Just had a snow storm last night, drove through 2 feet of snow to get out of my driveway with my 2015 XV. Neighbours were watching, I bet they were hoping that I get stuck. Sure it's not a fast car, but I needed a regular car that's AWD and jacked up to get me through our long snowy winters up North.
Watching this video only thinking about AWD and snow coming in January. Last year had a terrible experience with my Corolla and desperately looking for an upgrade before December.
@@aGuyWhoPatsDogs that was my concern is the snow. I moved out to no man's land and the snow can be a pain. Im currently trying to decide if I want to go the Jeep Compass route or the Crosstrek.
@@Saxie81 I've never driven a Jeep Compass, but I will say I blow past them, Wranglers, 4runners, and almost everything on my way to work in snow storms. I won't sit here and tell you a Crosstrek will beat any of those in a serious offroad trail, but I 100% believe it's better on snow covered roads and hard packed dirt roads.
We bought the 19 Crosstrek for my wife last year, and it’s fantastic! You’re spot on with your review and I agree with you about the excessive number of buttons, not my thing either. After driving it for close to a year the only fault I found was the stock all-season tires aren’t enough for my hilly, snowy area. They’re perfect with most conditions but an AT upgrade will happen before Fall this year. I’m 6’4 and have no problems with seating or leg room... however, my wife wants the Forester now. So I’ll gladly keep the Crosstrek and she’ll get the Forester. We do no off-road travel but this vehicle can go anywhere during any weather.
If you don't have a family or large dog I would go with a Crosstrek. It's so much different from the rest of Subarus line up. It looks sporty and has the more interesting colors. I hope Subie figures out they can attractive younger buyers and they're designs don't have to be so safe all the time. I do wish the Crosstrek has 170-180 HP. That would really be better. I like the new Forester it's an evolution of the design which again is just conservative.
Totally agree... with the philosophy of having big windows (because is "safer") the XV doesn't really have massive windows, still pretty good in terms of light interior and visibility, but it looks so good!
I switched from the 2017Forester to 2019 Crosstrek to give me more room in a small garage. I love how both drive but what I HATE about the Crosstrek is that they do not have a power lift gate for the trunk, even on their most expensive model. And even though I saw hundreds of complaints from short people that they could not reach the top of the trunk to close it manually, Subaru still failed to add it as an option on their Crosstrek 2020 model. I use a rope on the trunk, but that always gets caught in the lock and, I am ready to find a new car with a lift gate even though I'll be taking a serious loss on my Crosstrek. If you're short - do not buy a Crosstrek unless you want to be angry every time you need to open and close the trunk.
Got a brand new 2019 Crosstrek Limited this week. Love it so far. Can be a bit slow on the high end but can kick in lower gears. Great ride, great options. Sound system is also tops.
@@RaitisRides Can you review the new 2020 Ford Transit Connect with its multiple engine options? Its getting the same 2.0L twin turbo diesel engine that the international Ranger Raptor has been using for a while.
Love both. We have a 2018 Impreza. If you don't need the ground clearance & bigger tires, you can save $2K with the Impreza versus Crosstrek. Just saying.
Thanks for mentioning the seat length. We have the opposite problem, being short people. And most reviewers never consider how things are for short people, only tall people. In some brands the seat bottom is too long and uncomfortable if you have shorter legs. Anyway, that was helpful that you talked about it because now I know the seat will be ok for us. Ideally, in the future, maybe cars could have adjustable seat bottoms.
I have the 2018 Limited edition crosstrek and it does come with a dual climate control. I’m 5’2” and the seats are great. The Canadian ones come with heated steering wheel.
We test drove a 2019 RAV4 last week and the first thing my 5'3" 110lb wife said was "these seats are too short". The RAV4 interior (especially doors) felt like cheap plastic. Subaru's were nicer and the "under powered" comment is overblown after driving the Crosstrek and Outback. I like the ride of the Outback and Crosstrek better than the RAV4 but just saw a dark grey Forester Sport (with orange highlights) and it was very stylish - sort of Range-Roverish. We will try one this weekend. FYI - The Outback seems best for me (towing capacity, ride, height and length for our long kayak, storage with seats up, price after current incentives) but is a wagon and the redesigned 2020 with global platform is only 6 months away.
