I recently picked up my P39. So far I am very pleased with this watch. It feels very high quality and has a modern sharp feel to it that I appreciate. I was slightly concerned about the size of the clasp but on my 17 cm wrist the clasp is center nicely and does not feel too large. My watch runs at around +1 sec per day which is very impressive. For this price you'll be hard pressed to find a better diver.
I popped into my AD a few days after launch to enquire about the P39 and they had one in stock to show people the real thing before selling it. I looked at it and was pretty stunned how different it was from the LHD that I've had for some years. It's so much lighter than the 42. I did notice the long clasp but felt it should be OK (the LHD has quite a long clasp as well) so I registered my interest. A couple of weeks later I had the call so went back and picked it up. Some reviewers have commented negatively on the sunburst dial saying a dive watch should have a matt dial but the sunburst finish is very subtle and in most lighting conditions it look a deep black tone. The bezel has a little more pronounced sunburst effect but works great. The lume is brilliant and I think it's super readable. I had mine sized so the clasp was in the middle (with links removed from either side like all my watch bracelets) and have no issues with it. In summary I have no regrets purchasing the watch. If there was a slight negative it does take some wrist time away from my LHD but it's different enough from its larger sibling I can't bring myself to selling my beloved super comfortable LHD. If anyone has reservations about the sunburst parts or the clasp all I would suggest is going to see one if you can. I do understand that this watch is not for everyone.
It might be worth mentioning, that scratches on Titanium Grade II are much less notable as on Titanium Grade V. Plus scratches on Titanium Grade II on the Pelagos can easily be hidden by the blue side of a conventional eraser.
I think this will be the first Tudor in my collection. I really hope they release this in the matte blue of the larger pelagos, maybe even leaving off the sunburst finish, that would be my perfect watch!
I love my blue Pelagos 42 that I bought nigh on 3 years ago. I admire it every time I wear it and I do not pamper it either, scratches, whatever, it is a tool watch after all. I even sleep with it on from time to time, the lume is nice to look at. Black bay is for the masses, Pelagos 42 - less so.
I’m loving this watch and with the T fit clasp it fits perfectly, with the Titanium case & bracelet it doesn’t fall off your wrist to the side like a Rolex Sub, its a great timekeeper with great lume. The other bonus side is you are unlikely to be robbed (especially in UK) as its not a Rolex😉.

Just bought one today. Was having trouble deciding between a bb58 and the pelagos, but decided I wanted something that chose function over form. And something that appeared a little less flashy. I hope it lives up to all the great reviews.

Got mine recently and it is glued to my wrist ! I love it apart from 2 things : that fit clasp, especially for my small wrist and a bit of play with the bezel when you push on one side, say at 6, the other side at 12 lifts. Other than that, the rotation is solid !
Just received a Ginault Silent Service and, while it does not have the heritage of these others it is both hand finished and better in all ways than any of these others I’ve tried-my opinion of course!
Interestesting perspectives. Agree on both your perspectives on scratching and depth ratings. Neither are an issue - it's more about how the watch community perceives the watch and the lifestyle branding is divisive for some.
I understand that the 39mm will appeal & fit a lot better on those with a smaller wrist but for me the best Pelagos is the 42mm in blue. I can’t see many people who wear the 42mm buying it. Great review I did enjoy watching. 👍👏👏👏
Teddy, I was watching this and realized that we do not know at all what is your collection like. Would be awesome to make a video with your current collection and the 2, 3 pieces you like to wear the most. Take care !
Nothing against grade 2 titanium (I have a watch made if this) but a watch in this price range should be grade 5. Also, if the bezel is 40mm, then industry standard is to go with the widest width of either bezel or case for stated dimensions, so this should be called 40mm. Finally, if your wrist size is small, a clasp that long is going to look weird and uncomfortable anytime you rest your hand on anything, like a desk or on your own leg when sitting, and sometimes even when holding your hand up. I went through this with my Omega watches. I started with a 40mm Railmaster that has a long clasp, which for the previously mentioned reasons ruined the fit on my small 6.5 inch wrist. I eventually got rid of that watch and got the Seamaster 57 LE which has a compact clasp and have been happy ever since making the switch. I’m a fan of Tudor watches but I’ll give this one a hard pass. Great review as always. Nobody does it better.
