    You won’t win any races with the Crosstrek, that’s for sure. I’ve owned far more powerful cars but you don’t buy this car for power, you buy it for functionality and the thriftiness... More people need to realize this when commenting. I’ve had my 2014 Crosstrek a good while now and I don’t find the power to be too bad. It gets me everywhere I need to go and I consistently achieve 29-31 mpg. Even with going on roads to various hiking, biking, and kayaking spots.

    • @bobohara3974
      @bobohara3974 6 лет назад +1

      "Functionality" includes power as a determining factor. This car is not functional because of the insane lack of power. Go drive the Crosstrek at 8000',,,, OMG it's horrendous. If you have to pull out onto a grade and get into traffic you will need no oncoming cars for at least a mile, and once you hit 50 mph they will be squarely on your tail. Yep that's functional!

      I live in tahoe and we are at 8,000 elevation. The crosstrek drives fine, although acceleration is not the best i have gotten use to it. Handles snow and corners really well compared to my audi q5

      I agree but its the CVT that makes it slow off the line. The manual is significantly faster. The CVT is just slow due to the design and programming for fuel economy but perfectly adequate for the every day driving.

    If you want more power buy a sport car. If you want great gas mileage and go anywhere then this is a excellent crossover. Have a 2018 Crosstrek Limited loaded and it is great the snowy winter's we get in the north east. So if speed and power is important too you then don't buy a Crosstrek and shut your mouths and keep your stupid comments too yourselves.

    I don't understand why Subaru does not offer an engine upgrade option for this vehicle. Heck, the 2.5 from the Legacy would improve this vehicle. Just saying.

    • @teesimpson3872
      @teesimpson3872 5 лет назад +1

      canonlybeme4life I agree that the 2.5 would liven up the Crosstrek. My 2019 Crosstrek is getting a service done, and my loaner is a 2019 Legacy. Talk about a peppy engine for only being a half liter bigger! I’m jealous, but I didn’t buy my car for its engine performance. I bought it for a whole lot of reasons that made me look past the engine. If I want a bit of speed/passing power, I can just switch the CVT into manual, leave it in 3rd or 4th gear, and keep an eye on the tachometer. I’m sure Subaru did it’s homework, but who knows, maybe in a year or two they’ll offer more power. For now though, I think they’re satisfied with sales numbers for the current HP offering.

    Got my Crosstrek in June and I could not be happier. The car is solid. It handles great. The only problem is that between approximately 18 and 23 mph it is a little jerky, like it cannot decide whether to "upshift" or not. If you use the paddles, it's smooth. Part of the issue is I am a slow and easy accelerator. If I stomped it, you'd likely not notice. I have read from many sources that this is known and a "negative" feature of the CVT. Some people have said it improves with time. So I will wait for my comp oil change at six months. I am already used to it. So, as long as it is not really a mechanical problem, I'll live with it. Maybe it is a software programming thing they will correct in the future.
    Regardless, I became interested (prior I was committed to getting an Escape) when I learned of their new Global Platform. It improves crash worthiness by something like 40% and so it does have a high safety rating. I like it so much that I find myself looking at other drivers and wondering how they could not have bought a Subaru. Oh well, I am just enthusiastic about this car. I look forward to many years of driving it.
    Oh yeah, the comments about low power are accurate. But it is fine for pulling out of a side street onto the main drag and getting up to speed quickly enough. When I need to merge into the 65+ mph on the Garden State Parkway. It is adequate but you do need to go heavy on the gas. But it is fine once you get up to cruising speed and want to pass that slow poke ahead of you.
    Lastly, it takes a bit of getting used to the Eyesight navigation system. Maybe it's just because I've never had any of that stuff before. But it is one of the safety reasons I got the car.

    • @jmen8888
      @jmen8888 6 лет назад

      The more miles you put on it, the jerky feeling should go away. I had that issue last year within the first few thousand miles. I got my 18 Crosstrek in August of 17. Have about 13,500 miles on it. This review was good but not accurate according to gas mileage when you have to drive up hills or small mountains daily. I average around 25 mpg going back and forth to work. I didn't like the fact that you couldn't turn off the radio, but with an infotainment update I got in August 18 I can now turn off the radio. With just me and the wife, power is fine but if I have the two kids in back loaded with gear, definitely under powered, luckily that doesn't happen too often.

    • @tpolerex7282
      @tpolerex7282 5 лет назад

      I would just put a little more angle into the accelerator- not floor it, just get into it enough to get the car to respond. You are not getting better gas mileage by lengthening the time it takes to get to cruising speed and a high “gear” ratio where the vehicle is most efficient, just let the CVT do what it’s designed to do.