Joe, I need to mention something a lot of people are not aware of. The passenger seat in the Forester does not accommodate people of small stature. Anyone small of frame sitting in the passenger seat will find their feet will not touch the floor, making extended rides extremely uncomfortable, as there is no way to lift the weight of the lower legs off the knee joints. There is no adjustment or option from Subaru that will change the condition. It's not like the Japanese people are a large framed race, so this leaves us puzzled. The seating position in the XV passenger seat is fine. We own a 2013 XV Limited and have loved it, but my wife wants a bigger boot and more room for hauling stuff. She thought she wanted a new Forester Limited. We went in intending to make a purchase right then and there. That all ended when we switched drivers on the test drive and she sat in the passenger seat. She looked for the lever that would lower the seat bottom, as is present for the driver's seat, but there isn't one. Quite the blunder from Subaru. Ergonomics in cars is important, because we spend so much time in them. The front passenger is not a second class citizen when he or she may be the one paying over $30k for the ride. There is quite the jump in cost for an Outback Limited, so we are researching seating in other vehicles similar to the Forester. The AWD Honda CR-V is accommodating to front passengers of small stature and the mpg is almost the same or a little better, near top mpg performance. We plan to inspect the new AWD RAV4. What good is a vehicle if one can't sit in it comfortably?
I really appreciate you taking the time to point out to everyone this issue about the seats. That is really great of you to bring up. My wife and I were talking about the same issue. Try the Rav4 and see how it goes.
@@RaitisRides Just trying to make most purchasers wake up for the person to their right. It's sad that Subaru doesn't care. They are great cars, but this borders on discrimination.
As a younger guy with no kids. I really have loved my 19 Limited Crosstrek. Its very comfortable, has a great sound system, great Apple car play, remote start from phone, and amazing in Snow. I wish it had a bit more power but id say the same if I had a forester. It has a more sporty fun look than the forester in my opinion and I really hate the rear lights on the forester. Cant wait to see the 2021 WRX though
Joe the Crosstrek, Forester and Outback all have 8.7 inches of ground clearance. I have an '18 Crosstrek and love it. If you need more room for people and gear then Forester other wise the Crosstrek is lighter and sporty so more fun to drive.
Well because of you and the past videos of Subaru's , I'm seriously considering a new Forester sport, if i can just get past the Horrible dealers near me. That aside I'm super impressed with Forester , just the LACK of XT model pisses me off. Still won't stop me from buying one though. So much value for the money.
Doug T I just bought the forester sport. Really love it and recommend it. Originally was going to get the crosstreck but for the little price difference the sport is awesome and has the better xmode if you live in a wintery place
Doug T I'm in the exact same boat as you. If you have a Costco membership (or know anyone who does), you can get a discounted price and don't have to deal with the haggling and B.S. that dealers put you through. Costco partners up with certain dealers, and they have to honor the price that Costco sets for each vehicle. I'm hoping to get out to the dealer this week to take one for test drive. Good luck.
@@LeafwortThumbfloggin it's not about the price. I've got great pricing from most dealers. I find most Subaru dealers almost detestable They're attitude has me boggled, they are truly are a different bunch of people . That and we can't get together in on the trade every dealer is at least 3k less than what the Honda dealers will give. The way it looks I'm going to buy a New Accord 2.0T this week. I want the forester but I won't take that kind of financial hit.
I'M GONNA GET THE 2019 RAV4 ADVENTURE AFTER YOU DO THE VIDEO FOR ME MY MAN! DID SOME RESEARCH AND SPOKE TO OTHERS WHO HAD SUBARU'S........THEY JUST AREN'T REALIBLE LIKE THE TOYOTA'S!
Bought my 2013 Crystal Black Silica XV Crosstrek in Los Angeles in Jan 2014 prior to moving to the MidWest. Best automotive choice I’ve made, especially during the Winter... and still goin’ strong, yo!
