Apart from his divine musicality, his technique is beyond belief. For example, his mastery of "circular breathing" - breathing in through the nose while simultaneously pushing air out through the mouth using air stored in the cheeks - is on display at 21:32, and continues for nearly a minute, as he contends with the fact that the cellist, for whom the piece was written, doesn't have to breath, so there's no break in the musical passage, no place for a wind player to catch a normal breath. Bravo Nakariakov!
The circular breathing is to emulate the continuity of bowing in between sound and articulation. String players breathe, too, for the sake of phrasing, as in, the music breathes.
*Timecodes* (Surprised that I am the first to do this ...) Haydn, Concerto in C major, Hob. VIIb:1 0:43 I. Moderato 10:15 II. Adagio 18:30 III. Allegro molto _________________________ My God is he SUPERB
I think this is my favorite Nakariakov performance. The guy is simply a genius, and especially so on the flugelhorn, which I understand is his favorite instrument. Doesn't matter if that wasn't the instrument the composer intended - this performance is simply gorgeous.
It is so overwhelming.....i heard many versions of this piece with cello....but this interpretation by Nakariakov and the ICO is the absolute best performance i ever have heard....Thank you for posting.
Astounding technique! This breathtaking performance makes you rush to buy tickets to wherever Sergei is performing now. However, his website does not provide updates on his schedule. Can anyone help?
This instrument is practically the same as a valve trombone only the mouth peace and bore is smaller. Obviously it is much easier to control than the slide trombone being it is valved.
@@w96725 Not really. Flugelhorns are more like tubas. It's like a soprano tuba in b flat. Same range as a trumpet but with a rounder sound. Trombones are closer to trumpets, just in a lower range. We coud say that a trumpet is a soprano trombone.
Depends on the composer. In many cases, I'd agree. Sometimes it's interesting to hear your own piece played by a different instrument though (I compose, so I can testify).
Who cares about the composer's fantasy? If you can perform something this beautiful it does not matter one whit what the composer would think. This recording is pure bliss.
I would say you houner him/her further by loving their music so much you go out of your way to give their music new life, giving it your honest interpretation and taking it in with genuine honesty.

My God is he SUPERB
Heard him play this live at International Trumpet Guild several years ago. Audience went crazy after he finished. Great memory.
I heard him play this piece live and it was the best musical experience of my life.
Me too🤩🤩
Must’ve been absolutely awe inspiring❕
Me too!

You are right. I too think he makes best music on the flugelhorn.
AMEN !
Good God! That sounds sublime! The tone is out of this world and the phrasing? An aged fine wine!
Phänomenal ❤
What fantastic artistry. Superb in every way. Rhythm taut AND supple. A true master.
It is so overwhelming.....i heard many versions of this piece with cello....but this interpretation by Nakariakov and the ICO is the absolute best performance i ever have heard....Thank you for posting.
Beautifully done! Sergei Nakariakov is the best living trumpet player.
S beautiful and amazingly musical performance. It’s like Haydn wrote this for him
Brilliant. Not often does one hear classical music on the flugelhorn
Charles Barry
In 9 more years Chuck Mangione first album will be old enough to be a "classic". Does that count?
yea hahah I can also stop playing the cello now xd
@@ironmandave3000 hahahaha if it counts it will be very sad
no doubt he is the best !! happy to live with him..
Bravo ! La grâce est au rendez-vous!
Nobody can not play like this with this instrument & that musical quallity
How anyone could not like this, I don't know!
21:30 to 22:15 breathtaking.
circular breathing
Litteraly. 🌀
This is beautiful. Sergei is a magician with his horn skills
From 21:31 until 22:31 he played more notes than i did in my entire life on bugel!!!!🤣😲😳A living legend!!!!!!
Magnifique! Et il joue par cœur …
What can you say? This is perfection!
He's also a really nice person.Comes across as gentle and humble
Breathtaking, pun intended
breathtaking....
8.45-9.35 wonderfull. Tears in eyes.
I'm getting a kippa if would help me play like Sergei. Such a warm, rich beautiful sound!
So beautiful!!!
His abilities transcend this world... Elliott Oppenheim, Trilllium Brass
Next to Andre I thought this type of virtuosity was done for.....
grandioso!

beautiful
Gold standard!
¡Sublime!
Great, great, great!
it was the best i seen ever
superbe fabuleux divin
18:33 best
Sergei needs to interpret Bach's cello suites on Flugelhorn!
Excelente !!
Strange looking cello!
Ahahahahah
And the name of this strange Cello is Trumpet
Imijakob 0815 wrong it’s flugelhorn
Yes you‘re right😂😂
The flugelhorn is often referred to as the "cello" of the trumpet family.
The best!!!
lo mejor
Why does he play into the floor, keeping his bell lowered so much? Does that affect his tone?
Just his natural posture and jaw position
Fascinating Haydn Concerto! However, it is a' Haydn trumpet Concerto' performance along with the Israel Chamber Orchestra! I'm not kidding.
It's a transcription of the cello concerto, not a trumpet concerto. He's not even playing a trumpet.
jazzing up joseph
I saw Circular Breathing.
oui
twice at less
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍
Nice
one cello player forgot to dye his hair gray :-p
Sergey is a GOD period.
He taught God to play , but not as well as him.
Strangely, it sounds like trombone

@@trumpettuba498In fact trombone is just Italian for "big trumpet"
Sergei is great. But this sounds like a cello piece being played on a flugelhorn.
well it is
What? No praise for Haydn? Oh, yes, his music free so I guess it's worthless.
he plays so well but if you play a concert with a different instrument you destroy composser's fantasy...

No matter. A performance at this level commands all respect.
