Edgar passed away in 2015. He was the only constant member if the band throughout TD's career. He pioneered electonica in the early 70's and developed the use of sequencers. Both New Age and electronic dance have their origins in TD. I was lucky to see them in 1974 and in 2014. Phaedra is a great track to help me chill when I can't fall asleep...both sides.

Tangerine Dream was formed in 1967 by Edgar Froese. Their catalogue even puts Zappa in the shade. Over 300 albums/EP's/Singles, about 40 film sound tracks and lots of other stuff too including 35 hours of music for one of the Grand Theft Auto video games. Also in programmes like Stranger Things
Edgar was the grand-daddy/pioneer of electronica, way before the likes of Kraftwerk and others.
    He died on 20/1/2015
I love his guitar playing though he's mainly renown for his keyboards/electronics. He seems almost a reluctant guitarist. His style for me is a cross between Hendrix and Gilmour.
Almost everything they've done is pure instrumental.
FROWSAY is how you say it I think though have heard it pronounced FROWS
A little titbit. David Bowie and Iggy Pop lived with Edgar and his family for a while and Edgar had a huge part in getting Bowie off his drug addiction.
Another titbit. Tangerine Dream's album Zeit is Steven Wilson's all time favourite album.
    Great reaction guys 🙂

@@paulfenwick8767 - In German, oe is the same as ö. FREW-seh is close, but it still misses some subtleties. And, Edgar may have, or may not have, pronounced his own surname differently than convention (think Bret Favre).

Edgar Froese, Conrad Schnitzler and Klaus Schulze - three mainstays of German 70s experimental music. It's hard to believe they were all on the first TD album in 1970.

Edgar Froese founded the band in 1967 and was the only one still in the band until 2015, when he sadly passed away.
So yes, he is a personality.

There’s plenty to say about Tangerine Dream, the many albums released is into the hundreds. I have over 500 hours of their stuff to listen to and it’s still growing. If you have the space and money collecting their music catalog would be awesome and an experience too. They are still going but sadly Edgar passed away in 2015, Thorsten was his apprentice as it were and has a great knowledge of things. Certainly something to enjoy. If you’re travelling press the shuffle option and you can easily pass away a few hours.

Ricochet is my favorite TD album, maybe coz it's the first one I heard. The Encore live album is also fantastic as is Force Majeure. I saw them live in 1979 and it was the loudest and most impressive 2 hours of my 17-year-old life up to that point. I was stunned at how good they were. I mean, I saw The Wall a few months later, so there's that. But honestly, give Ricochet a listen, lights off, headphones on, loud as you can.

For not being known as a guitar band, the old boy really let rip. If all of their stuff was a little more guitar-centric I'd have been more of a fan. This was great!

He always seemed a reluctant guitarist to me Chaz. Some of their early stuff he plays UmmaGumma like guitar and has a Hendrix influence too. Glad you liked it 🙂