As a person who wore a Speedy Schumacher 03 for 10+ years, this is super tempting. Honestly, the only thing I do not like about the watch is the Titanium. There is something to be said with a weight of a watch and when you are dealing with something as compact as this, the obvious Submariner from Rolex and the higher grade of Ti, I would say it is the only slight miss in the watch. There are so many grades of stainless to consider as well as various alloys thereof. Maybe it is me, but I like the feel of the weight of the watch I pick. That is not to take away from this watch nor anyone else's choice. When you think about having 2-3 watches in your collection, you really want to make sure it is something that is wearable as both a piece of art, a time piece, and to a lesser degree a subtle nuance to what you are like as a person. Absolutely beautiful time piece. Love the red. Would have liked to see a bit more game in the palladium, rhodium, stainless steel, chromium, cobalt and other alloys. I work in med-tech. Metal selection has a human factor element that is so important. Bring it over Tudor.
As someone who owns two Black Bay 58s in black and blue, I thought the P39 would be a "can't miss" based on the perfect case dimensions and specs; it went to the top of my short list. But when I tried it on in person, something about it didn't quite click. Couldn't identify what it was, maybe the double sunburst. It felt off though. Sterile. Bottom line: check it out in person and don't just make assumptions based on the specs.
It has no presence - a straight forward tool watch.. I got out from my AD with a BB59 gilt on my wrist for a $1k less than what they asked for the p39 after tax.
What I've been waiting for.. almost . 2 things I'm hoping for. 1) The blue version of this (sometimes next year 2023?) 2) When they release the blue, use the clasp from the BB Pro.. much smaller.. if they need the additional flip out dive extension, then try and make the clasp shorter. I'll take the blue version regardless WHEN it comes out.
I am waiting on one from my AD. My only concern is the clasp length. I haven't got hands on with one yet but hopefully that won't be an issue for my 6.3" wrist. The new 41mm Sub clasp is just too wide.
Teddy, thanks for no-bs content. Love your integrity, as well as this new Pelagos. For the moment I will wait until a blue version is released. Cheers!!
Hmmm when you have a Pelagos LHD..and you try a Pelagos 39..swapping ain’t gonna enter your thoughts..but if you don’t then it’s a great choice..Like almost all Tudors, great watches at good value
I was very excited about this watch. It hit everything I wanted from a diver, but then... no date. I own a BB36 and really like it, but the no date bugs me often when I look down and it's not there. It's a must now. Except on a dress watch which I wear rarely and care more about being slim with clean symmetrical esthetics than anything.
I own a Rolex REF16234 circa 2000….stainless on an oyster bracelet, white gold bezel, rhodium colored face…. I wanted to add a Tudor to my higher end collection and this review has surely helped me to also consider the Pelagos 39…. I also like the Black Bay GMT two tone so come purchase time I’ll have to make a decision. I also own several higher end Seikos, two Tissot PRX Powermatic 80s, a Raymond Weil Parsifal, and many higher end Citzens along with a slew of Casio Gshock and other….. Tudor seems like a nice (and more affordable than Rolex) addition to my collection. Thanks Teddy,
I do like Tudor but I saw this in person and it's quite a dull watch.. if it was my only expensive watch, I would rather get Omega, a Tudor FXD or many other watches... to be honest I also prefer the black bay 58... EDIT... several months later I am changing my mind hahaha. we watch people are mental. The more I look at this watch the more I love it. I prefer the square markers to match the hands, and the weight too... The shiny dullness I can get used to . It's not the most exciting look, but sometimes that is just "classic" and something that makes the watch a keeper (think Explorer, Speedmaster, Submariner etc)
@@eyeheartsushi2212 I just found it very boring. Not much soul. Just a generic watch that's brilliant on paper, but it had absolutely no spark for me... the feeling I get with Omegas, IWC, Rolex even... it just wasn't there when I tried it on. That subtle shimmer on the dial and bezel..its just very plain. I don't get it at all. At least the old Pelagos was interesting ANOTHER EDIT - i'm coming around to this watch. I think it could be a fantastic one watch for almost any occasion, hassle free, light, strong, stark looking... I prefer the contrasty look and the hour markers compared to BB58... much more modern and cohesive look
Thanks for measuring the clasp length! (46mm.) I spent an embarrassing amount of time on web searches the other day trying to figure that out. It's my one hangup about this watch, and the nearest Tudor AD is over an hour away. Didn't wanna make the trip just to find out whether or not the clasp would swallow my tiny wrist!
