- I JUST CANT LIKE HTIS KNIFE | ONTARIO RAT 1- This is a knife that everyone has on their list of the "greatest EDC knives" @NickShabazz even calls it a "gem" ... I disagree!!! This knife just does not hold up against the new generation of knives in the same price range. EDC knives have evolved and the rat series has not, evolve to fit your environment or become extinct. Usually haters have issue with classics.
Being contrary is a cheap way to get views I suppose.
I've been into knives for years and have gone through the spectrum of ownership. The RAT is a deserving classic. Simply a thing of beauty and excellent design. I tend to agree with you and value your opinion, but I gotta disagree with you on this.
I couldn’t agree more!
I have all 6 of the Rat series knives and love them all!
I recently bought a BenchMade Bugout and can honestly say that if you want an over rated, over priced, flimsy knife that feels like it was bottom of the barrel from China… the Bugout is it!
This sounds like an attempt at getting ‘click’s’ … Every criticism is moaning … A new low for this reviewer.
I use this RAT 1 everyday while refurbishing 3 rooms in my house and for daily chores …
Like the smaller RAT 2 That I used for 5 years before this one …
Thanks for the ‘feelings’ reviews … I think I’ll move on to other sites
Here's the thing about this knife. It's a user. You can skin game and fish with this knife and all the other uses of a knife besides whittling it is just a great tool for people who don't collect knives but use them 365 days of the year. This knife doesn't have any fancy bells or whistles or new age locking mechanism but neither does a hammer. It's a good little tool and it's simple basic design is all a working man needs.
Absolutely. I’ve beat this knife on every job and it never breaks, it stays sharp with a little sharpening and strop. For the money it’s so good I bought another one lol
Could not agree more. Have one in my truck. It's orange, ugly, and works .
Bonus feature, a 90° spine for striking ferro rods
I carried mine for years and it served me well sharpened easily and action was fine . I have upgraded to better knives but this knife will always have a spot in my collection.
Ontario Rat will always be a classic. It checks all the boxes of a reliable, traditional folder. I've had mine for years and years, it never stops performing for me, even with plain ol' Aus-8.
Paid 50 bucks brand new and it's withstood the abuse of a diesel mechanic for over 5 years.
Apples and oranges bro. 🤙
What other knives are better if you don't mind me asking?
I have my Rat 1 in AUS 8 for almost 20 years and never failled on me. Never rust, no blade play up down or side to side. To me is the perfect knife to all the tasks.
Love this knife and now it comes in S35VN
Long comment warning.
So it's kind of funny. I hate this knife for the exact opposite reason. A little background on me. I work as an industrial heat treat operator. We use hardness testers all the time. Maybe a dozen or so times a day. So that way we can monitor the hardness throughout the parts journey at our factory and give the customer exactly what they want.
Anyways. I originally bought the D2 version a month ago or so. Loved it. Hard as hell to reprofile to 20° but I eventually got it. I tested it myself on a brand new $26,000 hardness tester on HRC. The knife came out at 58-59RC. It was within spec for this steel. Curious, I bought the AUS8. That one tested at 60RC on the nose. And then curiosity killed the cat. I wanted the S35VN. As soon as I got it, I gave 2 coworkers my AUS8 and D2. They needed a pocketknives so I decided to give them mine because I just got the S35VN. I decided to test this one. 54RC. Super low for that steel. It needs to be 58-60RC. Tested it again. 54RC. I went to a different tester. 54RC. And I use my knife frequently but not enough to destroy the blade in a night. I went home, checked the edge and found multiple chips in the blade from just cutting plastic wrap. I reprofiled to 20°. Next day I get home and found a 3mm wide edge rollover. Again, just from cutting plastic wrap. I reprofiled to 25° to help with edge retention. And I'm still fighting edge retention.
I got pissed and wrote OKC an email and they still haven't responded. I didn't ask for my money back. I just want them to QC their product before a customer orders a $130 knife after shipping and engraving.
So anyways. I ordered another D2. As soon as I got it, I went into work and tested this one. AGAIN IT WAS 54RC. I will never order another OKC knife again. Yeah I get it, cheap knife. So what? If they keep selling knives that can't give the people what they're promised. They won't be selling knives for much longer.
It's super easy to sharpen if you know how to sharpen knives. Doesn't need a choile. Also, mine is tight as a jug with no play at all. Maybe you got a bad one.
