I can't believe all the people criticizing his performance. If you're too insensitive to get around his posture, or you claim that it's "not musical enough", please take your head out of your butt and appreciate this for what it is: a demonstration of the technical abilities of one of the best trumpet players in the world.
If you are talking about the fact that he crosses his arms around the trumpet when not playing, it is possibly because the auditorium is too cold, and he is trying to keep the horn warm. Temperature change is a real enemy of brass players! Outstanding performance, and the encore requests speak for themselves!
Me too ,,I was a solo trumpeter as a kid and a teenager before I discovered girls and electric guitar ,Carnival of Venice was the Holy Grail of solo pieces,I remember managing the first 2 maybe 3 parts but never reached these heights,,the guy was incredible!
I KNOW BECAUSE I AM A KID AT 15 YEARS OLD AND CAN PLAY JUST 1 AND 2 VARATIONS AND HE IS MY STAR AND KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IS BECAUSE I TRIED AND OF COURSE, FAIELD
I really dislike it when people talk bad about Nakariakov's playing. Nakariakov can do things on the trumpet that people can only have dreams about doing. This is by far my favorite performance of this piece, Nakariakov plays it like he's a little pixie. absolutely incredible!! bravo Sergei!
For me I never get tired of watching Sergei perform. He’s always excellent in his performances. As for the critics, I haven’t heard of any. He is the pride of Russia.
This is ridiculously amazing!!! I don't understand how someone can make playing the trumpet seem so effortless. I'm a trumpet major in college, and it is definitely not easy for me a lot of the time, especially when I get into the upper register. I'm working on it, though. Nakariakov is definitely one of my favorite trumpeters, along with Phil Smith, Alison Baalsum, Tine Thing Helseth, Bud Herseth, and a few others. This is definitely a top notch performance.
I was a Trump major in college in the mid 70's, but I dropped out. No regrets. In fact, I'm so glad my parents allowed me to try and figure out if a career in music was for me. I didn't drop out because of the realization that I couldn't be this good (which I couldn't), but because I realized that being a musician required such a singular focus that in the end it wouldn't make me happy as a career. On the other hand, I am deeply grateful for my musical experiences because it was and always will be a source of awe and beauty that I will forever treasure. Back in my day, there weren't as many great players as today. I am just totally astounded by the number of unbelievable Trumpet players there are now. Sergie's talent and mastery is just ridiculously astounding. I particularly appreciate the absolute preciseness and clarity of all of his articulations; this is an area in which I believe he is unmatched. But there are so many, like those you've listed, that are unbelievable and have their individual strengths.
Sergei had a car accident when he was 10, which is why he stopped playing piano because he couldn't keep his back straight. Then, he moved to trumpet, and he had to hold the bell low because his back didn't give him the support to hold it up.
To play like this requires incredible strength and control of the lip muscles. It sounds like more than one person is playing at the same time. Almost like playing chords on a brass instrument! Totally wonderful.
@jaedynskyeupibarri I agree. Segei's technique is best of best. It is my opinion as well as many trumpet players opinion. My favorite trumpeter is Maestro Maurice André abd I think he is best trumpet player of the all time. But still, real technique trumpeter is Sergei Nakariakov. Wynton is great, too. He is my second favorite trumpeter :) have a good day everyone
Salutations et compliments de Toulouse France. Que d'émotions en cette étonnante prestation ! Et quelle maîtrise ! Décidément, la Musique est bien le plus universel des langages, dont il serait difficile de se passer. Bien à vous . Robert T.
Have played this at least 2,000 times. People don’t here the small stuff but boy do I. This guy has great technique! We use to play this with one finger in Senior Class in my High School. Played the 3rd movement for Frank Purcell at Iowa and got a full ride. To play like this all the time and especially to be on everytime one performs is the secret! I got too nervous! Never mastered the nerves! Damn!
I don't dispute the razor-sharp criticism that has been offered, but I would just like to point out a couple of really remarkable features of this recording and others that Nakariakov has made. His double- and triple-tongued runs, especially the difficult descending runs, are the fastest and smoothest I have heard. And most of the difficult phrases, not to mention those of a cantabile character, have a gentle grace created by a dynamic rounding off at the end, coupled with just the slightest hint of vibrato. He favors the mezzo-piano dynamic range. The playing never sounds aggressive. In this video he looks, perhaps, older than his years. I know he has sustained a spinal/neck injury. I hope he is well today (12/30/2015) and will continue to perform.
Bravo! Sergei is such an incredible trumpet talent! Totally relaxed, spot on in every movement and what speed! Most trumpet players choose to play this on a cornet, but not Sergei! I have heard many of the world's best trumpet players say Sergei is the best. Of course that is totally subjective. One thing is obvious, he has total command over what he does and doesn't even break a sweat!
Lots of complaints about posture. He's an artist not a member of DCI. He plays in the posture most comfortable to his embouchure. Get off his back, his performance was magnificent.
I agree with your comments that each individual is different however a raised approach does more than merely give more loudness. In most cases a raised angle makes it easier to relax the throat giving a wider airstream and so a warmer richer tone. Of course there are exceptions to the rule ! In regard to the video a terrific excecution of the technicalities of Arbans Carnival of Venice.
It's interesting... I have a natural underbite, so I always played with a highly-risen bell. It does seem like many of the virtuosos play with lower bells, though. I wondered if it gave me a disadvantage, but I think you were right to say that it depends on the unique features of each person.
Quite a few posters here have referred to his posture being the result of a car accident and his recovery only allowing him to take on this posture for his comfort and technique.
Sergei is definitely one of the best trumpet players alive ( but it's hard to beat Alison Balsom for tone and flexibility and I still like Vincent de Martino) however I do wish he would stick to the timing. Arban knew what he was doing when he wrote it. Sergei plays the theme almost twice as fast as it's written and he plays the 8th notes at the beginning of the phrase as 16th notes then dots some notes at the end of the phrase to make up for it. he also plays the first variation much faster than it's written. then by the end of the piece he is playing in time. this makes the song sound a bit awkward because it almost seems to be the same speed all the way through whereas it is supposed speed up and build all the way to the ending. overall though he does a very good job of it... much better than I could do myself.
He sticks the first note right of the theme exactly on the 6th eighth note. And he doesn't play the theme almost twice as fast as its written, nor does he play the first variation overly fast (its marked eighth=eighth). Go back and check your Arban book. Anyways Its called musicality bro. Its totally in the style in the style to play rubato on this (not that he really is). Spend your time getting better, not trying to nitpick the masters.
Those are some sharp articulations, this man is a beast
you should listen to his arutunian trumpet concerto
I can't believe all the people criticizing his performance. I don’t think people realize how incredibly difficult it is to do what he just did
I do, that's for sure.
Me too ,,I was a solo trumpeter as a kid and a teenager before I discovered girls and electric guitar ,Carnival of Venice was the Holy Grail of solo pieces,I remember managing the first 2 maybe 3 parts but never reached these heights,,the guy was incredible!

