of people with Rossi's they've had for decades now, so they should be plenty tough.
@@demonstratedconceptsllc4918 Well, perhaps pick up a Rossi R92 to lower cost. That particular action as well as Marlin 336's and Henry side gates are all very durable. I've never personally known anyone to have problems years after the fact. I'm not sure I agree they're fragile, otherwise nobody would carry them as guide guns in Alaska, or take their Grandpa's 70+ year old 30-30 (that still shoots like new) deer hunting.

It takes a lot of practice.. but I've gotten pretty good at it. A lot of dry fire with the laser helps. You just gotta get that muscle memory burned in.. I wouldn't put these in a serious roll anyway; not enough rounds.. and I have too many other better options to grab first

What do you think of the KUSA KHAOS K 12 ?
What about a flip up front sight at the typical height of an optic over the receiver?

Like the cheeking concept would like ro see a video applying this from prone, kneeling, and leaning out from behind cover. This is the way.

Hey Rhett, I’ve noticed that the optics on your cheek shotguns have slowly gotten higher over the past 4 years. What’s your current reccomendations?

The low recoil buck in 2 3/4 inch shells have very similar recoil to standard 20ga buck. The minis have less than any 20ga load I’ve shot
