That story was actually... really engaging. Atari had to do this back in the day because the system just couldn't provide an immersive graphical experience, so they'd help your imagination fill in the gaps with cool cover art and creative story-telling. Here they did it particularly well: I actually have an urge to go and murder some Quotile to avenge the peaceful Yar. I especially love the electronic music, because back in the 70s and 80s we were sure that this is what music would sound like in the future. I kinda wish we'd been right on that one.
Atari 50 has a reimagined game, original, and comic. Wish they said that on the box. Swordquest games/comics as well and even a prototype or modernization for some.
Sound almost exactly like The Buggles - The Plastic Age (c 1980) @9:30. This makes sense considering the massive influence of Trevor Horn and that the game is starring a bug.
I remember beyond stoked when my parents finally got me Atari. was begging for a long time. graphics and audio were basic, but it rocked. I guess I was easily amused. arcade games were amazing. but playing at home was cool. saved quarters. and my parents told me some arcades were sketchy in the 80s.
This kinda have the basis of becoming a cool show like Transformers.

the box covers on all the games were awesome
...and it was hilarious how the great artwork bore *no resemblance* to the graphics in the games... :D
What was deficient was made up with your imagination
Never played the game, but my parents bought me this tape/book combo and it was great. Thanks for the nostalgic upload. =)

I can't say you're easily amused. I'm 19, never lived the heyday of the Atari, but I love Yars' Revenge. It's great fun, despite its simplicity.
"Look out now here comes a squirrel..."
It was one of the very first video games i played.
Da Da DA!
Love this. Remover it well from my childhood.
This is very cool!
Is this the actually history?
Just played the Game over here :