Traded in a 2016 Crosstrek for a 2019 Crosstrek. Originally thought about a Forester but my 5 foot 90 lb wife couldn't get comfortable when test driving it, When I took the 2019 Crosstrek in for service , they gave me a Forester as a loaner.Handling was totally different. I felt I was all over the road in the Forester compared to my Crosstrek.
Had a 2019 Crosstrek loved and it was the base model but had alot features standard. Use it as a daily to work 220 miles a day. Construction life lol. It gave me impressive mileage. I got 35 to 36 mpg on the freeway. Full tank got me 2 days back and forth plus a quarter left. Eye sight helps alot especially when you're driving long and your falling asleep car corrects you and warns you. The adapted cruise control is awesome and save you form accident. But sadly got rear ended hard in a stop sign and it did its job save my life. Now wounded if I should get the Forester and would I get the same mpg.
As these vehicles are being used more often for sleeping in, would be great to show that the seats to now lie down nice and flat like other vehicles - and no raiser to adjust that floor either.
My wife trades cars like most people change socks...if they increase HP in crosstrek she will be fist in line to trade. She traded a Honda with a V6 and 110k miles. But she was working ...now retired only local driving...no Hiway...but said she didn't miss the power in the Crosstrek...ill keep you informed on her and daughters review in the future....Subaru stock is climbing ...and the forester and crosstrek are two reasons why
Hello Joe, I'm enjoying your thoughtful inside on the Subaru brand for about 3 weeks now, I also subscribed to your channel, based on what I like And bang for my buck, I'm going with the 2020 Forester Sport with the Harman Kardon audio system, beautiful utilitarian dependable SUV, many thanks.
Hi Riccardo! Thank you so much for reaching out! I really appreciate you letting me share my passion for cars with you! Congrats on your decision to go with the Forester! You will love it!
I have the new Forester Sport and love it. We also get a ton of people asking about it and admiring it. As much as reviewers tend to point out how boxy it is, no one really seems to care.
I like the Crosstreck. I considered the Crosstrek before my Eclipse Cross. I love the look inside and out of the Crosstrek and they are reliable. In the end went with Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL with Touring Package and SAWC because of the more features like heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, sliding reclining rear seats, dual pano roof, adjustable led headlights, power folding mirrors, rain sensing wipers, 710 watt 9 speaker rockford fosgate audio system, dual zone climate control, 360 display camera with steering wheel buttons and view change, heads up display, mitsubishi connect, reliability (have owned 5 Mitsubishis) and more. Now the Subie gets better fuel econemy for sure but the Mitsu was far quicker and more peppy. Even though the horsepower is like the same between the two the Mitsu has a turbo and like 36 more ft lbs of torque and it makes a difference. Both CVTs were ery similar and are quite refined and fake step shift nicely. The Eclipse Cross was quieter while cruising and at highway speed but the Subie had a better in town ride over bumps than my Eclipse Cross. One other thing that sealed the deal was my top trim loaded Eclipse Cross was close to $33,000.00 with options and accessories but with discounts and rebates I got it for under $26,000.00 which was close to $7,000.00 off! Could not beat it and the 10/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Point is they are both neat and unique looking compact crossovers that comes down to content and personal styling choice. I think both look awesome and both are nice vehicles!
2:51 I think if you realize this bumper cover is also used on the Sport trim. On the Sport trim, the fog lights are vertical and take up more space in that direction. So I think the answer is this is a shared area for all trim levels and they needed to design that into it. I'd buy the Forester over the Trek for sure.
I’m actually very happy with the CVT on my Crosstrek. I would rather them get rid of the paddle shifters and replace it with back vents, back and front USBs and a 110v plug-in in the trunk area.
Both of them are great cars. As long as you guys do maintenance, put the car on right handling & though Subaru does not have great design like competitors, they are amazingly functional cars in highway and light to medium off roads.