There goes 12 mins of my life I’ll never get back. I love this knife.
Good for you … that’s the cool thing about this world you can love this Knife. But I think if maybe they had done some of the things that I mentioned in this video and modernised the production meeting the levels of other budget knives that are available today maybe they wouldn’t have went out of business
@@CrazySharp what do u think about civi they make a mini praxis for 30 dollars very popular the action is much better than this knife u review CIVIVI knifes are so good for the price should check them out if u havent u won’t be disappointed
I’ve never seen such hate for a rat 😁
well ... I didn't say I hate it ... I do but I didn't say that lol
@@CrazySharp 🤣
It just doesn't hold up to today's standards at pretty much anything.
Hate lol everyone I know EDC one and loves RAT1
@@57HEMIvikenthat is BS and you know it.
For me there isn't a folder of its type anywhere in that price range that I like as well as the RAT1 even just based on looks, blade shape, etc. I have AUS 8 versions and D2 versions and like them all - and have never paid more than $39 for one. Of course, although I am a 'knife guy' - I am 51, have carried a pocket knife since I was around 9, have bought, carried and used a lot of different pocket knives/designs and enjoy most knives - I get more excited about fixed blades and folders don't excite me much, in general. I look at a $150 folder and think, "Why?". They honestly don't look any better than $30 to $50 folders, to me. Further, to be honest, a lot of the latest and greatest folders at any price range look pretty stupid, to me. The knife you showed as a 'better' knife at the price point, while it certainly didn't look stupid, didn't look 1/2 as good or useful as the RAT 1, IMO. Then there are all the trendy talking points with new knife designs. "Oh, it's yet another cleaver-type design!" Blech. "Oh, the blade is so thin and slicey!" Yawn. "Just look at that sheepsfoot (or Wharncliffe) tip design!" Why would I want to do that? I mean, useful on a second blade? Sure. The tip I want in a single bladed knife? Nope. "Oh, premium steel!" A folder with a blade in the three inch (give or take) range isn't for hard use and cutting cardboard, while it can quickly dull an edge is not 'hard use' - a nearly paper thin blade in a cheap box cutter can handle that.. Besides, I know how to hone/strop so I couldn't care less if the steel holds it's edge for a few more cuts. Better action? I can thumb flip a RAT 1 and similar all day, every day - 'smoothness' seems very over hyped, to me.
It all just shows that we all approach these tools and the hobby differently. I watched this video just to see why you didn't like what I consider to still be one of the top folders made and, although I disagree with you, I appreciate your perspective. That is the best thing about the fact that there are different designs, manufacturers and price points - there is something (or a collection of somethings) for everyone.
For me its the grip profile coupled with the blade placement and shape. It just works for an all around user.
It’s literally one of the best knives for people that need a cheap option and abuse their knives. It has got to be one of the best budget knives. It’s never $59, it’s always in the $30-$40 range. What knife is better in that price range. Plus, mine locks up nice. I’ll bet he bought an Amazon knock off.
Best knife on the market for price and takes a beating.
My favorite knife. The Rat 1, not the 2! I got it in Aus8. Love it so much I bought a backup in case they stop making them for some reason.
I can’t believe anyone would say this knife feels cheap. But I played around with my friends bench made and thought it felt light, small, and cheesy so I must be different.
Damn i remember you years back holding a Rat 1 in your hand and comparing its feel to a 400$ knife 🤷🏻♂️😂.... well if im wrong dosent matter..... i just took out my rat 1 from storage and put a 1k naniwa edge to it, really nice... its a very solid and balanced knife, feels good in hand has nice blade geometry and shape, takes an nice edge and holds it well also sharpens up easy... imo it deserves its good reputation...
Yeah… I hate well made, dependable, high quality, $40 knives too… 😂
The LOCK.
THE LOCK.
The lock.
FYI, they now have an upgraded S35VN version. It's a great hard use knife. It's not design for precision or beauty. It's supposed to be a workhorse.
The thing I don't get the most about this design is huge space between where your index fingers rests on the handle and where the cutting edge starts. That huge inch+ space feels way off when both carving something away and when slicing on a surface. Ended up selling mine after a couple of years due to that
I have the same issue with the 130mm Victorinox Rangergrips.
