  • 19 year old Jay Slater from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, UK has been missing since Monday morning of this week after leaving the NRG Festival on the island of Tenerife with two men. The two men allegedly have spoken to Spanish police before leaving Tenerife to return to the UK. Jay's phone last pinged in the Masca area, up in the mountains, about 30 miles north of where he was staying with his friends in Los Cristianos

I was in Malta in 2009 and got myself lost after I got off a bus (near Dingli Cliffs) and assumed I'd catch the bus from the bus stop opposite where I got off back. BUT by 2009, the buses only made one circuit, they didn't return the opposite way and I stood and watched the bus go by not realizing this was the only bus home. I had no map, no smartfones then, so walked via the cliffs to another town where I was told I could get a bus on a different circuit going back to Sliema. It was getting dark (my trip was in December) and it was down to helpful locals who were going to Sliema and realized I was in need of assistance. I must consider myself lucky to have got back safe.

Michelle, I am so obsessed with this case. Thank you for the comprehensive coverage. I have a favor to ask. I’m dying of colon cancer. They tell me I have a few months. When I was 15, there were a series of murders in my little city that rocked the state of Massachusetts and the country as a whole. It was 1979 when the body of Doreen Levesque’s body was found underneath the bleachers at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River, Massachusetts. This murder ushered in what came to be known as the “Satanic Panic.” The two murders that followed caused a panic the likes we had never seen before. There is a novel, Mortal Remains by Henry Scammell and a series on Epix called Fall River which chronicles the cases. One of the key players, Robin Murphy, was just released on parole. She’s admitted that she lied. She told the police what they wanted to hear. An innocent man may have just spent the last 40 plus years in prison because of her lies. Would you please cover this case. I’d love to see your insights and observations. Thank you.

I have a theory which I don't think has been talked about yet and that is that it may be possible that he found his way to a road and maybe thumbed a lift as a hitchhiker as he would have realised how far away from his residency he was. A vehicle may have stopped to pick him up and maybe he was threatened by the occupants who may have had bad intentions towards Jay. After getting into the vehicle, Jay may have been threatened with knives or a gun perhaps and then abducted to some other part of the island where goodness knows what they did to him. He may of course either have been thrown or fallen into the sea from a cliff face. Perhaps they should also be looking around the shoreline of the island as well.

leaving the island by boat was the first thing that came to mind when I heard that the airbnb was in Masca.
It is Playa de Masca and nearby coves where drug smuggling and people smuggling happens, as the only way down to the beach is by a steep footpath.
Assuming the 2 strangers were helping Jay, it was a short walk from the airbnb to the path that leads to the cove. a boat arriving at a prearranged time would get him off the island. one hell of a coincidence that the 2 "strangers" drove all the way to the rave, met Jay outside after the rave, drove him all the way back to Masca, allowed him to leave at the crack of dawn and there is no connection to a plan to ship him off the island!

The media have been putting a dot (as a marker) in the middle of the park, and people may have been taking that as the location of the last ping.
He appears to have gone missing near to Mirador La Cruz de Hilda, from where the search is starting tomorrow.
As for sending your location using a messaging app, I would think that that would be generated using GPS, with perhaps the help of cellular data. It would've been so much better if Jay had used a messaging or map app to send his precise location, and just stayed at that spot!
David Larkin has been staying in one of those little buildings in the ravine near Mirador La Cruz de Hilda, and he was picked up by the police on the basis that he was in difficulty. I wonder, though, if they wanted to take a look at him, and rule him out as a suspect? Pure speculation on my part, of course.

I think the Guardia Civil will find him within about a two hours walk of his last location. Jay had been partying for several days by that point. He wasn't compos mentis due to whatever substances and alcohol. He ended up staying a few hours with these two men and then left of his own accord. He wasn't seen running out of there,he wasn't asking for help, he wasn't showing signs of distress. He wanted to get the bus back to his accommodation. It looks like he got confused as to which way - unfamiliar town names that look the same, maybe getting which side of the road is going which way mixed up, etc. The local woman not picking him up is understandable. Unfortunately, Tenerife, etc., are 'party islands'. The locals have seen a lot over the last 3 decades of British youth, etc., coming over, getting wrecked and all sorts of madness going down. Plus, the main areas are crawling with people selling all kinds of drugs and all the problems that come with the gangs that operate that stuff. No elderly woman is going to pick up a young man who looks a bit wasted, even during the daytime, who is walking in the wrong direction. He was on a main road at that point and likely looked like he knew where he was going, even if in the wrong direction. I feel very sorry for his mum who looks like she's in deep shock, whose eyes look swollen from repeated crying and also for his dad and brother, who are also struggling with what's happened, etc

Videos like this are not helping anyone, you practically said nothing of any worth and mumbled on from the 4th minute. Give it a rest.
