This is probably the Amanda Waller I like most. Waller represents that fear as well as the ruthless drive to control those they can and sabotage, exploit, or even get rid of those they cannot. On the other, I like when Waller can find common ground with heroes and acknowledge that, despite her own misgivings and the flaws heroes still have, there are in fact people out there who want to do good and help, whether they're super or not. It's why this Waller admired Bruce Wayne so much. Despite being surrounded by superpowered beings, like Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, etc., Batman stood equally among them, sometimes even greater, all through his wits, body, and will as she eloquently put it. That a man could muster these simple yet profound merits and rise to become one of the greatest heroes ever w/o the need for superhuman abilities, and despite all the darkness and horrors Batman has faced and vanquished he has always stood by his code and never crossed the line despite the temptation to do so, even in instances where it could have been justified. It's why Andrea Beaumont ultimately refused to pull the trigger... becuz she knew and understood the man she had loved a long time ago and refused to dishonor everything the Dark Knight stood for... and Amanda likewise understood that she was right. She'd played God with an innocent child out of a misplaced notion that she could create a new Batman becuz she couldn't accept the world without one. Terry's dad was murdered anyway, and tho the pain and trauma of losing him spurred him towards vengeance he himself came to understand he had to honor the man who had raised him by acting in the name of justice. So yes, Terry's fate led him to becoming Batman after all, but he still made the choice to become the new Batman. No one forced him to do it; Terry found a calling and honored the legacy he had unknowingly been born to as well as both of his fathers. Warren might not have been Terry's biological father (throo no fault of his or Mary's) but he was Terry's father in all the ways that mattered. I've no doubts that he would have been proud of Terry, blood relation or not
CCH Pounder brings the character to life in my opinion. Never understood why they didn’t get her to play Amanda Waller in the live action ‘Suicide Squad’. She has done many other live action roles such as ‘The Shield’, ‘NCIS New Orleans’, and ‘Warehouse 13’, along with her voice work.

Bruce actually found out sometime before this episode that Terry and Matt is his biological son and he definitely knows Waller had a hand in it but he decided to not reveal the fact as he feels is disrespectful to the memory of Warren Mcginnis who he feel is Terry's rightful father and for Terry to make his own choices as a man, not just his puppet

Batman Beyond and Terry McGinnis is one of the BEST series/characters to ever grace the screen and comics. 2:43 You gotta wonder Andrea exactly thoughts were here. Obviously not do it. But she got this far. She is right behind them then she stops. It makes you wonder what she thinking. “Am I really doing this? Why would I do this….to a *child* ? A happy child. A happy child like Bruce was….but that part of Bruce died along with his parents that night. No one should suffer like he did.”
This paying off the seeds that were planted all the way in Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker. For Bruce, yes. It could be argued that being Batman was a destiny and a curse that literally split Bruce away from a happy life after he proposed for one. For Terry, like he showed everyone, including the Joker, he's not Bruce. He's doing things his own way. He's Terry McGinnis. He's vengeance. He is the night. He...is...
I see a massive hole in the plan here: Bruce was a rich boy with an loyal agent butler but Timmy? He's the son of a nobody with no resources like those Bruce had. Him becoming batman was purely circumstantial to begin with, but if he tried to become new batman he would have becomed Roarshak at best
CCH Pounder will always be ‘Amanda Waller’ in my world. Never could figure out why they didn’t ask her to play the part in the live action ‘Suicide Squad’.
For sure. He was the best. Love the last words he and Bruce had in this episode: Bruce- "You're a stubborn piece of work, you know that?" Terry- (says it under his breath with a slight smile) "Just like my old man." Awesome ending. 🙂

I could be wrong but I don't think that's a viable option. He was either dead or done by then. There are other options, sure. But that messes up the story
@veloxdrake1025 the actual reason he wasn’t there was because of the embargo which prevented too many versions of a character to show up. Deathstroke was in the Teen Titans series so JL/JLU couldn’t use him.
@@azuresaiyan9005 well again, speaking time wise Deathstroke was already in his 50s when Bruce was 30-ish and by this point Bruce was a 90 year old corpse so call him...
Even if Waller didn’t override warrens dna the result would still be the same. Terry was destined to be the new Batman when he met Bruce Wayne and got taken under his wing. Waller was also forgetting another important aspect of Batman. The 💵💵💰💰 part. Batman was a billionaire who could afford the equipmwnt needed for his war on crime. Terry didn’t. And he still wouldn’t if he was left an orphan.
