I came to Sairee Cottage to do the IDC and
MSDT in January 2023. The facilities and location are amazing - everything you could dream of and more! This allowed the scheduling to run smoothly and efficiently, along with help of the boat crew who are awesome!
Marcel and Julian are very encouraging and knowledgeable. They created a supportive atmosphere throughout and prepared us extremely well for a successful lE. Thanks to all the team at Sairee Cottage, it was a truly memorable time and I'm excited to discover all the new possibilities to come as a PADI scuba instructor!

One of My friend suggested me this place for my IDC. He did from here as well and he wasn't wrong. I had a wonderful time at Sairee Cottage Diving with the platinum course director Marcel Van Den Berg, He really helped me to improve all of my not only water skills but almost everything connected to Diving. It really helped me to gain more confidant than ever. Everyone from the IDC class from different countries, that also gave me a wide exposure and culture exchange during the IDC. Marcel really teach you out of the box in a way that you wouldn't even need the slates for briefing on the IE.
I can surely say that this is the best place to do the IDC if you are looking forward to do in Thailand.

I came here to do my divemaster and IDC course. It has been an amazing experience and I can fully recommend Sairee Cottage Diving for anyone who wants to do this and any other dive courses too. The school goes above and beyond to adhere to the industry safety standards whilst maintaining a very laid back and friendly atmosphere at the same time. The staff are all very knowledgeable, friendly and professional.
The divemaster course is very flexible and can be done at your own schedule. It was a great way to get back into diving after a long time out, at my own pace without being rushed. The tuition and advice from Flav with all his experience prepared me so well for the IDC.
The IDC course conducted by Marcel van den Berg was exceptional. Marcel has an immense wealth of knowledge and experience. He is an excellent teacher and is always so energetic especially during his lectures! His incredibly high attention to detail when teaching the course has been so useful. He goes above and beyond the requirements for the IDC, factoring in many real-life scenarios into his teaching, genuinely cares about his students and is always willing to help. By the time of the Instructor Exam we could not have been better prepared! We all passed with very high scores!
The videos on this channel have also been incredibly useful when preparing presentations for the IDC and general advice on how to improve your own teaching.

Marcel and his dedictated team of professionals are going above and beyond to make sure you do not only pass your exam with flying colors, but also benefit from years of working in the diving industry when looking for a job afterwards. While the course is very structured & organised, it still allows individual students to make up for missing or rusty skills and stay positive throughout the course. I did all my training as a diver on Koh Tao, so I was sure to come here to pass the IDC. I had heard about Marcel Van den Berg before and his videos helped me a lot when I passed my Divemaster.
So it was the logical choice for me to come here to do the IDC and MSDT, and I knew it would be good.
But I wasn't prepared for how awesome and absolutely brilliant this experience was !!!
Not only will Marcel prepare you to pass the IE with flying colors, he will make you ready to be one of the best diving instructors. During his course, he will teach you everything you need to know about being an instructor, while keeping it fun and interesting all along. I highly recommend doing the MSDT with him too, as it feels like a cherry on top of a cake.
I have spent 3 unforgettable weeks and met friends for life. I will be back for more.

I just finished my PADI IDC with Marcel van den Berg at Sairee Cottage Diving and had an absolutely amazing experience!! Marcel is a fantastic teacher and cares so much about his students and is very entertaining keeping long classroom days fun. There were 5 of us this month from all over the world…a little UN formed and we created bonds that will last a lifetime. Not only did he prepare us all extremely well for the IE, but he integrated real world advice and guidance for when we are actually instructing SCUBA. I loved that the entire course was not just about passing a test. BTW, we ALL passed the IE with flying colors and went into the test with confidence and feeling well-prepared, but we also feel that we have many tools to help us succeed once we start teaching.
I did a lot of research as to where to do my IDC/IE, because of Marcel’s awesome RUclips skill circuit videos (helped me so much when doing my Divemaster course), his informative well-made website, and his fast response and help when making my decision I choose him. I am so thrilled with my decision and have absolutely no regrets about doing my IDC/IE here with Marcel. I would HIGHLY recommend Marcel at Sairee Cottage Diving for anyone looking to become a PADI SCUBA Instructor.

