Some awesome country mate.
Yes recently went up to the cob caught a few rainbows in on the fly rod and cooked one up and the taste is so good they taste good the ones up there.
The lake and landscape is amazing, as is the scoff mate. Great times. BTW, Tony and Co. are a great team, love their channel also.
Thanks Moose.
A weka stole my titanium cooking pot at the Heaphy Hut campsite. I had just arrived and unpacked my gear onto a picnic table. The pot was still in it's bag and filled with food. Went for a quick walk to the river - maybe a hundred metres away - but by the time we returned it was gone. Searched all through the surrounding bush but no sign of it!! I loved that pot. I bought it in Christchurch and walked with it all the way to Cape Reinga only to lose it to a cheeky bloody weka! Still, I think they're great birds and it's great to see 1080 having such a positive effect of their population numbers.
Bugger

We were in Abel Tasman and wekas stole someone’s bag of food and our coffee and in the elephant grad there was so much stuff by the wekas nest
ride with me makes me wanna go on a road trip
cool
Ever consider doing harmonica tutorials?
I did them fa while back but it never took off.
@@ClayTallStories I have a hohner marine band in the key of C that I picked up on a trip to New Orleans. Been using it as a dog whistle lol but wanna learn to play looks like fun.
Those weka bro could be like the bower bird over here in Australia. Trying to impress the female weka to their domains. Lol!
That was a great trout you caught clay, shame about you losing the spinner 👍
Thanks 👍
I love ur videos mate
Wonderful, lads own adventure. Those darn wekas, as bad as kea's. You and Simon had a blast, sorry but his set up was cool. Lol 😆. Mmm tasted the trout.
I spent 41/2 years at the Cobb. Taught my boys how to fish there. Mate that fish would have gone back. Too small. Still each to his own. Love the Cobb and one day will get back there.
Yeah I thought he would of pit it back to grow bigger
Where I come from, that would be a trophy, lol.
I have fished that dam since I was a boy and never had much luck pulling anything out bigger than a 1 pounder. I must be doing something wrong Paul? Any suggestions?
@@ClayTallStories Well Clay, its been over 40yrs since I lived at Cobb. Use to walk the length of the lake. If you know where the original dam is, that's the place. Had more luck there than at the head of the lake. Thanks for the video, it brought back a flood of memories. Fly fishing is the way to go and check what is flying around ie cadis nymphs etc. Later on in my career with the NZED I moved to Turangi and fished the Tongariro system, now ya talking big trout.
Bloody paradise clay looks nice there!
Wekas are so funny :D
That bedrock looks amazing
Premo bro gotta love camping and fresh trout too much
Ride with me is an awesome tune!
Thanks mate. I wrote that one about a mate of mine 'Ray' who is a cowboy in the true sense. Every time He gets knocked off his horse he gets back up again, dusts him self off and tears back into life.
Lol the weather or the wekas decided what you are doing.
It's been many many years since I've been over that hill Clay, or up the Cobb. Man you are making me homesick for good Kai every time i tune in. As a child we moved from Murchison to Puponga, and the old mans garden was raided by the damned wekas. They neatly layed the plants down in a line, where they had pulled them out of the soil.
He reckoned they were sadistic little bastards. O.o
Have you ever been to the coast out back of Mangarakau Clay, there used to be heaps of crays out there way back in the 1970s. Huge crays, so numerous we could just pull them out of the rock holes, without even getting wet.
Never been there. Sounds awesome
Another awsome video what a wicked 24hrs away that would of been . The morning song from the birds. And what a insperatiinal set up simon has
Love this. Superb content 👌👍
Been waiting for this one Clay used to fish there in the 90s stayed in the old hut just up the hill off the road. Is it still there caught rainbows on the traffic light Toby's smoked them under an old wool sack and a bit of corrugated iron to keep the heat from melting it 4 hrs later they were bloody beautiful . Wanted to hunt for deer but there was bloody 1080 everywhere so stuck to the trout .Only had two trips in for a couple of nights so thanks for bringing back the memories.
Not so many deer up there now but the trout are prolific to the point they need culling I reckon. They are eating each other
Just bites its head 🤣🤣
Kia Ora Clay loving the videos....Top shelf stuff 👍👍👍
In British Columbia, Canada the fly rod is the BEST way to catch rainbow trout. Spinners and spoons work too but flys always win. It’s funny how fishing differs across the world depending on what the fish eat
I reckon I could pull a few fish out of that dam with the right fly
Come-on mate there were plenty of rockes to kill that fish properly...
There are many ways to kill. Teeth works fine for me.
Just another day in paradise...
You always make me hungry bro
Sorry!

Nice 😊 mate
This is the one was looking for shot bro.
I hope you make it up there sometime mate. That was an epic wee mission. That lake is packed with rainbow trout.
Great vid Clay.
Wicked bro
That's a great video
Thanks mate
Are the EELS protected there?
I am not sure but just moments after I filmed this one Simon and I saw three young fella's carrying it dead on a pole stretched out on their shoulders. I would have left it as it was about 60 years old and a breeder. It looked like a short fin too.
How can I join patreon
Have a look in the description mate and welcome to the platform.
Can't believe you're spinning for trout. You kiwi heathens you. 😆
Yeah sacrilege I know but there is nothing classy about the way I gather my tucker mate.
1:40 Simon cuts the corner a bit maybe...
Clay mate love the trout fishing videos please do more
Will do
Awesome vid mate....man those fish looked good

Thanks for another goodie bro and I really appreciated how you pronounced that place name properly. It may not mean anything to most people but as a Maori it means a lot to us and shows that your willing to know and say what is right. Keep up the good mahi bro
My step mum is a fluent speaker so if I get it wrong she will pull me up bro