I love my crosstrek however the 2 liter engine is a joke. With the small weight differences between the two models that means that the forester with the 2.5 liter engine has a larger power to weight ratio with only a 1-2 mpg deficit. As a single guy with no dogs I still wish I got a forester. You get more bang for you buck with the forester. You get more cargo room, more confidence on the highway and off road, you have the same ground clearance, a 50-50 front to rear split compared to the automatic crosstrek's 60-40. Also in the trunk of the forest you don't have that annoying bump that crosstrek has. Also the side light in the crosstrek trunk is just poor judgement on their part. For a car meant to have things in the back why put the light source in a place that is guaranteed to be covered up. It's sad to see that untouched in the new generation. 100% agree on your statement about needing a turbo in both.
just looking at the front bumper cover on the Crosstrek I'm 99% positive the reason the ABS plastic doesn't go from the bottom of the bumper all the way to the fender flare has to do with brake cooling. It leaves a channel for the air to get right next to the wheel to be sucked through the brakes.
Excellent comparison, Joe! I originally wanted the Forester Premium, but at the time, no local dealer had that particular trim level in stock, so I went with the 2019 Forester 2.5i (Base) model. It has everything I needed in the Premium trim, except for the drivers seat Lumbar Support control. Seems like Subaru offers a bit more in their "base" trims than some other SUV brands.
I sold Subaru for a short time back in 2016. I loved the cars. Comment about the turbo Forester not selling. It was my first sale. Nice car. All of the base Subaru’s had adequate power the 3.6 seemed a to be a little better but not needed unless you really needed it and I wouldn’t want to tow with a Subaru anyway. Oh I sold my bother and his daughter on Subaru’s -they didn’t buy from me my dealership was in TX they were in NY.
SNIPEZZ 07 Dude you know what’s what, I drive an 01’ Forester S (Red W/ Gold wheels) and it so much fun to drive! It handles well and is extremely capable in the snow.
Thanks for this comparison! I definitely like the Crosstrek better! It has better fuel economy than the Forester and I prefer to manually close the back hatch, rather than the push-button. I just wish the Crosstrek had more USB ports!
the little extra wide rear seats will allow the 3 bumber seats fit just right. Safety for our grandkids comes first. Nice video, I do wish they would bring back some yellow on the rear lights. Telling my age. It just looks be
Somebody commented that they don't consider the crosstrek a SUV. I wanted the AWD on the sedan but just to small for traveling--purchased the crosstrek premium trim and absolutely love. I thought it was a happy medium between the forester and the sedan!!
Excellent comparison video Joe! I really like the Crosstrek and considered buying one but ended up getting a 2019 Outback with the 3.6 engine and I think it's a fantastic vehicle. Whenever you have a Subaru video my ears perk up!
Sorry the seat is slightly short for tall people, but the rest of us, who are 5'9'' or less, would not be able to sit back at all if it was longer. It's good length, taller people can surely ride comfortably too, or get an insert.
Thanks for the video. Am cross shopping either the 2019 CX5, forester or xv. But in the Phil., all 3 vehicles have 2.0 liter engines. I like the XV and CX5 for looks, the forester for space, seats, convenience, safety features, and the CX5 for handling and the 6-speed auto trans., premium-ness. I really value safety, and when I read about the eyesight system was impressed by the Subie. Having AWD is not essential but may come in handy. Of the xv or forester, do they need premium gas? It may come down to dealer service. Mazda is throwing in first 60,000 kms service and parts, liquids free during PMS, among other things. Have owned a Crv, rav4, Rogue before but never a Subie. Am hoping to hear from Subie owners on their ownership experience.
Regular gas. Loving my 18 Crosstrek 18000 miles so far. I owned a Honda Civic si before this, won driver of the year in my class two years in a row with it racing autocross with my club. I have raced autocross for almost 30 years, and switching to this car has not disappointed me, certainly not wrx power, but it has all the power I need. When you get hard enough on the gas, the cvt gives you just the right ratio, to get the revs where you want them. Half throttle brings you 3500 rpm shifts, 3/4 gets you 4500 rpm, 95% to full throttle gets you 6000 rpm shifts.