I did the Instructor Development Course with Sairee Cottage Diving and their amazing instructors, who are really THE experts. They made sure we were more than prepared for the exams, and took extra time and attention to address any questions, concerns, or issues we had before, during and after. They put so much care into their teaching and made it clear that they wanted us to succeed, not only on the exams but in the dive industry. They knew all the tips and tricks to get us ready. I just recently finished my IDC with sairee cottage, if you're looking for some of the best trainers in the industry, this is the place to be. If it's for an open water course, or even anything to the instructor, the trainers here go above and beyond customer service. I couldn't shout out Marcel and Julian more, I've never seen teachers care so much about their students and put the extra effort that absolutely no where else would. Not only the trainers but the people I did the IDC I wouldn't change for the world.
If you're looking for a great experience, that will most likely change your life, Sairee cottage is the way forward!

I recently had the privilege of taking the IDC and MSDT course at Sairee Cottage with some of the coolest people I have ever met. I feel like I really lucked out with my decision of choosing Sairee Cottage and couldn’t be happier.
Let’s start with the instructor team that made this the best IDC I could imagine. Marcel, the course director is legendary for his great approach to teaching. He taught us all so much and although it could be a little bit overwhelming at the beginning by the end we felt super confident and passed the IE with ease. I feel like he went so far above and beyond what a course director is required to do to prepare us for the IE. Marcel not only prepared us for the IE tests, he also helped prepare us for life as a dive professional with so many stories and insights from lessons he learned over the years.
In addition to Marcel the rest of the team including Julian, Matt, Rory, Maii and others also gave us so much help every step of the way to make sure that we had a complete grasp of everything needed to be a superstar instructor and made the learning environment very relaxed and fun. If any us had any problems along the way we had a whole team of amazingly generous people always there ready to help us when we needed them.
Besides the instructor team our group of IDC candidates was unbelievably cool. I couldn’t ask to have gone through this experience with a nicer group of people. It was so much fun learning all together and seeing everyone’s progress along the way. I would be honored to have one of my fellow students as my dive instructor. They are all such helpful, caring and fun people not to mention extremely skilled divers.
Marcel and the team also organized multiple events for us including some great dinners, movie nights, sunset drinks, a crazy cool night dive and a day trip on a boat around the island. Having been there for Songkran was also an unforgettable experience.
The facility itself is also top-notch. Sairee Cottage is a very cool spot with two pools and a great pool bar. The classrooms are very comfortable. They have their own restaurant with very good food, the gear area is well organized and the team running the whole thing are on top of their game.
All in all I can’t say enough good things about my time at Sairee with the Sairee family. The course, the friends I made, the time I had and all of the new skills I learned are just fantastic. I’m so happy about having gone there and if you are thinking about it just go for it, you’ll love it! It was one of the greatest times of my life!

I did my Instructor Development course with Marcel at Sairee Cottage diving, and the amount I learned in that time and everything Marcel and Julian did for us was absolutely invaluable. I finished the IE more than prepared for work in the dive industry. The way this course is set up not only prepares you but gives you a huuge advantage.
These guys aren’t just doing this for work, they genuinely care about their candidate’s success.
They go above and beyond in training, but also make it a good time which I’ll look back on very fondly for the rest of my career. Marcel isn’t just a fantastic teacher and role model, he’s also a legend;)

I decided one day to go to Thailand for two months, eventually I decided on the island of Koh Tao to further my scuba diving training. I did both my divemaster and IDC courses with Sairee Cottage and let me just say, wow, what an experience. Marcel and Flav are extremely knowledgeable instructors who know how to teach in seriousness but also know how to have some fun doing it. Our staff instructor Bo was also a great help and a great look into the future. They all made sure I completed all the necessary requirements in whatever time frame I wanted so I could enjoy as much diving as I wanted as well. The IE was a breeze with the preparation that I was given here and the included lodging in the pro house was both a great bonding experience with all my fellow trainees and an added bonus to working with such a great resort. Can’t wait to come back one day and cash in on that discounted diving and hopefully see some of my new friends I left behind! Amazing experience!

