Yes! I am setting up a GoT level of intrigue in my current WD:DH campaign but admitteddly the info on Masked Lords is a bit scattered and I would love to know more about how they operate, their secrecy and who knows (the public doesn't but friends, other masked lords, their families etc)? Maybe also tie it in with how Dagult was ousted by unanimous vote of the Masked Lords? Honestly any info on the Masked Lords at all would help :)
I Have a question for you Mr. Greenwood. I would love to hear what happened to great Mage Kappiyan Flurmastyr who lived in the Southern Ward of Waterdeep. I feel he could have been just as much as a fount of stories as Mirt is. I also wonder what happened to his last apprentice Shalara (who I have to admit is a fetching tomboy of a young woman)
An assassin in any D&D setting needs to specify how the contract goes
"I was contracted to kill him, not assure he stays dead or unmoving in death."
You would think assassins would have flat out refused to take contracts on Mirt by now. Seeing just how much he can out plan them and out last them in all ways.....

Mirt is very resourceful and dangerous one of the most cagey D&D characters. Excellent video yet again and please have a good evening.
I've been enjoying these stories quite a lot! Please keep them coming for as long as you enjoy telling them! I do like to imagine we're on the road between towns and Ed is the bard telling the story to everyone around the fire.
Any video on the Forgotten Realms by Ed Greenwood is always meant to be a fascinating experience 👍🏻.
I don't know if he's already done one, but if he hasn't Greenwood really needs to narrate an audiobook.

I think the hardest part of trying to kill Mirt would (usually) be finding him. Waterdeep: Dragon Heist describes that "if the (player) characters do visit Mirt's manor, there's a 90% chance Mirt isn't home and no one answers the door". On top of that, the amulet from his lord's ensemble functions as "an amulet of proof against detection and location".
This time around though, it seems Mirt's lord's helm was the biggest obstacle ("This bucket helm covers your head and conceals your face. Screens over the eyes help to shroud your identity without blinding you. While you wear the helm, your voice is magically altered to sound genderless, and you are immune to magic that allows other creatures to read your thoughts, to determine whether you are lying, to know your alignment, or to know your creature type").
9:54 I'd never heard about the Greek amphisbaena (amphis = "both ways", bainein = "to go")! I've seen depictions of it biting its own tail (where the other head is), but without swallowing the head. The mythological serpent that is depicted that way is Ouroboros, but I guess both have similar symbolism (representing eternity or cyclicality).

Ah, yes, the only thing that is impossible in the Realms, though something many would love to accomplish
It seems surprise eludes me with this ending as well. After these many decades, I would expect the only way a masked lord is removed is by unanimous decision of all the others. Which is about as likely a one suffering a bought of suddden incompetence.
Yet, in spite of my lack of surprise, Ed tells the tale quite well. Cheers and well told good bard! 🍺

I did see the end coming from some distance away, but the story was no less captivating for it! Even the description of the smell of the fish alone would have been fully worth the listen 🙂

I enjoyed reading about Mirt in Death Masks. Really helped role-play him as a DM in my Waterdeep adventure.
Ed ur a god! Have you ever been apart of these fabled D&D games that apparently the writers and editors of D&D used to play back in the day? Did you play Elminster and Bob Salvatore play Cadderly with Elaine Cunningham playing Elaith Craulnober and Jeff Grubb DMing? Or did you all play new characters? And if so did those characters make it into the realms officially?

Considering the quality of work that ol' Big Ed is putting out, imagine if he was given the creative freedom to make his visions reality for WOTC.
Mirt is one of my favorite characters in the realms. He's extremely resourceful and interesting he's also quite deadly thank you and realms speak is excellent I have a hard time pronouncing some of these words in these books so thank you for the help and have a good evening 🌆❤️😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊.

I'm pretty sure you're mixing two things with the mythology of snakes at the end. It's Oroborous that's the snake eating itself (and is related to things like the hoop snake), the two headed snake tends to be more of one that the "safe" end (the tail) is another biting mouth.
I have a split class human 17 fighter/20 Magic User who would "remove" anyone you want to for a "small" fee! He currently rules Phlan.
If Elminster is like Superman, where he is nigh invincible and his only flaw is that he's not always in time to save those who he loves, then I would say that Mirt is more like Batman as he is basically just a man, great in a brawl, but if given prep time he can anticipate his opponents. Even Fu Manchoon couldn't directly or even indirectly obliterate him with magic.
Mirt's one glaring weakness is his alcoholism. As such, I would suggest hiring a rogue. Not necessarily to try to sneak up on him or try to poison him as that would just be folly and self deletion. Rather, he would wait for Mirt to go on his usual bender, then stealthily place a banana peel on the steps outside of his dwelling. Whether drunk or hungover, the lord of Waterdeep would eventually stumble out of his dwelling, slip on the banana peel, legs up in the air, and the back of his head hitting the stone steps with gravity and all of his weight doing the hard work.
It would be a tragic "accident," wouldn't arouse any suspicion, and eliminate someone who has too many foes to count.
@@NesseightOr just add even more and more potent alcohol, though getting his liver to surrender there might be a difficult and epic task in and of itself.

The sad part is the modern idiots of WotC think Greenwood needs to be cancelled and vaporized from history. For me the Earth avatar of Elminster is a treasured old sage that I am very happy is still walking the realms.
