Samples are treated a bit differently. The samples are detected by a program used to identify other songs. Even if the sample was made to sound nothing like the original, it will still be flagged. I did recognize the melody but didn't think of the sample so it should've been written in the credits as one. Imagine people singing your well known melody but not being able to refer to you in credits (with no royalties). I wish that was handled better because I enjoy the sample, but she could've used naughty girl, baby boy, green light. I thought the sample was an interpolation of Naughty Girl originally.

Kelis was mad beyonce used the sample because she felt like beyonce should have called her first and let her know so she started ranting online about it, But the thing is kelis doesn't own the song Pharrell does,so beyonce has to clear the song with him because kelis doesn't own the song.