I just finished my IDC course with Sairee cottage and i cant be more happier that i chose to do it with them. At the start of the course I was nervous about everything, but both Marcel and Julian made sure that we were all properly prepared for the final exam. Everyone at Sairee Cottage was very professional, and when the time for the exam came, my whole group passed everything without any problems. I cant recommend Marcel and Sairee Cottage enough. Definitely one of the best places to do your IDC

Just finished staying at Sairee Cottage whilst doing my Padi Scuba Diving Instructor Course and it was so lovely. The facilities were great and all the staff were so helpful and wonderful. Highly recommend you do a diving course if you stay here!
If you're thinking about doing your Instructors Course, here is the place to do it with Marcel! He makes the whole course fun, interactive and teaches you how to be a 'superstar instructor' for when the course is over (which is the most important part). He has an amazing team of helpers who all gave up hours to help us after class hours had finished. Marcel really goes above and beyond to help you become the best instructor you can be, can't stress enough how worthwhile doing the course at Sairee cottage is!

I recently completed my Divemaster, IDC and MSDT at Sairee cottage and for anyone who is on the fence about completing a course here I couldn’t recommend Sairee Cottage enough. The Course Director Marcel is amazing along with everyone else that helped me complete the course including Julian, Hannah, Martin and Flav. Doing my IDC with Marcel at Sairee Cottage Diving was the best choice I could have ever made! From the very start, Marcel was available to answer any questions I had. The course itself did not cut any corners, but we covered everything that had to be covered and more! Marcel, as well as the amazing people that helped in during the course, like Julian and Martin, pushed us, prepared us, until there were no doubts that all of us would ace the IE. I did my IDC & MSDT training with platinum course director Marcel Van Den Berg and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a place to do it.
Marcel Van Den Berg Julián Picco and Joe Manchester were all amazing in not only preparing us for the IE but also for everything that will happen after the examination. The knowledge and years of experience that they passed on us made it really worth the price of the course. The IDC was made in a way that was super professional and made us feel very confident when the time of the examination came. But it was also really fun and possitive experience.

I did my Dive master, IDC and MSDT from Sairee Cottage Diving from Dec 2022 to Mar 2023. The entire experience was life changing and opened up new perspectives on diving. To start with, Flav during the dive master course had the perfect blend of theory, practical and life stories to make the course work very engaging. Well structured weekly schedule meant you could plan your entire week in advance and pick the classes you want to attend. He also has a very practical way of teaching which makes the entire course fun and engaging.
With the IDC and MSDT - we had a very passionate course director in Marcel with his team of Julian, Rory and Matt who were the perfect mentors to navigate the entire IDC and IE examination prep work. They go above and beyond standards in terms of curriculum. This was probably a blessing in disguise because it gives you a roadmap for being a great instructor. The IDC classes and workshops are very detailed and thorough which prepares you well for all the exam scenarios you will face in your IE. The individual attention to your personal weak areas is an added bonus. They will stay up late in the evening to be with you and help you get ready for the exams. The career and job search workshop is also very practical where they share their best practices to stand out as a star instructors.
The infrastructure is quite good as well, with dedicated dive boats for the divemaster and IDC candidates. The swimming pool, classrooms, diving gear room is well equipped for you to enjoy the facilities all through your stay.
Finally it would be unfair if I do not call out how the IDC team goes all out to create great events regularly to unwind. Their long tail boat parties, Snorkel tests, IDC graduation parties, Movie nights, Special Night dives and Eco day are a big hit among students.
If you are thinking IDC anywhere in the world, I would strongly recommend Sairee Cottage IDC program for its world class quality and experience. You will not regret it and probably would come out as a star instructor.