Absolutely, no idea have they. Forgive them, for they know not, what they hear.
Well they make it sound so clean you cant feel the effort. Musicians know, but to average listeners its a cool fluttery thing
My band buddies tried in vain to play the Carnival of Venice in high school. Now After 60 years I just get tears in my eyes. What a talent!!!!

Rye Shippee but can he bake a potato with the trumpet?
Its good but i find maurice André better on this one. Especialy the finale Sounds better
@@gjones3471 yes
@@janenderle3037 Well yes, but Maurice André wasn't a human being...
movielover saying he’s not the best ever isn’t necessarily talking bad but he is definantly very good
For me I never get tired of watching Sergei perform. He’s always excellent in his performances. As for the critics, I haven’t heard of any. He is the pride of Russia.
Holy shit! Everything this guy does is 100% perfect. Actually 110% perfect - he deserves bonus points.
imagine playing alone for thousands of hours learning an instrument just to play for the pleasure of others. that is dedication, it is sacrifice.
Good musicians never play their instruments for the others pleasure, it's always for themselve in first place ;)
And the people you play for, generally, have no idea what they have heard or what it takes. Decades and decades of practicing hours a day, everyday.
Actually, probably well into tens of thousands........10x7x52x15 at the least.

Nakarov started hard in about age of 10years
Listen to Maurice Andre playing it: now, that is "the best trumpet playing" you will hear. I used to play trumpet too. Listen to him.
Bud is a freaking animal. Love his work with the CSO.

I come back to this again and again. I just can't actually understand HOW he does it!!
Honestly, I didn't know anyone could play like that. My mind is boggled.
El mejor trompetista de musica clasica de todos los tiempos sin duda alguna.