I bet you're a guy who opens and closes his knives over and over and doesn't use it. The reason lots of people like this is because they actually use their blade and when they open it, they use it then close it. It's a knife people can beat up and use. My dad owns knives and his biggest concern was keeping it sharp. Skin a moose or deer and he'd sharpen it back up . Not once did he complain about the rivets or handle material or country it was manufactured in. Quality of steel was based on weight in his mind and if he could skin a animal start to finish the knife was a useful tool and would stay. Your problem is that you have more knives then uses for them maybe and now you can nitpick . But minimalist will not have a problem with the rat1.
You would lose that bet… did you even watch the reasons I gave… They’re not just aesthetic reasons. Their quality issues… Blade play, lock up, inferior construction(if you had heard me say talking about the difficulties with this assembly) … My point is that there are so many better more comfortable and ergonomically knives out there at the same price point that this nation just does not stack up anymore
@@CrazySharp the rat was a good option but now civivi, kizer, artisan have put out so many quality design/materials its second fiddle at best.
they just released it in g10 and s35vn !
I have it in g10 and well its not the exactly the G`0 i had in mind, they fucked it up by making it silky smooth g10 like its a mirror polish and it LIX BALZ. Not worth it. if i had to i would take off the scales and take them out to the concrete in my driveway and sand them down on it.
This design works for me. It's a good functional knife that I don't have to treat delicately, because it's so damn cheap. Some of my knives are never getting used properly, frankly because I paid too much or them.
They will soon have a premium g10 s35vn version under $150. I think I rember that right. I saw it on the Knife Center Shot Show, Ontario Knives Video.
Under $135.
It's 89 dollars as I type this
It is okay not to like the knife. Different strokes for different folks. Buying the S35vn version.
I put the Benchmade deep carry clip from the 940 on it for 10 bucks. Now it carries right side, tip up, and un noticeable. Nice full size knife for the $.
I might have gotten lucky but I got one a few days ago and it has none of these issues.
Not lucky… they are excellent.
Screw around with I, take it apart (why the hell are people disassembling this knife?) and put some weird coating on the blade …. and you’d probably change your mind. If have some strange desire to pull this knife apart, you deserve to have it never be as good again. Lol
I think you're overlooking one major point for the RAT 1. I can take this knife out with me in the field/to work and beat on it and it will work for everything I need it to, and then some. And if i lose it/it becomes broken I can replace it as it is under $40. Can't do that with a sebenza. this knife WORKS. its not a "snob" knife by any means, and doesnt pretend to be. its a user, simple as that. and it works great with gloved hands. doesnt have the stupid modern trendy deep carry clip that I have to spend 5 mins fishing it out of my pocket with gloves on. it simply works, and that is the beauty of it. D2 is good enough to last for a few days of hard use between sharpenings, which is perfectly adequate. I have to disagree with your take. If all you use knives for is flicking on the couch watching TV or at the office, or cutting up cardboard boxes from the comfort of your home, than sure there are better knives. The utilitarian beauty of this knife is just perfect. I'd take this with me to work ANY day over more expensive knives, which i also have
this guy looks like he is just a collector...never goes out to use his fancy knives😂
We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Btw, there is now an S35VN production version and there are a couple of custom options for M390, S90V and Cruwear.
If you were on "The Knive", you would be Juan Williams.
Mine has none of the problems you have. I am no expert, and I also never took it apart or painted the blade. It is in Aus 8 steel. Cuts well and is comfortable. Good beater knife.
I didn’t paint the blade… I did an electrically applied ceramic coating. And at the time I was professional Knife maker and was paid to do refinishing on knives costing in the thousands of dollars . As a matter of fact, for several companies I was the only person that could refinish a knife and not void the warranty, so let’s not blame the issues on my expertise.
I happen to like the RAT model one, but I'll admit there are far better options at that price point. I got my first model one back when the RAT stood for Randall's Adventure Training, and I payed $18 for it in 2014. Back then, it was one of the holy trinity of budget folders alongside the Spyderco Tenacious and the Kershaw Skyline, and I think that those three knives being the center of attention as budget champions is one of the reasons it's endured as a lot of people's favorites. That being said, it barely counts as a budget friendly option now with the price mark up on it. I still think it's a good knife. I stopped carrying mine when I got a paramilitary 2 because it's, in my opinion, a better option and was worth the price of admission.
i did not like it at first. after using it and doing my own reasonable torture test i came to appreciate it, even like it. its indestructible and very reliable in my opinion. i also love the way it looks and feels in use. as i write this i am waiting for amazon to deliver another rat 1. good video.