I did my IDC & MSDT training at Sairee Cottage Diving with Platinum Course Director Marcel Van Den Berg and I couldn't have made a better decision.
The experience I had at Sairee was unbelievable; I learned so much in the short time that I was there, and I made amazing memories. The knowledge and expertise of Marcel and the whole staff are not only outstanding, but they manage to share it with you in such a fun and relaxed way.
I was definitely concerned before starting my IDC as it was a very big step for me, and I had heard about how difficult it can be. Marcel took that stress away. By the end of the IDC all of us were completely over prepared for the IE and I knew there was no way I was going to fail it (and trust me I am someone who over-thinks and over-worries about everything).
Of course all of the perks (dorm, lunch, equipment, etc,) that are included in the price of the IDC already make it one of the best options to choose from. But honestly even if that wasn't the case I would still urge people to come do your training at Sairee Cottage Diving so you can experience it all for yourself. I promise you you won't be disappointed.
Thanks again Marcel, Julian, Joe, and everyone who did the IDC with me. You've been absolutely amazing, and my IDC will be a time I will always cherish 🙂

A year ago i quit my office job and jump into nowhere to find myself in something new. One of my hobbies was diving so i decide to go pro from zero to hero. After i get aome experience working as a divemaster i decide that it's time for IDC. It took me a lot of time and effort to decide where/with who i'm gonna do it, but afterall i choose Sairee cottage)
And that was perfect decision! The atmosphere, people, conditions, schedule - everything was on top level. My expectations was waay less.
Marcel is a legend. He knows how to keep people attention and what you need to do to pass these exams.
Special thanks to Julian - you are the master of teaching. Always ready to help and give an advice which is very important.
This duo really changes the industry and they will definitely make a superstar instructor from anyone.

March 2022 IDC/MSDT was absolutely amazing. Marcel and all the team at Sairee Cottage fully prepared us for the IE and went up and beyond any expectations, I had with the high standards and incomparable degree of excellence I experienced. I came to Koh Tao in May 2022 to do my Divemaster, IDC and MSDT with Marcel van den Berg at Sairee Cottage Diving. I’ve known his amazing and very helpful online content for a long time, such as his awesome RUclips skill circuit videos or his website, and I was hoping to be joining one of the best DM and IDC programmes in the world.
I was not disappointed! The 2-3 months that I spent with Sairee Cottage Diving and Marcel van den Berg were an absolute blast. Marcel is a fantastic instructor with tons of experience, and his way of preparing you for the job, not only for the exam, is unique. The classes are perfectly structured, interesting and actually a lot of fun. Marcel goes far beyond the requirements for the IDC, integrating countless real-life scenarios into his teaching. He genuinely cares for his students and is always willing to help. Of course, the whole group with great people from all over the world passed the IE without any stress, and we felt perfectly prepared long before the actual examination. But the best thing is that we were not primarily preparing for the IE, but for a successful career as a scuba diving instructor. The whole group loved that way of learning - and we are leaving as friends, some even as future colleagues. After the IDC and MSDT, I felt very well prepared for jumping into a first job as a diving instructor.
By the way, the whole team as well as facilities at Sairee Cottage Diving are great. I had an amazing time and wonderful dives with them both during my Divemaster and IDC time, and will surely be back in the future. The divemaster programme is extremely flexible and includes ample time for fun diving, while preparing you very well for your first professional role in the diving industry.
So, if you want to become a divemaster or scuba instructor, I would highly recommend Marcel and Sairee Cottage Diving.