You never appreciate having Symetrical AWD untill you actually get in a Subaru car. The Forester would be my choise in the future. It was designed for offroad purposes. The clearance and the AWD just five you so much confidence driving. CVT may sound disgusting but i gotta give credits to Subaru. Subaru did a lot of research before they started making the CVT ( Belts, Fluids etc.) If you read the owners manual for proper usage of the transmission you wont have problems with it. The crosstrek seems a bit small to me. Now for the final part. When you buy a Subaru you dont just buy a vehicle, you buy a key to a whole family. The Subie family. I can't express the feeling of being in a Subaru meet. I have a 1st gen foz and i regularly go on small offroad trips with the local Subie group. Ive made so much new friends. Hope this concludes it for you!
Didn’t mention the optional six speed manual on the Crosstrek! Sounds like Subaru is putting the 2.5 in the Crosstrek for 2021 which would be nice too!

First off, the 3.6R engine or the 2.5 turbo should have been in the Forester. It is more of a car for the money, with firm new chassis and more room overall. Definitely noticeable for the driver. The premium sound will sound better with more space too, and the HK does sound amazing! However, they both have the same shitty engine and the same non-sport-tuned CVT. That front end of the Crosstek looks stunning and I agree the back tail lights are much nicer on the Crosstek too. The black looks fantastic on both, I am shocked how slick the Forester looks. The ugly Subaru green vs this black is like not even the same car. Would not get either with the current engine. Since the 2020 Legacy gets the turbo, we will see Forester XT in the future- I’ll lease or buy it then. It won’t happen but a 3.6R would be a way to go for me since it take regular gas whereas the Turbo takes premium.
A difference between the forester and crosstrek that he didn't mention was the upgraded sound system. The sound in the crosstrek is mainly for the front passengers, which sounds great but lacks in the rear seats. Forester, the sound is pretty equal for the front and the rear passengers.
Both were based on the impreza Xv was a replacement for impreza outback sport Forester was originally based on impreza (98-06) it was also a wagon then, not an SUV

@@MidwestDankAlumni not false. I've seen it when I buy parts and at the parts store. Listed as an suv. We can argue it all ya want but I know what I see
2018 Forester has the gas strut on engine hood, gone in 2019. Oh, your not supposed to Rev the engines until the warm up complete, there is a blue temp light that goes out when engine to operating tempature. I drove the Crosstrek and Forester, I purchased the Forester because I'm 6' tall and have more interior space in Forester vs Crosstrek. Big gripe for Crosstrek was the emergency brake hand grip dug into the side of leg.
If I had to choose one I’d pick the Forester. The Crosstrek seems to be lacking some things for a limited model that the Forester has. I wish they didn’t have a CVT also. Nice comparison video. Keep up the great job! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@RaitisRides As a new Subie Forester owner (and not a mechanic), I wonder why all the "hate" on the CVT engine?? To this 60 year-old guy, it simply does the job quietly, efficiently, and reliably, getting one from point A to point B. What's the problem with it? Thanks!
Do you do comparisons across brands? Would love to see a comparison of Forester versus Hyundai Santa Fe. (Might seem a bit random, but those are two of the best SUVs for short drivers, so others may appreciate the same comparison.) Thanks!
Adding that second exhaust would look cool. And offering this in a manual transmission would definitely bring me over to the Subie side with that Forester. Oh, and more HP. It’s a big disappointment that the Crosstrek shares the same HP as the Impreza. I hopped in on a MT Crosstrek and loved the feeling. But again...that 152 😑😑
I love both, but the forester has that soccer mom aura while the crosstrek looks more aggressive. However, I wish the crosstrek came with a more substantial amount of power.

smart easy engineering and ergonomics! why are the Cadillacs hurting!? they need a lesson from Subaru regarding technology and user friendly interface for users.. great value, great cars...
@@LifeISMagix I do wish they would have considered either another color or 3 optional colors then that orange trim. What made me like it was the blacked out exterior package.
i own a 2016 impreza sport and when your driving calm it does feel really smooth cvt-ish BUT when you stomp on it the trans does have fake shift points that subaru engineered to make it feel more traditional . Once you hit about 100mph then it does hang the rpm at like 5k -6k. Ive only hit about 110-120 or so before you run out of highway LOL it does take a good minute though haha...