Everyone is making a big deal about the clasp but I don't see it as being much of an issue. True, the dive extension is very uncessary especially considering they already lowered the water resistance and removed the helium escape valve. The overall watch is so light though, that the large clasp helps balance it out.
I've had this watch for a week and love it. Some bezel back play but I'll wear it for a while longer and see if I can get that fixed. Looks way better in person imo.
@@KFen10 oh yeah a little to much back play at this price point imo. Once I'm out of the honeymoon phase I'll bring it in. No rush, the warranty is 5yrs 😊
Tudor has had a storied dive watch history going back to the snowflake days and the French navy. It's great that Tudor continues that tradition, and is now one of the most desirable Swiss watches on the market.
This definitely a great watch for smaller wrists. My wrist is right at 7.5", so my blue 42mm Pelagos works just fine, and, well, it's blue... Matte blue, which is a big thing for me.
If I had to guess why they went with a 21mm lug width, I’d say it’s because a taper to 18mm at the clasp isn’t enough going from 20mm. Or at least, that’s what some would say. But I agree with you, Teddy. I think a 21mm is a swing and a miss. Great video, Teddy. Thanks!
I actually think they made a different size so you can't put a bracelet/strap on from another model... the rubber strap comes with a buckle whereas I would have prefered a clasp like the black bay 54's rubber strap....
Just my opinion of course. Think I would rather have the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf. Seems to win all categories except power reserve. (not a big deal.. 30 seconds to set and go)
Aesthetically I prefer the BB58. Specifically the black variant with red triangle 🔺 and rose gold accents. I wouldn’t call it a pure tool watch. It wears much more elegant. If going pure tool watch I think I’d go for the full size big boy Pelagos in 42mm.
Recently picked up a Pelagos 39 and as part of the deal, l received a £200 gift voucher so l used the discount towards a Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Panda for £390. Walked out of my AD with 2 fantastic 39mm watches which fits perfect on my 6.25” wrist. Both are getting a ton of wear alongside my Submariner 124060 and Pelagos FXD.
Pelagos 39 has been on my short list for months while waiting for a call from Rolex that never came. I had all but removed the 39 from that short list because I was worried about the bezel and dial finish based on the close-up views and lighting of some of the review videos. Once I finally saw it in person today, it did not take me long to pull the trigger. The video reviews of this watch really put a microscope on the finish, in a way that it just does not come across to the naked eye. In person, the finish to the bezel and dial is like "eggshell" to use the terminology of latex interior paint. It's not glossy or even semi-glossy; just one step removed from matte. I think because the size is diminished, it has a more subtle wrist presence that Tudor offset by adding just a wee bit of sheen, while preserving a matte look.