Zero to Hero (A True Story) - So, back in December 2021, I decided to begin my career as a Scuba Dive Professional whilst sitting in my room dreaming of a path, less worn out by my peers. After some thorough research online and talking to some friends who had trained at Sairee Cottage Diving, there was no doubt in my mind that Marcel Van Den Berg was the person I needed to guide me towards making my day-dreams a reality. As I got in touch with him via email, the picture of travelling to a distant island called Koh Tao all the way from Bombay became distinctly clearer. I reached here and checked into the Go-Pro rooms, where I met the most fantastic bunch of people whom I'm lucky enough to now call my friends. My first Instructor at Sairee Cottage was Isabelle Levy, who went above and beyond to make sure I got the right skills to become a confident Diver. After that, I met my Divemaster Mentor, Nicolas 'Flav' Sleutelaar, a Dutch diving legend. My time under him as a Divemaster Trainee goes beyond the boundaries of this review. His knowledge and command over Diving, Art, Cinema and everything else under the Sun is unparalleled. As I completed my final task towards completing my Divemaster training, i.e., the legendary 'snorkel test', I was finally ready to be trained by the one who was the reason I came to Sairee Cottage, which is of course, Marcel. My IDC and IE went by like a flash as Marcel, ably assisted by Julian, trained us in a fashion wherein the PADI exams felt like a mere formality. Within a period of 6 months, I went from an Open Water Student all the way to a Master Scuba Diver Trainer. I must mention the motivation and pearls of wisdom Baz gave me throughout my training time. The ever smiling faces of Bear and Denja in the Dive shop along with their epic playlists always going on in the background would make a bad day turn all the way upside-down. Perry is a true master of his craft, and I still have so much to learn from everyone involved in the Dive-Training program. The support staff at Sairee Cottage is phenomenal. Their two boats have an intangible charm you can experience only once you set sail upon them. The pool bar, the crazy longtail parties, Songkram madness, George's insatiable need for belly rubs, the laughter...I could go on forever. My review just refers to the IDC course I took in December with my girlfriend with the course director Marcel.
MONEY: speaking about what most people is concern, this course had the best advantage cost/benefit we’ve found all around the globe (we asked information at around 15 dive centers in 3 different continents), and was the longest we’ve found; in the price they gave us 10 dives, free lunch and free accomodation, nobody got even close to this offer for that price.
COURSE: The course is made in a such great way and length that we had time to master every single skill from OWC to RESCUE, we had a lot of time to self-study (with the help of Julian or Joe if needed) and we learned a lot in every single lesson, from simple standards, to teaching strategies to finding job best recommendations. The total length allowed us even to take days off for diving or just relax.
MARCEL: The person is going to teach you is the most professional we’ve ever encountered, as soon as we sent the first email to ask information we got impressed on how every single detail was covered in his answer (travel tips, insurance, airport advice, Etc…etc…); we paid for 1 course we got the service of a travel agency (try to send an email to believe it). The lessons he made were funny and serious at the same time and he was always available to clarify every single doubt we had.
EXPERIENCE: it’s been an amazing month for us, we come to become instructors with many doubts and investing a lot of money but after all we could never have made a better choice. The IE went really smoothly after the big learning process.

Where should I begin? 🥹 I may not be as good a storyteller as Marcel, but I'm gonna give it a try. I started my IDC in February, but unfortunately had to drop out after a week due to an injury (not diving-related!). However, I restarted the IDC in June, once again with Marcel. Marcel is not only an exceptional storyteller, but also an incredible teacher who has remarkable patience. It's evident that he possesses an extensive amount of experience in the diving industry, which he loves to share with his students.
The entire team at Sairee will quickly become your friends and family. Julian, who also assists with teaching during the IDC, does an outstanding job! Marcel and Julian make an unbeatable team. If you choose to do your IDC with Marcel and Julian, rest assured that you will become a very professional and confident instructor. It's hard for me to imagine any other place doing a better job. If you encounter any difficulties, they will invest one-on-one time with you, until you understand. They genuinely care about their students and will always have your back, no matter what challenges arise.
During and after the IDC, Marcel and Julian go above and beyond by organizing cinema trips and various other small events for everyone in the Sairee Cottage area. The DMC's (Diving Master Candidates) also join in on these events, creating opportunities to forge lasting friendships. Marcel and Julian aren't just focused on the necessary aspects of the course; it's evident that they have a genuine passion for what they do. The amount of time they dedicate to teaching and caring for their students is truly remarkable.
I'll never forget my first IDC experience when I had a non-diving-related injury. Just minutes after reaching the hospital, Marcel arrived to help me out. A few days later, Julian also visited me at the hospital in Samui. Their unwavering support and guidance continue to amaze me, and I'm so grateful for everything they've done for me and, of course, everything they've taught me.
If you're thinking about doing your IDC with Marcel, don’t think twice. If I could change anything, I would have chosen Koh Tao and enrolled in Marcel and Julian's IDC much earlier than I did.

I came to Sairee Cottage to do the IDC and
MSDT in January 2023. The facilities and location are amazing - everything you could dream of and more! This allowed the scheduling to run smoothly and efficiently, along with help of the boat crew who are awesome!
Marcel and Julian are very encouraging and knowledgeable. They created a supportive atmosphere throughout and prepared us extremely well for a successful lE.
