- The Tour of Flanders is the 2nd monument on the cycling calendar. The race is notorious for being a complicated mix of cobblestones, hills, wind, narrow roads, positioning, and race tactics. Additionally, experience and race intelligence are necessary for any rider to do well on these roads of the Flemish Ardennes. But above all, it's a true hardman's race.
The main favorites for the 2022 edition were: Tadej Pogacar, Mathieu van der Poel, Matej Mohoric, Kasper Asgreen, Stefan Kung, Christophe Laporte and Dylan van Baarle.

We weten al lang dat Pogacar een fenomeen is ! Mogelijks samen met Remco de besten uit het peleton ... Die 2 zijn nu reeds levende legenden. Ik heb veel bewondering en respect voor deze 2 renners. Maar wat onze Wout allemaal presteert mag je soms ook onmenselijk noemen ! de dingen die hij in de tour liet zien waren van de hoogste klasse.
En in de klassieke wedstrijden eindigd die steevast steeds bij de eerste 3.
en vanderpoel is de beste renner vd wereld

Pogacar should have chosen a long sprint like Asgreen the year before.
Mvdp started at 250 metres pretty long after a classic
As we say in good old Dutch: 'as is verbrande turf'.
Yup, he is one of the best riders in short explosive sprints, he is not that good in long sprints. That's why he beat Wout in 2020 (started at 200m) and got beaten by Kasper in 2021 (much longer sprint).

Pogacar was op het einde gewoon leeggereden. Als die nog veel poeder had gehad was die minstens 50 meter eerder weggesprongen. MVDP was de slimste en sterkste !

How can Mathieu ride number 81, when he was second in the race last year?
That's how it works. The defending champion wears number 1. His teammates wear 2, 3, 4, etc. The other team leaders get 11, 21, 31, etc, and their teammates the numbers that follow those in the same decade. MVDP wearing 81 means that Alpecin got the 80s and he's the leader of that team.

@@aaaaaaaaasdsdsd maybe. But while the leader is generally n. 1, not all races follow the same rules assigning numbers to teams as the TdF does.