I absolutely love it, everything about it, the only thing is I’d have to see the sunburst bezel insert in the metal as I’ve never seen one like that ever and I’m not sure, as with all things though watches definitely look different in your hand than any video or photos on the web, I do really really love the watch though, 100% my kind of watch, I hope to pull the trigger on one soon, thanks for the excellent video Teddy 👍🏻
This is an amazing watch, I think you nailed all the pros and cons. This can very well be my next watch. I purchased the BB Pro several months back and that's my daily wear. I wish Tudor would take the bezel on the Pelagos 39 and use it on the next gen BB58, obviously in stainless steel. Also use the crown and T-fit clasp from the BB Pro and price it in the low $4K range and you wouldn't be able to keep it in stock. Great video Teddy. 👍
Just got mine today. Wish it had no diver extension and smaller clasp (won’t use anyway like 99% of other owners) got the bb58 bronze with t-fit clasp and it’s a much better size and comfort. So I will probably wear it mostly on the provided rubber strap 😅.
I always said a smaller Pelagos would be my perfect watch, but two things massively annoyed me about this release. Firstly no date, like the original 42 Pelagos, which makes this little more than a BB58 in a different shell, and more, a Pelagos 'lite' Secondly, Tudor/Rolex need to stop messing with the lug widths, like how they've done with the new Explorer, these are supposed to be 'tool watches' and therefore utility rich. Stick to the standard 18/20mm lug widths, not 19/21mm. I think this watch would look 'amazing' on a green nato, but where are you going to find a decent quality 21mm nato strap??
Yet again also, so many people don’t understand WR for watches or just in general. The pressure created while in water isn’t just about depth! While moving through water, pressures can exceed depth. So a 50 metre WR watch, when being moved through the water can sometimes be subjected to pressures that exceed 50m. That is why a “swimable” watch needs to be at least 50m. If you took a 200m watch and used it at 200m it could potentially be useless- or go to those depths but don’t move it around. I actually think that iP ratings should be used instead. Pro dive watches are rated to much higher depths because a 1000m dive watch even at 300m depth could still be subjected to pressures that exceed the capability.
This watch is absolutely perfect to me the only thing I can actually think that would make this even more perfect is having a dat calendar but then again there would be barely any face difference from the the old one so I also get it
Really love the P39 but am also considering the BB54 oooor a Seamster 300 in polar or the neovintage 22545000. Besides others;) Great vid btw. Thanks and all the best
Good luck buying one. They are all on "allocation" with no projections of delivery. Received this email this week from my local AD: _"We currently do not have this timepiece available, nor do we have visibility on future allocations as it is a new timepiece from Tudor."_ It's been this situation literally since the day the watch was announced.
I guess it depends on the area , I was on the "list" , randomly went to the AD to see if they had one I could at least look at. They had one arrive that morning and said I could take it. I had no prior purchase history but had popped in a few times and talked watches.
@@Johnny641 I'm sure you're correct. It's quite a knowledgeable market here in the SF Bay Area, and we have a large customer base. No worries, I have my BB Blue ETA (which I'm wearing today, as it happens).
Great review, Teddy! I’m torn between this and BB58 blue… put the BB58 on the blue rubber that rubber B makes and it looks quite stellar while being a good office option with the bracelet
Great review (as usual)! First, I don't like the 21mm lug width but apparently Tudor wanted to keep things special. In the future I'd like to see some color variations on the dial and the bezel insert. Getting a rubber strap is a bonus (hey, you pay for it of course, lol). Hopefully, AD's will able to offer a decent discount (although I'm told Tudor is a tough nut to break). It's not like Breitling where I can easily get at least 15% off the MSRP. Anyway, good addition to the Pelagos family.
When I hear the descriptive words “for medium to large wrists” I shy away, I am definitely leaning towards “smaller to medium size wrists” I have a 7 inch wrist and love 38mm with a lug to lug of around 47mm
Recently tried it at my AD and immediately liked it. I think they black in black is a little boring though. Also, why do we even have diver extensions? Does anyone need them? Can't we just get rid of them?
Not the biggest fan of the snowflake hour hand, but it works so much better compared to the BB due to the square/rectangle indices of the Pelagos imho.