It seemed that, logically speaking, the next step of Waller's plan would be to bankroll Terry to complete her Batman replication. Except Masked Phantasm abandoning the prior step of the plan out of sheer disgust caused that step to never be reached, so Waller's monetary aspect of the plan never came to fruition. Ironically, the original Batman would fulfill that part way later anyways.
Even if she did bankroll, Terry, there’s no guarantee Terry would take up the mantle of Batman. Consider the years of training studying and all the travels Bruce went through before he finally became Batman. Would Terry honestly go through all of that?
Waller: When you're making a Batman, genetics is only part of the story. The rest is tragedy. So, how about the vast financial resources needed for all of his stuff? That was pretty important too.
Terry didn't have Bruce's intelligence is true. The Batman Beyond tv show never showed us Terry as a detective the same way Bruce was able to figure out which bad guy committed the crime, and predict what the bad guy's next move was, and come up with a plan for how to stop the bad guy before the next crime. Terry only reacted to an alarm after the crime happened like any average Police do.
0:32: Sounding like Two-Face there. 0:52: Basically "Rebirth: Parts I and II", set in what may be the DCAU's 2019. I swear, 1:22-1:32 was actually censored/removed in certain regions where the show premiered. In hindsight, Terry's younger brother Matt should also be a factor during the Project. Heck, in the alternate universe Batman Beyond 2.0 comics, he becomes Robin Beyond. Oh, yeah, and this ep oozes "NANOMACHINES, SON!!!" in its concept. 2:11: As said by one Simon Trent: "So it wasn't all for nothing..." Quite a serendipitous mistake, hiring Andrea Beaumont/the Phantasm, the woman who once loved the man who would become the Bat. By the way, her look here resembles the one used in the short-lived Batman Adventures 2003 tie-in comics. 2:52 seems relevant, due to Multiverse Theory in Watsonian terms, and certain fans' and writers' perceptions in Doylist terms. 3:09: Can't help it, for Terry's father Warren was a good man. (Funnily enough, the father of Derek Powers/Blight, the one who ordered the hit on Mr. McGinnis, is also named Warren, AND he was actually married to Andrea Beaumont's mother Victoria, who changed her identity, became a Red Hood, and thus birthed Derek... at least, according to cut short plans for Batman Adventures 2003 by Ty Templeton). 3:19: Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate might feel that. 3:21-3:53: I really miss this in current family cartoons like The Owl House and Steven Universe, the necessary talk about the Abrahamic God and the faiths surrounding Him. Makes for some positive religious pundits while making for some "character substance" to any fictional setting, for lack of a better term or two. 4:27 sounds like a Spider-Man moral, but it sure neatly fits DC Animated works like the DCAU, Teen Titans/The Batman 2004 (am of the opinion that they're set in the same universe), and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Anyways, as an aside, I wonder if X-Men '97 borrowed certain plot threads from this and the other last four Season 2 eps of JLU (in short, "Question Authority" to "Divided We Fall"). Really, Bastion's origins actually being based on the preceding X-Men: The Animated Series' Season 4 two-parter "One Man's Worth" brings forth a similar vibe in terms of mind blowing retcons and rewatch bonuses.
You have to feel sorry for Bruce Wayne aka Batman and Terry McGinnis, both lost family and wound up being the heroes that made them who they are. Never resorting to killing foes, but protecting the people who either trusted them or not. Regardless, being a hero isn't about fame or fortune, it's about risking life and limb to save the citizens of whatever city they live in. It's like Peter Parker's late Uncle Ben said, with great power comes great responsibility.
What i wouldnt give to have a new Arkham Beyond game, where you start as an older Bruce Wayne before he retires and then taking over as Terry with the new suit, new city and new enemies.
Always thought this explanation was stupid because the whole point of Batman needing a successor was because he nearly broke his “one rule” due to old age and that scared the Bat. You’re telling me all the cards lined up THAT perfectly???
I’d like to pretend this revelation didn’t happen. I’m not a fan of the whole character being thrusted into something more due to essentially being part of a dynasty,
I’d say a better version of events would be if Batman and Wonder Woman had a kid together and that kid trained Terry and Terry would be the biological son of warren
Forget about making Batman movie’s with Bruce Wayne. Let’s get a Batman Beyond. I can picture Michael Keaton being a grumpy old man with a giant guard dog
It's not about Batman's moral principles. It's about the fact that no child deserves to lose their parents because of a criminal with a gun. There is no excuse or circumstance that justifies such an action. Andrea did not want to mark Terry with the same tragedy. The tragedy that prevented Bruce from being happy and having a family.