Why do you say there is only about thousand dollars between the limited models of both the Forester and the Crosstrek When I check the Subaru website the MSRP for the Forester Limited Is approx. $3,600 more ($30,799) then the Crosstrek Limited ($27,200)
The crosstrek is far from sporty with a 0-60 of 9.8 seconds and 1/4 mile at 16.9 sec. Slowest vehicle I have owned in a while but it doesn't really bother me as it's not meant to be a sports car.
@@RaitisRides I see your point and I am not saying that a vehicle has to have break neck speeds to be a "sports" car. I was just trying to say that other than it looking sportier than the Forrester, the crosstrek doesn't really have any other characteristics of a sporty vehicle such as quick acceleration or excellent handling. Again, I'm not complaining about it. What the crosstrek does, it does very well in my experience so far.
CVTs are fine with us. We have had them in other brands and awesome powerband. Personal opiniated video. Check the facts and reasoning to the "faults" you have.

Kayak friendly, bicycle friendly? barely a bike in Forester--outback 2020 - mpg?
What does this “global platform” thing mean I keep hearing?
Got the Suburu Forestor sport and absolutely love it!!
Its white with black and orange...and will keep its value
Go with the Forestor
I can totally see where you are coming from!
This is your BEST video. Please make more comparison videos.
Greta job! Love the energy!
Thanks for sharing that great input and for letting me share this one with you!
Joe the Crosstrek, Forester and Outback all have 8.7 inches of ground clearance. I have an '18 Crosstrek and love it. If you need more room for people and gear then Forester other wise the Crosstrek is lighter and sporty so more fun to drive.
Thanks for the great input Dan! I appreciate you watching!
What about Crosstrek engine and CVT reliability and longevity???
@@chrisk8187 Consumer reports has it near the top of it's class in reliability.
I am glad that I could help! Please let me know if you have any questions and keep me in the loop!
Good job with this Review Brother! I'm plan on buying one this summer, the 2019 Crosstrek.
Thanks Sam that really means a lot! Let me know if you have any questions! What color are you getting!
I plan on purchasing the Sunshine Orange! Take care and keep up the good work!
Subaru AWD is awesome! PS, remember to rotate tyres when oil change is due....to keep tread level on all 4 tyres even )
Very good point Geoff!
Thank you for sharing that great input from your onwership experience!
My 2017 forester was getting 35 to 36mpg for long rides. Do it.
Thanks I still deciding in a Forester or outback same engine should give same gas mileages.
As these vehicles are being used more often for sleeping in, would be great to show that the seats to now lie down nice and flat like other vehicles - and no raiser to adjust that floor either.
I like your comparison and your pointing out some areas where the cars could be improved.
Thank you David! That is really great of you to say!
Surprisingly good review. Lots of good info and easy to understand without being boring.
That really means a lot!
Thanks for making the video. I am shopping for a Subaru and the video help me decide between the forester and the cross trek
You are so very welcome Jim! Good luck with the search!
The most expensive one is always the best one from a dealers point of view.
Of course it is! Thanks for watching!
They really have hit the suv nail on the head!
Hello Joe, I'm enjoying your thoughtful inside on the Subaru brand for about 3 weeks now, I also subscribed to your channel, based on what I like
And bang for my buck, I'm going with the 2020 Forester Sport with the Harman Kardon audio system, beautiful utilitarian dependable SUV, many thanks.
You got a good one! What color did you get?
@@RaitisRides The dark blue pearl. The pearlescent is crazy. Looks vibrant blue in direct sunlight but damn near black in the evening.
That is a beautiful color! Well done!
I appreciate your feedback and perspective!
I’m actually very happy with the CVT on my Crosstrek. I would rather them get rid of the paddle shifters and replace it with back vents, back and front USBs and a 110v plug-in in the trunk area.
fantastic!! Just what I needed to decide between the Forester and Crosstrek :)
Thanks for the detailed review. As a person that is not 6' tall, I will find the seats appropriate.
Both of them are great cars. As long as you guys do maintenance, put the car on right handling & though Subaru does not have great design like competitors, they are amazingly functional cars in highway and light to medium off roads.
Can't justify Crosstrek in order to save slightly under $1K. Seems like the Forester is so-much-more car for just a little bit extra.
