I remember old Mandrake Linux. One of the first Linux distros I ever used.

Mandriva Linux was my first Linux Distro in 2008, then I tried Mageia and that is what led me to about 7 years of Distro hopping, the good old days.

Mageia was what got me away from windows. It deserves more attention than it gets.

Do people require Mageia if there's a similar Openmandriva? Is there any substantial difference between those two? And what will be the key point of Mageia making it feel different or answer the question "why Mageia if I have Openmandriva?"... Is it targetting the OpenSUSE Leap niche?

The official stance got Mageia is that there is no official pronunciation. Personally I proniunce the g more like a 'z' sound, such as when you say "Asia".
But then again, i usually skip it all together, because the beta version is called CAULDRON and that sounds so much cooler in my opinion 😎

i think this distro was famous earlier but now they have very limited userbase.

The big downside of Mageia is that it takes as long as Windows to install! About 3 or 4 times slower than Linux Mint, for example. It used to be a top 3 distro a number of years ago, so it will be interesting to see how it performs as a secondary laptop distro. I stopped using it at Mageia 4, so I want to try it again.

I hope dj ware comes out with some benchmarks on this. Seems to work well so far. Has anyone tried using gcc, python, or java on this distro?

Mageia is pronounced "mag-i'-ah". It's the ancient Greek noun for magic.

On Linux mint installer you can’t choose drive to install to if you want to use guided install you have to use custom install option as it selects the first drive on the computer otherwise

Is it possible to set up Windows 11 to boot into a Linux distribution off of a second hard drive? Could you do a video on how to set it up?

Put a FORK in your distro?
BTW maybe a tie dyed sheet for your backdrop?😉

That would be hippy retro....not sure I have room for another backdrop...but maybe!

Are they people from Mandriva? Or is it completely unrelated to Mandriva? I remember Mandriva was one of the best in 2008 or so.

The pronunciation is always a hot mess in the foss world, at this point we should just have the devs put IPA of the project name on the main site😂😂

7:00 indeterminism - good in wavefunctions and theology, in software not so much.
I've always pronounced "mageia" as "ma-guy-ah"

Mageia is easily the best of the Mandrake/Mandriva lineage and by far the most faithful to its ancestors.
OpenMandriva, while closest in name, doesn't feel much like its predecessor; with its focus as an installable live disc, it even ditches Mandriva's traditional installer for Calamares. OpenMandriva just seems to have lost its magic.
Rosa... well I don't know what the hell to think of that. They worked with Mandriva for their last few releases. Rosa's current desktop line are live discs with Red Hat's Anaconda installer (wtf?!?). Being Russian, unless you actually know Russian, you're probably better off staying clear of this one. Their English documentation, support and forums and very poor to nonexistent. Honestly, with what Russia is doing with Ukraine, that alone is enough to make me want to boycott anything that comes out of Russia--Rosa Linux included.

I can’t use this distrio since its name is an extremely offensive word in my native tongue. My family gonna kill me if they saw it

Wow! Fortunately there are alternatives...now, if Linux Mint is offensive...just switch to Windows LOL
