Why do they always run the 400 down and call the Ford 300 six the best of all time, people its the same engine in internal engineering ! Minus 2 cylinders , the 400 has a 4 inch stroke and 4 inch bore ! The 300 has a 4 inch stroke and 4 inch bore ! Same , they share same exact pistons and rings,, bareings , lifters, carbies, starters , flywheels, etc, and in reality you want as much deck height as possible in a motor , the longer the rod the better, the 400 is just a tall deck Cleveland 302/351 . Grab a set of Australian 302 Cleveland 2V closed chamber heads bolt them on it and without changing anything you got 10.85 to 1 compression , bolt straight on , same port size as factory 400 intake ports , line rite up , if you want some more go , slap a 351c performance cam in, a set of US 4V Cleveland valves in the 302C heads , blend port the bowl to match the bigger valves , smooth out the port short turn raidus, set of Cleveland headers ( yes they fit ) , four barrel intake and 670 cfm Holley DP , HEI ignition , and you got a monster ! And dont do the " oh the Australian 302C heads are hard to get" its the day of the interbnets , email an Australian wrecker , most will have a set or two around , freight to US about $200 AU and heads in working order about $350 AU about $400 US dollars total at your door in US, easy power up for a 400, just slapping those 302 Cleveland heads on alone will get you 100 extra HP and they will bolt to a 400 with no other mods , same everything. Most Aussie wreckers will have a set of 302 Cleveland heads , just dont get 351c as they open chamber . Still good but not the best, you got to remember Australia produced 302c/351c from 1971 to 1983 in Falcons and 1986 in F100 to F350s in both 302 Clevland 4.9 Litre as ford Australia badged it, and 351 Cleveland 5.8 Litre , they were the only Ford V8s in that period , they were everywhere .
Bonjour j'ai le même a la maison mais je cherche une boite a vitesse qui ce monte dessus le 400ci??. Pourriez vous m'aider si possible. Merci a vous. Je kiff le bruit 🔥
Excellent engine for a truck.
What a great, under appreciated engine. great low end torque just off idle.
Agree 1,000 %, known today mostly as a malaise era, low po smog motor.
Tall deck Cleveland with good breathing!
Can you tell me what distributor you used

400 M ?
400 M does not exist. It is 400 (only)
400 modifieds do exist I have two of them and they are Big Blocks
@EricMarsh-ob5qh they never came out of a ford factory. You (or somebody)modifying them
Show us a picture of where you see the letter M on your 400, mine says 400 (6.6L) that's all @EricMarsh-ob5qh
A 351M is a 400 with a 351 Windsor crank👍
The 400 is NOT a big block..
Ford uesed engine families. Not big blocks or small blocks.
@@rossgirdeen3247 Except for the Small Blocks...
351 m , 400 , 460 , same trans bolt pattern .
Not a small block either,
@@peggyseefeldt2638 Not aalys the the 400 and 351M could also have the small block bell housing pattern