I can totally understand where you are coming from!
A really good review. It's 8.7 inches of ground clearance, btw, and those hooks in the back for grocery bags aren't new.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts ad input! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for showing the different features between the Crosstrek and Forester. Now I have more information before going to dealership.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Brian!
Yes fully agree about options both need a turbo option as well as manual transmission
Great minds think a like!
Crosstrek comes in manual too
just looking at the front bumper cover on the Crosstrek I'm 99% positive the reason the ABS plastic doesn't go from the bottom of the bumper all the way to the fender flare has to do with brake cooling. It leaves a channel for the air to get right next to the wheel to be sucked through the brakes.
I can see that, but I would like to do a little more research and find out.
I am so glad that you found the perfect car for you! Thank you for the compliment!
Raiti's Rides Thank you, sir! I hope so!
I'm sure you did!
Japanese 2000-2008 foresters had an amazing exhaust i have a japaned forester xt 2007 omg its so fun wish they offered xt all over the world 🌎 👏

Thanks for this comparison! I definitely like the Crosstrek better! It has better fuel economy than the Forester and I prefer to manually close the back hatch, rather than the push-button. I just wish the Crosstrek had more USB ports!
They get the same fuel economy.
@@seriouscatisserious I don't see how that could be true if they have different sized engines.
the little extra wide rear seats will allow the 3 bumber seats fit just right.
"Alright guys is time to do a little bit of boxing" haha that was epic
It would be a great intro everytime you do a boxer engine review
I am so glad that you liked that! That is a great suggestion!
Excellent comparison video Joe! I really like the Crosstrek and considered buying one but ended up getting a 2019 Outback with the 3.6 engine and I think it's a fantastic vehicle. Whenever you have a Subaru video my ears perk up!
Thank you Mark for sharing your input and your experience! There will be more to come!
Sorry the seat is slightly short for tall people, but the rest of us, who are 5'9'' or less, would not be able to sit back at all if it was longer. It's good length, taller people can surely ride comfortably too, or get an insert.
Those are some excellent points!
Been here since 10k subs its nice to see the channel grow!!!
Thank you Kevin for taking the time to say that! I really appreciate your support!
Thank you so for sharing your input and perspective on that! I appreciate you watching! Neither use premium!
Love Subaru! Love the comparison video keep them up!!
Didn’t mention the optional six speed manual on the Crosstrek! Sounds like Subaru is putting the 2.5 in the Crosstrek for 2021 which would be nice too!

That is so awesome of you to say Steve!
I will stick with my 3.6R Outback ! But great video!!!
Arthur Anderson agree. Decent engine and takes regular.
I would prefer an Outback myself as well! Thanks for the compliment!
So very true!
I appreciate you sharing your input and perspective! Thank you for watching!
That's not a response nor an answer.........
Some honest information would be extremely appreciated and useful!

A difference between the forester and crosstrek that he didn't mention was the upgraded sound system. The sound in the crosstrek is mainly for the front passengers, which sounds great but lacks in the rear seats. Forester, the sound is pretty equal for the front and the rear passengers.
That is a very good point Daniel!
Both were based on the impreza
Xv was a replacement for impreza outback sport
Forester was originally based on impreza (98-06) it was also a wagon then, not an SUV
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Heck I still drive a 99 forester for a work beater. Made my daughters buy it for their first car. It does look more wagon like than they wanted to admit but go buy parts. It will be listed SuV

I would 100% pay for a turbo Crosstrek.
WE did wait for the engines to warm up! The video is filmed and edited in a different order then what you see.
Not to nit pick but, it's 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
Thanks for the extra info!
I was going to say that, but I wanted to see if it had already been said. Thanks for beating me to it. 😁
Great video again Joe, for me I think the Forester is a better buy, looks better IMO as well.
You are getting more vehicle that is for sure!
Prop rod on the Forester. I believe it has two positions, which you couldn't get with the piston.
Thank you so much for sharing these extra tidbits of info!
If I had to choose one I’d pick the Forester. The Crosstrek seems to be lacking some things for a limited model that the Forester has. I wish they didn’t have a CVT also. Nice comparison video. Keep up the great job! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you sir! I wonder when they will finally drop the CVT!