After few months of watching Tudor Pelagos reviews, I have finally bought one yesterday the 39 Pelagos. Damn watch I must say. I really love it BUT was upset. As a perfectionist, it bothers me every time I look my extra links and screw. Because the representative at the store adjusted the bracelet to my size, seemed aggressively took the link and damaged the screw and scratched the link, as if it was taken without care

Got mine recently and it is glued to my wrist ! I love it apart from 2 things : that fit clasp, especially for my small wrist and a bit of play with the bezel when you push on one side, say at 6, the other side at 12 lifts. Other than that, the rotation is solid !
Wtf that is unacceptable though
@@Sandevistan2020 it's really small but I can definitely feel it. A friend of mine tried it at an AD and it was the same with the exposed pelagos
Absolutely beautiful!!! A steel version and a shorter clasp would have been perfect for me.
I bought this watch a month ago, very striking dial, comfortable to wear. I wish it had a date.
Looks amazing on wrist. Definitely on my list of watches to own.
It is an incredible piece indeed, I have a 16.5 cm wrist and that is really good presence but still stealthy , excellente video thank you Teddy.
I am a watch estuthiast! I don’t know when but I will buy one!!! Thank you for the outstanding review! Like always you are the Man!
I'm all in with Tudor now. Sold my Rolex Submariner and replaced with a Pelagos 42 and a Black Bay Chrono reverse panda.
What I've been waiting for.. almost . 2 things I'm hoping for.
1) The blue version of this (sometimes next year 2023?)
2) When they release the blue, use the clasp from the BB Pro.. much smaller.. if they need the additional flip out dive extension, then try and make the clasp shorter.
I'll take the blue version regardless WHEN it comes out.
blu is the way to go for pelagos. nothing wrong with black, but it's too similar to 40mm sub imo. I say this owning a blu bb58 and a sub haha.
That’s most likely. But what about… white? I want Tudor to do something in white for those of us who can’t get a polar Explorer II.
@@WestCoastAce27 I want Tudor to do more red. Their BB heritage red bezel looks stunning and there aren't many red divers out there.
@@deejay1534 I’d buy that too. 👍
Bought the P39 a month ago and love it. All my other watches are jealous!
Ohhh I was waiting sooo long for Teddy to do a video on Pelagos 39😀😀
I am waiting on one from my AD. My only concern is the clasp length. I haven't got hands on with one yet but hopefully that won't be an issue for my 6.3" wrist. The new 41mm Sub clasp is just too wide.
This is the best feel watch you have to try it you won't regret it
Teddy, thanks for no-bs content. Love your integrity, as well as this new Pelagos. For the moment I will wait until a blue version is released. Cheers!!
Thanks for watching, Eduardo!
It's a great watch, I've tried one on. Really liked it, but for me, I'm waiting for the blue version to come out.
I just got this for $2700 used but in great condition. Wasn’t my first choice but couldn’t pass on the deal.
Working on a video that puts this side by side with the 58. Thanks for watching!
It definitely looks dull on video and pictures.
At least the old Pelagos was interesting
ANOTHER EDIT - i'm coming around to this watch. I think it could be a fantastic one watch for almost any occasion, hassle free, light, strong, stark looking... I prefer the contrasty look and the hour markers compared to BB58... much more modern and cohesive look
@@Valera_Scotland Appreciate the feedback.
Best review on the 39 I have seen. Great review on a great watch, I need one.
I really love Tudor. Since I got my Black Bay 41 with the upgraded movement I want more Tudor watches. Next for me will be the new Ranger, I guess:)
Thanks for sharing your personal ownership story, Alex. That certainly helps others looking to buy.
@@TeddyBaldassarreThis is not something I encounter at all. I have one and the bezel is very crisp in its movement. Worth getting looked at by Tudor.
Thanks!
It tapers to 16mm, same as the BB58 which has a 20mm lug width.