Well if you can obtain the S35vn version of the Rat 1, grab it as OKC has announced it's closing it's doors.
A few points as a non-Rat owner. One, it probably feels cheap because it is cheap. Two, I struggle with the logic that a comfortable knife handle isn’t well designed (if the stud position is uncomfortable for just you and everyone else likes it, maybe your thumb is the problem). Three, five versus three screws is just a silly gripe, sorry but it is. Four, if there are ‘so many other knives that are so much better’ name more than the one Petrified Fish you offered, which I will accept on face value having handled a PF and not an Ontario. To me it feels like you proactively avoid offering alternatives because that might involve getting them laughed at. Finally, it’s never taken me five years of owning a knife to decide it isn’t good.
I must admit I do want to check one of these out and I’ve been looking for valid reasons not to pick one up, and sorry, but there are none presented here. Just seems like you’re being contrary for the sake of it. Sorry, just my two-pence, I’ll see myself out!
Why is he disassembling the knife? He reminds of a friend who over cleans his firearms.
🙌 thank you!!! I have a Rat 2 and it is my most hated knife. I can't bring myself to giving it away because of how off center the blade is. It's the only knife I am unable to fix the centering. It's also ugly as hell. I have no idea how it became as popular as it did.
can’t disagree more. the double sided pivot is something that is good with the right user. for example my spyderco para 2 come in with blade play but the action was super loose. I disassembled it and oiled it and the double sided pivot allowed me to zero in my centering and tighten the pivots to have absolutely 0 blade play with still drop shut action. My rat 1 came in with blade play but I followed my normal steps and now there is not any blade play and centering is perfect and action is amazing. I guess is all comes down to the user and preferences but mine has no issues.
I like my Ontario Rat, however I would much prefer VG10 to the D2 steel it comes with.
I own more expensive knives but i like carrying my rat 1. Its a great knife
I was cutting cardboard today with my rat 2 and decided to be a ninja and start stabbing the cardboard. The lock failed the blade came down on my thumb and now I’m going to get stitches. 😂 yes I’m a genius
Do you want to sell it?
I love my Rat 1s. I have 2 of them. I love em
Me too 👊🏼
You got a dud. I bought 5 of these. None of mine have the problems you have.
I used to carry a rat 2 for work as its a great work beater knife. Very solid, decent enough steel, washers no bearings to get gunked up. Mine has great action with no play. Getting a dud (or maybe I just got lucky) would obviously effect opinion. Don't love it but for value very much like it and would say for a $40 knife still hard to beat. Which brings me to my point just out of curiosity what knives would you say are better for the price? And before anyone wants to jump my case, I dont care that he doesnt like it, at all. We are all allowed our options and preferences and can like or dislike any knife for any reason, as I dont like flippers and greatly prefer bronze washers over bearings. Just generally curious.
Petrified Fish makes knives in that price range that I think are superior. Also Cold Steel has a few very nice folders in the $40 range.
Like which knives are better.
I love them.
I will also have to disagree with you on this. While the materials are not high end the build is solid and safe.
You need to remember that these were designed before D2 was as widely available on budget knives. The blades that you find today that have better materials are a more recent creation.
The Rat was an amazing value at the time. It just has been surpassed by recent products.
See I think you kind of missed the point of the video… It is a knife that has not aged well and like a lot of other Knife companies they did not try to step into the modern realm and you see what happened… They could have easily modernized that design and brought it into the modern realm to compete with other knives. it’s sad because the first time I ever saw one it was definitely a very good option as an EDC… But at the price point there’s just so many other amazing knives that are done better
@@CrazySharp You are right that it would have been wise for them to try to update the knife. (especially considering they have now gone out of business). However most of the videos that I recall from people like Nick Shabazz recommending the RAT as a great option are a few years old. And at the time the knife was a gem. I bet that most reviewers would have dropped Rat much lower on their list of best knives at that price point.
It is true that it would have a challenge competing with todays budget options. But I think that it is still a good knife. I guess it depends on what you consider a good knife. It's reliable, all that I have ever held has had a good solid lock up, the full flat grind makes it a good slicer, and the handle is pretty comfortable. It is a very simple yet functional design which in my opinion is evergreen. Even if the quality continues to improve on new knives over the next 20 years, the Rat will still be a good knife because it will continue to be a reliable functional tool.