Yeah, but they had superpowers. If you think of it, heroes like Superman or Martian Manhunter had it easy against villains like Lex Luthor and Brainiac. Batman faced aliens, assasins, metahumans and even demons with nothing else but his intellect and tools. That's what made him so impressive. You're right about the billions of dollars, though.
This episode isn´t canon. It was an attempt to unite both series. And in the comic books was the same. Batman Beyond was only intended to be a cartoon hit, not a comic series and I like it that way because it makes simple to enjoy the character.
Believe what you will, but Justice league unlimited was made by many of the same people as Batman Beyond. It’s just as canon to the dcau as any btas episode.
@@brunodelacruz06 in *this episode*, nightwing's suit in shown in the batcave, who appeared in the new batman adventures, a direct continuation of batman the animated series. all three cartoons had bruce timm credited as creator and/or developers. it's canon bruno. I understand why Amanda did that. Justice League was a superhuman crime fighting organisation led by…well a human. All of them were superhuman with super abilities. Batman proved that human can also do it. Human has to do it. Human has to bind the League as a leader because if there was no human leader who will stop superhumans to think as a superhuman. Thus Batman creating Agamemnon Contingency Plan for every justice league member.

2:11: As said by one Simon Trent: "So it wasn't all for nothing..."
Quite a serendipitous mistake, hiring Andrea Beaumont/the Phantasm, the woman who once loved the man who would become the Bat.
Terry McGinnis aka BATMAN BEYOND IS 8 of Clubs ♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣Happy Birthday to BATMAN BEYOND OF JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND Blessings and HUGS! 👑💜
1:30 Not remotely what I meant. LOL.
It's like Peter Parker's late Uncle Ben said, with great power comes great responsibility.
batman has killed before
Terry really look like Bruce with the chin, hair and eyes
Amanda Waller & Bruce “Batman” Wayne are awesome.
Amanda your definitely right about that out of all DC heroes none of them were equal to batman
What i wouldnt give to have a new Arkham Beyond game, where you start as an older Bruce Wayne before he retires and then taking over as Terry with the new suit, new city and new enemies.
Sometimes, I suspect there is more to the story. Terry bears a resemblance to Wonder Woman. Perhaps Waller did the same with Ms McGuinness' DNA.
Waller said it herself, that only the paternal DNA was altered, thus the resulting child was the genetic son of Mary McGuinness and Bruce Wayne
Terry resembles a young Bruce Wayne
Would have loved the idea that Terry was Bruce and Wonder Woman's son! Nice pitch. 😊
Always thought this explanation was stupid because the whole point of Batman needing a successor was because he nearly broke his “one rule” due to old age and that scared the Bat. You’re telling me all the cards lined up THAT perfectly???
Great Episode.
Wouldn't this also mean Terry's brother is also part Bruce
Yes
The elderly Andrea Beaumont couldn't do it, and she was right to say that Batman would never resort to murder
Take care of the people who love you. Or don’t. It’s your choice.
Love that. 🙂
0:02 - 1:56 That is truly incredible 😮😢
After watching this…only song comes to mind. “Am I blue?”
I’d like to pretend this revelation didn’t happen. I’m not a fan of the whole character being thrusted into something more due to essentially being part of a dynasty,
It was already foreshadowed in the series. This makes a good conclusion.
Didn’t you pay attention they actually subverted that
@@ShoppingBored don't twist it to yoyr tsstes.
@@androognoix1685 how was it subverted? Do you mean how Terry’s Dad wound up murdered anyway and he met Bruce regardless?
Well it must of always been planned notice Terry McGinnis has black hair and neither one of his parents does
The End of an Era.
For years, Batman Beyond never really had a proper closure. I'm glad that they decided to tie up loose ends for the season finale of JLU.
idk why i cried when amanda says “you’re not Bruce’s clone, you’re his SON” 😢
2:12 Even in the future everything is remakes!
Even though Justice League Unlimited got renewed for a 3rd season, Bruce Timm considers this episode the last episode of the DC Animated Universe.