      Mazda has come a long way and make good cars. Yet, your right, they don't have the resale value that you get with the Subaru's. 97% of Subaru's still on the road after ten years is proof you can't go wrong with a Subaru. After ownership of 4 yrs and 80,000kms versus the CX-3 and the Crosstrek, you'll get at least $1,000 more for the Crosstrek. The 2013 Crosstrek had the best resale value of any vehicle in its class.

Looking to keep it at least ten years. Does everything I need. We have speed limits, we dont have extremes of altitude here so the power is more than adequate. Steering ratio is same as the BRZ, power is more than the base Civic, HRV, which is so sluggish and much slower, more than the CX-3, this is quick off the mark. The CVT is the best way to go and probably the best in the business, at least if not better than Honda. More power than base Kona. Yeah, everyone wants a turbo. Small turbos have been documented as not reliable.

    Had a top of the line XV new 2018 for about 3 months now and the best thing about it is the whole package imparts a refreshing relaxing outcome of a drive whether it be city, country or highway cycles in all weather and terrains.Subaru is pretty smart.Want more power go the bigger engine in the Forrester and fork out the extra mooolah.You can get a bigger engine(more grunt)but not with wishful wanna be thinking.CVT-I didn't know what it was even when I bought my XV but I know I never ever wanted a bullshit manual (whatever the brand)ever again and there's nothing I can fault with a CVT even after 25000 km.My colleagues had a play around with my vehicle and all were impressed and more so the partners because in the past few months 3 units of various XV models have been purchased,so Go Girls!.I think that says a lot, in that brute force is not necessarily the be all and and all of what should be in the vehicle package.yeah pretty colours also help too.

    I looked into and test drove the Crosstrek (XV here in Australia), Mazda CX3, Mazda CX-5 and the Hyundai Kona. I bought the Crosstrek with CVT because of the quality and size of the interior, it's economy, driving position, steering and handling and the Eyesight safety system which operates the excellent adaptive cruise control. Sure it doesn't have the power of the CX-5 or the zippiness of the Kona but it has adequate acceleration for city/suburban driving and highway cruising (we have a 110km/hr speed limit here and the XV/Crosstrek will easily sit on that speed with four passengers and climb pretty steep inclines for as long as you need it to) and I'm getting 6-7L/100km around town and 5-6L/100km on freeways. Gotta be happy with that.

    Kona offers A LOT more power with its available 1.6T, 175hp/196trq without a CVT 😉. You get either the 2.0 with a 6spd standard transmission or 1.6T with 7spd DCT. It also has a center locking diff in AWD models.
    I like both but the Kona does offer a more spirited, engaging drive. Couple that with the best warranty in the business, quality award from JD power plus better reliablity scores from Consumer Reports and you cant go wrong.

      JD Power ratings aren't things to brag about these days. Kind of a joke, if you ask me. I'd say this Crosstrek looks better than the Kona, has actual proven long term reliability that could do circles around Hyundai, and Subaru knows what they are doing with AWD for inclement weather and light off roading at this point. So for my money, I wouldn't be at a Hyundai dealership in your comparison.

    Its 23city\33hwy and 29mix from a book. Getting 31mph from mine in a mix mode with my husband (who is a good driver) and me (who probably not always makes a wise fuel economy decisions). Absolutely happy with a car. As someone mention earlier, its sturdy and make exactly the move that you want it to make.

    Unless you're used to driving a Model T or a horse & buggy, the Crosstrek is insanely under-powered ESPECIALLY at anything other than sea level. They should be made illegal at elevations above 5000', this car will get you in huge trouble. You can't pull out into traffic without horns blowing and people showing you your IQ. Takes more runway to get up to speed than an over loaded 747 with flat tires! Nice car for the money otherwise but I would never buy another naturally aspirated 4 cylinder Subaru again.

      Drove my Crosstrek from Wisconsin to California. Went through the mountains. Was scared of being underpowered because of negative reviews regarding the Crosstrek power but had no trouble. No problems passing either. The engine and CVT work very well together giving you power when you need it. Drive a Crosstrek before you judge it.

      @@nursejeff58 Thanks for the laugh on this Monday morning. You must have meant this comment for someone else or your reading comprehension is lacking. I own the Crosstrek and it lives between 5,000 and 10,000' in elevation. Any car can pass given enough distance. Crossing the Rockies at 70 mph is hardly a way to judge the Crosstrek. However if you were paying attention you would have noticed at least half throttle on level ground with the CVT constantly hunting to keep the speed, and literally full throttle going up grades, all the while that poor gutless engine screaming. If you think this is acceptable bless your heart because clearly your previous car was a Model T.

      Bob OHara sounds like you’re the dummy in the room for not test driving a car and discovering the power deficit before purchase. 🤔

      Sounds like a cvt programming issue. Manual. Solved for $1500 less.