Mike, I am fully in support of this.
I have owned two Rat 2s and three Rat 1s. All of them had some kind of issue, like dangerously weak detent (wouldn't stay closed with the lightest movement, cut me several times because the blade snuck out unexpectedly), couldn't be made close to centered no matter what I tried, poor lockup, bad lock stick, and excessive blade play. I had one that seemed solid, and then I spent about five minutes cutting down a few boxes for the recycling, and the knife developed up-and-down lock rock that could not be fixed. And to top it all off, Ontario NEVER responded to a single email I ever sent asking for help with any of these issues. As far as I can tell, they just refuse to provide support for their foreign built knives.
I see so many people in communities like reddit talking up their Rats like they're some kind of holy grail of beater knives, that can take any abuse and stay rock solid forever--and I keep wondering if I'm just being gaslighted lmao.
I actually do like the feel of the handle, and a couple of mine at least came very sharp; none came noticeably dull anyway, but a couple were indeed shaving sharp. So that's good. But my overall experience with this line of knives has been extremely disappointing, and I am just constantly confused when I hear them being talked up like they're the budget hard-use knives designed by God himself.
The 1st rat 1 I got in like 2016 & I love it aus 8 steel & sharpened up great I recently got the s35vn steel version & I don't like it at all it just won't sharpen up good I think OKC quality has really went down hill in recent years
I have the R2 D2 and kind of feel the same way. I can not for the life of my get the blade centered, drives me nuts.
Mikle I understand. Just bought a demko 20.5. With original scales, feels like a 20 dollar knife. This thing is a joke. The marketing of the Shark Lock is the main selling point. I am very dissapointed at 150 bucks. The scales are paper thin. You cannot cut these scales any thinner. You cannot put this pos up to the cs ad10. Which Im a fan of . the Ad10 is built like a tank. Amazon was running a sale at 100 bucks and I went with it. Ok, I will give this thing a chance. 150 new plus another 100 some on g10 scales. Dont waste your money friends. Love your videos, you dont beat around. Thanx, Mike
I'm seeing $39.95 on blade HQ for the D2.
I'm considering it the RAT 1 as my one-handed trail knife. I don't like super steels (I want to sharpen my knives, not work them) but I want something decent. Spyderco Endura was too light and flexy for that blade size, and not comfortable for real cutting. Benchmade Griptilian had unacceptable blade play and was returned. Kershaw Blur was S30V on a recurve -- nope. I don't want thumb studs behind the cutting edge perpendicularly interfering with any food prep tasks. I don't like those rear index finger flicker protrusions snagging on my pants and I also just don't like them as an deployment mechanism. I want a 3.25+ inch cutting edge and don't want to spend more than $100.
That really only leaves the RAT 1 D2, no?
brands like kizer, civivi, artisan cutlery, cold stee;l have hundreds of designs and tons under a hundred bucks.
@@lovescamaros1 I ended up getting a Spyderco Tenacious in S35VN, which I absolutely love.
I like it but I went with the ratt 2 after getting the ratt1 and the ratt1 was a little big I like bigger knives but that one I don't know. Then ratt 2 was to small. If they had one in the middle I think I would love it. Great video brother 👍and i also had a lot of trouble trying to center it.
Got drunk one evening, and decided to make a troll video? Not cool.
so just because he dosent like it hes a troll? maybe he genuinely dislikes it like i did. I owned the rat 1 and 2 and disliked both enough to never carry them and promptly sold them on ebay. I hated the scales, the feel, the action they were just meh. i can spend the same amount on something from artisan, bestech, ganzo, kershaw....pick any of the new budget knife lineups and get something that feels, looks and performs better for less.
@@lovescamaros1 Bestech and Ganzo 🤣🤣 having owned both, as well as a RAT 1, the only one I wasn't disappointed with is the RAT. I gave the Beluga to my son because the action went all rough and gritty for no reason, and I have relegated the G722 to my car for emergencies because the bloody pivot won't stay tight.
@@CadillacDriver the rat never impressed me with plastic scales. i can buy g10 and d2/14c28n for fifty bucks and less these days.
@@lovescamaros1 it doesn't have to impress you. No one is making you buy one.