Great episode
I’d say a better version of events would be if Batman and Wonder Woman had a kid together and that kid trained Terry and Terry would be the biological son of warren
not at all better
That makes it worst 💀
Always wondered is Terry Damien's half brother?
Yes, and Matt McGinnis is too
A good question would be what’s Damian up to??
Yes
This episode is legendary
The Phantasm herself was there too?! :D I guess Amanda didn't know she loved Bruce Wayne, so naturally didn't want to hurt his technical son.
I miss THEM DAYS❤
Will Frieddle returns in Crisis of Infinite Earths.
this is Why Terry mcginnis will always be better then damian wayne, batman beyond was soo good
I think in the comics (probably not the canon timeline), Terry was Damian’s Robin.
1:28-1:31 💀💀💀💯 classic
Amanda right T I also never seen anyone else who's cares deeply for their fellow man besides bruce except maybe you
Cool origin story ever
Forget about making Batman movie’s with Bruce Wayne. Let’s get a Batman Beyond. I can picture Michael Keaton being a grumpy old man with a giant guard dog
It's not about Batman's moral principles.
It's about the fact that no child deserves to lose their parents because of a criminal with a gun. There is no excuse or circumstance that justifies such an action.
Andrea did not want to mark Terry with the same tragedy.
The tragedy that prevented Bruce from being happy and having a family.
Amanda Waller took a page out of "The Boys of Brazil"
Good stuff
Originally it was catwoman who rewrote terrys genes, and thats why if you watch batman beyond terrys fighting style is more catwoman esque
Very rewarding to wait this long to reuse a character
1:22 “Left it all over town” 🤫
"You do have his heart though" show forgets bruce hung up the mantle because of his severe and highly weakened heart. 😅
I didn’t get the “not remotely what I meant as a kid.” Lol
Beautiful
When I saw the series Terry McGinnis is exactly like Bruce Wayne almost similar but different
This great and all...but when are we going to get some contemporary Batman Beyond media DC?
'With nothing but his wits, body and will'
And billions of dollars.
And also
None of the other superheroes use their wits, body and will?
Yeah, but they had superpowers. If you think of it, heroes like Superman or Martian Manhunter had it easy against villains like Lex Luthor and Brainiac. Batman faced aliens, assasins, metahumans and even demons with nothing else but his intellect and tools. That's what made him so impressive.
You're right about the billions of dollars, though.
Terry half Bruce Wayne and half Batman genetics
Had more than just Cadmus connections.
Was able to hire Andrea Beaumont.
Great scene
Ironically Batman Beyond is the only, one and only successful product of Project Cadmus.
Amanda Waller always has a backup plan.
Bro just told him he's stupider
This episode isn´t canon. It was an attempt to unite both series. And in the comic books was the same. Batman Beyond was only intended to be a cartoon hit, not a comic series and I like it that way because it makes simple to enjoy the character.
Believe what you will, but Justice league unlimited was made by many of the same people as Batman Beyond. It’s just as canon to the dcau as any btas episode.
@@unny8877 Jajajajaa, you're so weak
@@brunodelacruz06 in *this episode*, nightwing's suit in shown in the batcave, who appeared in the new batman adventures, a direct continuation of batman the animated series. all three cartoons had bruce timm credited as creator and/or developers.
it's canon bruno. You can dislike it, but you can't say it's not canon.
The batman beyond comics aren't canon though, that much is true.
Everybody was actually okay with this
Which was crazy 😂
What episode
Not remotely what I meant. Luv this dialogue.
3:01 Youre assassin was Barbra ????!!
She looks like Barbara from Beyond but that's actually Andrea Beaumont; she was in Mask of the Phantasm from during the original animated series run.
@@Richie_Godsil ohhhh
I understand why Amanda did that. Justice League was a superhuman crime fighting organisation led by…well a human. All of them were superhuman with super abilities. Batman proved that human can also do it. Human has to do it. Human has to bind the League as a leader because if there was no human leader who will stop superhumans to think as a superhuman. Thus Batman creating Agamemnon Contingency Plan for every justice league member.
Dc💙
I'm no scientist. But aren't ALL of Batman skills set have nothing to do with his DNA.
Wow Waller, even when you're right you're still managed to be wrong.😅
The Golden Hawaiian Swordsman Dragon remembers watching this as a kid! The ending hits A LOT HARDER long after the legendary Kevin Conroy's death!
When she cloned superman, it didn't work well. So she went for batman instead.
