Virginia is beautiful in its own right, it has the southern heat and northern cold, great open lands, plenty of nature, lots of hiking and outdoorsy things, great schools, friendly people, small communities, great for kids, safe, plenty of elevations and mountains, Arlington, Alexandria, National Harbor, Washington DC nearby. So many people complain about Michigan weather, but I'm always amazed at how often other areas of the country make the news because of the weather. Michigan rarely does. One of the main reasons ppl are leaving over the last few yrs is due to their home states response to COVID. I’m in Jersey and it was all lock it all up now and ask questions later. A lot of small biz owners do not want to go through something like that again. I do food delivery for extra cash. I spoke to a lot of mom and pop proprietors and that is their biggest fear. They do not want to relive that under no circumstances. Many of the states your speaking off where folks are relocating, are states which took a more measured approach to the pandemic.

My parents moved to North Carolina and stayed there for 7 years. The spring, summer and fall are miserable because of the heat and humidity. You can actually see the air because the humidity is so high. The humidity in Michigan is nothing compared to North Carolina. My Mom was visiting me in May and wanted to be outside in the fresh air. She wouldn't go outside in May in North Carolina, she could not take the heat and humidity. It may be that there are more jobs in North Carolina. I don't know. Shitty roads, Democrats keep getting elected, orange barrels half the year and everything is covered in ice the other half. It's always something other than nice and sunny. Rain, high winds, snow, ice, it never stops. I'm in Phoenix now and it's the best decision I've ever made. And by the way..... $349,000 will buy a 2 bedroom box in a sketchy neighborhood. You need $500k and up for a decent house in a decent area. All the trailers bring the average price down.

The roads are better up that way because they don't salt the roads, there's too much snow so they use sand to get traction. But that right there is part of why I left as soon as I could. I can't stand Michigan weather. It's absolutely miserable. It's the middle of October and where I'm at now it has been sunny and high 80s. Paul, I was harsh in my comments on my prior posting. You may know all about Michigan and where to live. I was born in Detroit and grew up there and Livonia. Two years after high school, I went into the USAF. I was stationed in Oklahoma; Clark Air Base, Philippines; Wurtsmith AFB here in Michigan; and down in Texas. So I was exposed to different climates and I could tolerate the different weather seasons because I was basically healthy back then. I experienced weather "events" at all 4 USAF base assignments. The first three of emergency situations of aircraft including plane crashes. At Wurtsmith AFB in one Saturday morning in August, 1976 going to the chow hall across from my dorm it was SNOWING!!!! It melted on pavement but stayed on the grass. Snowing in Michigan in August nonetheless. At my last AFB assignment, Sheppard AFB; Wichita Falls, Texas there was two dust storms, a leftover of a hurricane, and a F-4 tornado through the city. Forty four people died that day and 1,200 injured. At the time it was the fifth worst tornado in U.S. history. Videos of this are on RUclips called "Terrible Tuesday". You may have knowledge of different states to move to, but the following is mostly a tourist visiting destination. Ouray(pronounced U-ray, named after a Ute Native American Indian Chief), Colorado there in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado is not for people who get scared of heights. Going southbound from Ouray on Red Mountain Pass where there is NO GUARDRAILS most of this 26 mile pass it drops off to 800 FEET DOWN. Yet there's people driving all kinds of vehicles on highway. Ouray is considered the off road 4x4 mountain driving capital of the U.S. RUclips video name of Boring Baby Boomer from Traverse City, Michigan filmed a video going on Animas Forks Road where there was multiple of avalanches in the winter of 2018-2019. They couldn't proceed all the way to Animas Forks Ghost Town because an avalanche blocked the dirt mountain road estimate of 80 feet deep. On this Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for tourists had a avalanche blocked the train tracks of 120 FEET DEEP!!! This is the nature of when you have steep mountain hills and avalanches happened by themselves or by what is called Migration. This is a flyover by helicopter and they drop dynamite charges to set off a avalanche on purpose. So the danger of a avalanche goes away and then the the snowplowing crews clear off snow, rock, and maybe tree debris. This procedure happens in western United States mountainous areas. Finally a semi-truck driver that goes by his RUclips channel name of "Riding Shotgun" has filmed videos all over western United States in all seasons. He filmed a video of going northbound in June, 2018 on Red Mountain Pass where there is a 8% degree decrease going to Ouray. He's hugging the cliff side and you can see where off the highway into the abyss hundreds of feet down. This highway Pass is the most dangerous paved mountain pass in all of Canada and the United States combined. The tenth worst worldwide. Going out there on your "bucket list"?