My first clone knife was a rat Ontario rat my second knife was a custom Dwayne Carrillo rat
Try the Ontario utilitac-2 if you don't like the RATs.
It's excellent.
Totally agree 100%
Can you recommend any specific Taiwan made folders that are better at this price point? I've been actually searching for some decent Taiwanese budget options aside from the Rat and the Ka-Bar Dozier (already have both) and have not had a lot of luck. Cold Steel and Boker have increased their prices and for a lot of the other brands is hard to find the country of origin. I wish Off Grid would make more of their offerings in Taiwan. Anyways, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
why does it have to be taiwan made? I can list a ton of quality folders made by artissan cutlery, civivi, cold steel, kizer off grid ect.
You coated it and then complaining it isn't smooth? I get that D2 isn't stainless. AUS 8 serves me well for occasional use EDC. The S35VN version i just ordered should be awesome (for me).
As far as the coding allow me to elaborate on that it’s ceramic coating that’s extremely smooth and does not affect the action. I’ve done it professionally for a long time and put it on a lot of knives… The knife was not smooth when it came
The coating I use isn’t like cerakote
I bought a D2 version that was a knife center exclusive and it had horrible quality control. The blade had all kinds of play, the hardware didn't sit flush with the handle scales. Terrible knife. However, I've purchased at least 4 or 5, AUS 8 versions from Cabela's in a bubble pack and they are flawless. This could be a case of this knife is just poorly made.
I never owned a RAT...but they look plain, uninteresting. Many people go crazy for them though. I hear the D2 has a near perfect heat treat. I may get one just out of curiosity
As someone who owns a Rat 2 and Rat 2 (Both D2), and have recently bought a BenchMade Bugout , I wanted to chime in.
I respect everyone’s opinion and I agree to disagree.
I’ll start by saying that I love the Rat knives. I have Rat 1 through Rat 6.
If you want to see a flimsy cheap American made knife, it’s the BenchMade Bugout!
I bought it at Cabelas for $170 and immediately had buyers remorse!
It is a really good $60 blade , but the rest of the knife reminds me of something purchased at Dollar General for $4!
If I hold , flip and spend time with both knives the Ontario Rat 1 seems like the one that was made in America and the over rated, over priced BenchMade feels like it came from China!
I also noticed that the knife you reviewed , you said was a D2.
The knife you linked was Aus 8.
Sounds like you got a lemon which you are basing your opinions on. No need to throw out the lemonade with the lemons.
I’ve had several of this model… all as bad as the first… they’d why I said I’ve tried to like it
@@CrazySharp - Good to hear you based your opinion on more than one sample. I had the exact opposite experience where the first Rat 1 suited me so perfectly that I can’t justify spending on a more expensive knife. Maybe if I purchase a second Rat 1 my opinion will change as well.
You're a brave man. Lol
The Glock/AK of knives??
This is the perfect example of how far and how fast the knife game has evolved. That was the king back in the day and compared to pretty much anything these days it doesnt come close.
At 4:26 what knife is that?
Petrified fish havrog
RAT is a terribly overrated knife. Its been adopted by the "good enough" hipsters tho, so no surprise. They like to show up in every video of a high end knife and thumb their nose up at the price and say something very original like, "no thanks, I'll keep my $40 RAT" or "that $300 knife can't do anything my $40 RAT can't do". Its not that they think its a good knife, they just like price shaming everyone else with their "good enough for me" D2 BS knife.
Also my man, I don't mind throwing in some rando size comparison knives, but a lot of people don't have those knives, feels like every video the size comparison is lost on me because you pick knives that aren't uber popular. PM2's, 940's, Elementums etc etc.
Thats why I always use the sebenza ... almost everyone has a good idea of its size
@@CrazySharp I've never even seen one in real life lol so other than knowing the specs it still doesn't help me correlate. See ya on the live tonight buddy
Rats are awesome! But they suck lol. They’re super good but also terrible. Back in the day Benchmade was using d2 and getting it for 50 bucks was wild. They cut well and are also tough. I do think you got a tinker in action and lockup. I never carry mine though. It’s a beater in a drawer
What knife did you show around 4:25 in the video where yoh sai this feels like a $60 dolla knife?