@@RaitisRides As a new Subie Forester owner (and not a mechanic), I wonder why all the "hate" on the CVT engine?? To this 60 year-old guy, it simply does the job quietly, efficiently, and reliably, getting one from point A to point B. What's the problem with it? Thanks!
The CVT transmission is known to fail. You are not actually going through gears.
Great review Joe! Every time you say something about carrying kayaks I keep laughing.
Thanks brother! I hope you are enjoying your extra time!
Seems a lot of manufacturers are hiding the exhaust tips on direct injection motors like the crosstrek. The exhaust tips tend to blacken from soot.
Yeah but the Forester doesn't do that and it's engine is direct injected.
But again...that 152 😑😑
I totally agree with you!
Yo Raiti we love ur reviews !!
Thanks for letting me share them with you1
I love both, but the forester has that soccer mom aura while the crosstrek looks more aggressive. However, I wish the crosstrek came with a more substantial amount of power.

Plastic makes it look more off road capable?
It will take the wear better than gloss black.

i own a 2016 impreza sport and when your driving calm it does feel really smooth cvt-ish BUT when you stomp on it the trans does have fake shift points that subaru engineered to make it feel more traditional . Once you hit about 100mph then it does hang the rpm at like 5k -6k. Ive only hit about 110-120 or so before you run out of highway LOL it does take a good minute though haha...
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experience!
Great and practical comparison! Thank you.
Why do you say there is only about thousand dollars between the limited models of both the Forester and the Crosstrek When I check the Subaru website the MSRP for the Forester Limited Is approx. $3,600 more ($30,799) then the Crosstrek Limited ($27,200)
I was reading the window stickers Henry.
I would not call the Crosstrek a crossover or a suv. It is a car with AWD and high ground clearance.
I can see where you are coming from!
I'd agree but even the old ones are listed as an suv
It's the Impreza jacked a couple inches and a couple brand more. I got the Impreza, does great in Illinois snow.
IAG Closed deck block, burn the receipts and buy her the ring. This is a better buy.
Now you are talking!
That front of the Forrester is horrendous. I know we've gone down this road before and if I had to pick... I'd pick... neither. :D I got ya!
And that is okay to do!
The crosstrek is far from sporty with a 0-60 of 9.8 seconds and 1/4 mile at 16.9 sec. Slowest vehicle I have owned in a while but it doesn't really bother me as it's not meant to be a sports car.
If it accelerated 0-60 in 7.o secs would that make it a sports car?
@@RaitisRides I see your point and I am not saying that a vehicle has to have break neck speeds to be a "sports" car. I was just trying to say that other than it looking sportier than the Forrester, the crosstrek doesn't really have any other characteristics of a sporty vehicle such as quick acceleration or excellent handling. Again, I'm not complaining about it. What the crosstrek does, it does very well in my experience so far.
I totally understand Wes! I really feel that the Crosstrek is the swiss army knife of vehicles!
The Crosstrek is just a lifted Impreza hatchback
This is very true!
You can see the what's inside the grid of the Crosstrek. Also the Forester looks like the the Outback.
Missing air vents and charger stations in the back was a dealbreaker for me I made my choice😆

Great video! I own a 2019 crosstrek premium and love it, but dislike that they took out the temperature gauge on the odometer. :/ why did your wife sell her 2015 crosstrek?
I was surprised too, but there's an indicator in the upper center dash that tells whether the coolant of cold or normal temperature if it helps ...
I like that carbon fiber fitting, but I hope there is power source at the cargo area in the Crosstrek.
Very good points!
I like what Subaru is doing but I’ll stick with my classic 2.5RS coupe, nice in depth video!!
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
If you want a manual, or want great aftermarket support buy the Crosstrek, otherwise the Forester is better in almost every way.
Great points! Thank you for sharing them!
People complaining about the crosstrek's speed are stupid..it's not built for speed..it's built for performance and some off road capability..
It's nice to have some something a little peppy.
Would like to see a Crosstrek vs Outback comparison