I actually think they made a different size so you can't put a bracelet/strap on from another model... the rubber strap comes with a buckle whereas I would have prefered a clasp like the black bay 54's rubber strap....
I have the 42mm black version, and I really likes the sunray bezel.I just wanted atool watch with a great bracelet.
Fantastic watch, like wearing it more than any of my Rolex’s.
I am waiting for Blue Pelagos 39.
Will be possilbe to come out next year?
Recently picked up a Pelagos 39 and as part of the deal, l received a £200 gift voucher so l used the discount towards a Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Panda for £390. Walked out of my AD with 2 fantastic 39mm watches which fits perfect on my 6.25” wrist.
Both are getting a ton of wear alongside my Submariner 124060 and Pelagos FXD.
Which AD was this?
What a fantastic video, it fully explained everything I needed to know, I’m definitely getting one, it’s perfect 👍🏻
Longines listens to their customers too. they made hydroconquest ceramic bezel 39mm too.
I have the a blue 42 , 39 is a bit small and light for my taste. But it is a real nice piece for smaller wrist for sure.
I wished it was slightly bigger 40 would have been spot on for me anyway worth a look
I own several vintage Tudor pieces, I love them but I just don't like the snowflake hands on the newer ones.
Teddy, thank you for the overview. Do you think the 39mm will ever be offered with a date ?? Thank you.
2 year wait list. You can’t get it unfortunately. Not in Canada anyway. Great review as always.
It’s a great watch I love the flat crystal and bracelet. It’s a bit small for me but other than that I’m impressed.
Firstly no date, like the original 42 Pelagos, which makes this little more than a BB58 in a different shell, and more, a Pelagos 'lite'
Secondly, Tudor/Rolex need to stop messing with the lug widths, like how they've done with the new Explorer, these are supposed to be 'tool watches' and therefore utility rich.
I just ordered one. The closest competitor to my taste is the upcoming Yema Superman Steel 39mm with in-house manufacture movement.
I just miss the date and the blue color. Excellent dimensions overall, except for the lug width.
Love my Pelagos 39. Perfect diver for a guy that doesn’t keep his diver watches
Stunning watch P39..I also own pre ceramic ..Rolex Sub really wear my sub ...says alot
IMHO, size is good, personally don't like sun burst on the bezel. LHD is still good for me. I like the cream color lume of LHD.
dunno if any told you about this but you really look like Tom Holland. Anyway, your content of watches is very good.
This watch in blue, with a date, would make a perfect daily driver🤗👌
Good luck buying one. They are all on "allocation" with no projections of delivery. Received this email this week from my local AD: _"We currently do not have this timepiece available, nor do we have visibility on future allocations as it is a new timepiece from Tudor."_ It's been this situation literally since the day the watch was announced.
I guess it depends on the area , I was on the "list" , randomly went to the AD to see if they had one I could at least look at. They had one arrive that morning and said I could take it.
I had no prior purchase history but had popped in a few times and talked watches.
My local AD said the wait list was around 12 months as they thought they would get 3 per month
@@Johnny641 I'm sure you're correct. It's quite a knowledgeable market here in the SF Bay Area, and we have a large customer base. No worries, I have my BB Blue ETA (which I'm wearing today, as it happens).
Great review. I did not notice the clasp size when I visited my AD; mine should arrive any day - looking fwd to rotation w my BB Pro.
Great review, Teddy!
I’m torn between this and BB58 blue… put the BB58 on the blue rubber that rubber B makes and it looks quite stellar while being a good office option with the bracelet
Have something coming out soon that might be helpful for this dilemma.
Yes mate, am getting one before Xmas, thanks for the video and positive review, no buyers remorse 😂
Love this watch, one I'm looking to acquire.
But when is the blue one coming?
When I hear the descriptive words “for medium to large wrists” I shy away, I am definitely leaning towards “smaller to medium size wrists” I have a 7 inch wrist and love 38mm with a lug to lug of around 47mm
Great review! I would love to own this watch!