I don’t even remember the name of it… This video is almost a year old I’ve filmed probably 400 videos since then I know it’s a petrified fish brand
That was a Petrified Fish Havrog...Great knife that gets slept on. I have 3 of them. Still love the Rat 1 though...have 5 of them...lol.
I just purchased the Rat 2. Out of the box it has a serious blade clearance issue. When closed the tip is exposed and can slice your finger, wondering if anyone else has the same issue?
You got a fake.
I’ve never seen that issue on a RET before.
@@CadillacDriver BladeHQ doesn't sell fakes.
@pjcrabtree4456 It seems to be a recent thing. I have not had problems with any of their other products from a few years ago but I'm not the only one that got a defective model. My biggest issue was the lack of customer service.

Metal complex is literally somewhere making a vid doing the comparison to the Ontario rat 🐀 1 😂
Never liked it either and now I know why😅
1:46 You’re giving the rat the advantage of cutting edge
What do I get that is better for under 50.00?
gerber
It's a working man's knife.
No it's not supposed to feel expensive or ud never use the thing.
Reality,This is all you need in a knife. Rat 1 is tested and proven its worth
The thing is, they most definitely don't feel cheap. This guy clearly got pissed one evening and decided to make a troll video.
@@CadillacDriver the plastic scales feel cheap especially when you can get g10/micarta in its price range.
@@lovescamaros1 well that is your opinion. I have no issues with my orange Model 1. A knife is a utility tool, handle scale material isn't a priority, unless they are too slick, fall apart or otherwise degrade with use. None of which the RAT does. I have a micarta handled knife and after only a year or so it's discoloured and not as grippy as it was when new...
@@CadillacDriver the plastic scales of the rat are slick compared to pretty mych anything else in frn ive handled and it meh when compared to say spydercos bidirectional frn. I work in a field where smooth plastic scales offer little to no grip when my hands are wet, greasy or bloody. i assume you dont know that micarta patinas....thats the point of micarta it changes with age and it can be scrubbed clean with dawn.
@@lovescamaros1 it's slick now BECAUSE it's got a patina, and it certainly doesn't get less so with a scrub. It's done. Also it is most definitely more slick than the RAT now. It was fine when new. Your opinion is exactly that, I'm not the type of person to care if someone else has a different perspective or preference. Mine is mine, also.
I hate being a fake knife version of a rat
Where can you buy that mat from
amzn.to/3m1YSjy
I have 2 of these in AUS8. (When I bought mine there was no D2 option). I think this knife is of less value then it used to be. You've got many options the last couple years (like Civivi) that didn't exist when this came out. Or at least I hadn't heard of them. So it might not be the value it once was, but it's still very likeable to me. I'll take that D2 version of your hands if you want! 😎
Mmmmmm wrong lol but i understand the 1st amendment 😅😅😅😮😊 nice review brother 👍
😒 are you sure you know what are you talking about?
Compared to other knives at the same price point it’s not very good… they failed to modernize the design and materials. And that’s why they went out of business. Was it at one time awesome yes but you can’t just assume it will be forever. At this point it just feels cheap and poorly made.
@@CrazySharp man, I can accept your point but I totally disagree with you...I had expended years using this knife and I can tell you is not cheap...is a hard working knife, heavy and resistant, I'm looking for what you said, don't know where is the poorly made...maybe you should try it more offen so perhaps you can change your mind...I am not a collector but I have other folders, and this is my EDC knife...best regards and consider me a new follower :)
@@Qwerty_Q101 if you rewatch the video you can see where I talk about the issue with hardware… The action… Blade play and I believe centering. Don’t quote me on that I made this video several months ago I believe
I like rat 2
They’re assembled in my home town and we get them for $22. My family’s favorite deer knifes other than queen steel witch was also local to us but is unfortunately outta business now
You're nuts. Fits the hand, rugged, good for food prep and hard use. That's rare. You're opinion is an outlier. Sorry. It comes in S÷5vn now. Can't be beat for the money.
no such thing as a one size fits all knife. i owned the rat 1 and 2 and really disliked both and never carried them over the plethoraa of options i had for cheap beaters.
He is bad though it was real learning processes hurdles that overcoming life world
Maybe i am crazy, but the play is not visible on ur vid, maybe u r doing it super Sonic speeds. Dude it's not there, this is a pointless hate vid. Super dislike.
Agree. It's a pos
I don’t like them at all. Hate the way it felt in hand
