This song is empathy manifested into sound. I could be mistaken, but I am fairly certain the lyrics were inspired as simply as observing someone from afar and imagining what there life was, is and could be.
I know it's sacrilege to say this, but I wish McCartney would write a an extended 4-5 minute version of this. It always feels like it ends too soon, which is obviously part of the appeal (it always leaves you wanting more). But it would feel like such a release to listen to this song, at least once, without having that final feeling of slight disappointment.
