From New Zealand. The unmanned Mk-II Aurora prototype reached a speed of Mach 1.1 becoming the first civilian aircraft to break the sound barrier since the Concorde.
The flight test took place near Mount Cook, in New Zealand’s South Island, with the aircraft reaching an altitude of 82,500 ft (25.14 km).
The Mk-II Aurora also set another record during its ascent, becoming the fastest aircraft to climb from the ground up to an altitude of 20km. It took 118.6 seconds for the Mk-II Aurora to reach this altitude, which is 4.2 seconds faster than the previous record holder, a modified F-15 fighter jet, in the 1970s.

82,000 ft. Ye Gods! That's above the F-22 ceiling by a lot.
@@ericb.4358 There is footage on youtube I think, quite amazing.
USA develops autonomous weapons to reduce soldier losses. Russia develops systems to increase soldier losses to save the expensive machinery.
Litterally not true at all
@@matthiuskoenig3378 Really? Why is that?
@@megapangolin1093 The US has very expensive systems. Russia does not. Russia makes cheap drones, we make expensive drones. Russia's equipment is not expensive. Military budget says a lot as well. Closing in on 1 trillion yr for the US, while Russia's is significantly less.
uh nah.
@@intheknow7659 that's not true. military budget 2021 russia $65,91 billion which is 3,72% of gdp and united states $801 billion which is 3,46% of gdp. since 1$ in russia gets you more than in the US the PPP adjusted military budget for russia is probably around $150 billion or so. the united states "spends" more than others because they have such a large economy.
The problem with cost is do to the lack of fixed price contracts. Cost overruns need to be on the manufacturer. BTW-Maybe if the Military Contractors spent less money on lobbyists and executive management, and more on building aircraft they would be able to build weapons systems that were less expensive.
Add to that the lifer corrupt generals in the pentagon who approve all these cost over runs, no-big-contracts and such and get paid off/rewarded when they retire as "consultants" to these very same companies.
If I had the approval power for example, to award contracts for paving a 1 block long street in my city, it was cost 20 million, take 6 years and afterwards that paving company would hire me as a "Government Affairs Consultant" and pay me 995,000 each year for 3 years. Then I would go next door to the next 4 or 5 other companies I wrangled as a government employee and collect my checks from them too.
If we burdened the companies with the cost overruns they would all shutdown. There is a problem with underbidding on contracts but this just isn’t the solution. Military projects are soo unbelievably expensive these companies would simply shut down if they had to bear the cost.

Bullshit, the requirements for this MOS is pretty stringent
You still need to go to flight school, everyone is a pilot.

How things have changed. Back in 1990 Bert Rutan / Scaled Composites made the Ares fighter jet to compete for military contract. While the Ares did everything and more required by the contract, Rutan was said to not win the contract because it cost less than $100k per jet. The military needed to spend millions per jet or they could risk a budget reduction.
We will see if Trump's DOGE makes a difference. Musk's SpaceX while getting gov. contracts cost mere fractions of what NASA's costs would be.
@@dlewis9760 - Better check the numbers the latest cost to get astronauts to/from the Space station is about 80% of what Russia was charging, hardly a fractional amount.
@@WJV9 It's called market based pricing. Even if you could provide a service at 50% the ticket price of your competitor you don't have to pass it all on to the customer, a 20% reduction is still a significant saving, and the extra profit can go into expansion and R&D, or amortising the development program costs more rapidly, which is significant as you've probably borrowed money to fund development and will pay less interest the faster you pay it off.
That and kickbacks are the real reasons for inflation and biggest out of control budget over runs.
@@dlewis9760 im sure Musk through Doge will work hard to make US taxpayer funds enrich him.
The efficiency and durability of these machines are truly remarkable
“Cheap” is a relative term with DoD.
It's easy to be complacent with someone else's money...
@ You can say that again.
Nothing is cheap when bought officials are in charge of procurement.
Yep they’ll find a way to make it expensive, then it will be delayed and more than likely canceled with zero accountability
When you make something that costs less, then it doesn't take away from what you pilfer.
"US Testing Super Cheap Fighter Jet for the First Time". Utter nonsense.
Maybe they contracted with the wiley smart Ukrainians to do so? If they went to US defense industry, a hang glider would cost 40 million each plus 2 years of pilot training, 50 million in spare parts and more in cost overruns, and be obsolete models 1 year later.
Decent radar is not cheap. And the size of this craft would mean a special design. It does not appear large enough for guns and both missiles it can carry must be air to air for defense. With a really great radar, missile that can fit inside, sound suppression, and a bunch of fuel this could be a special attack aircraft and reconnaissance vehicle. But not too cheap.
Yep, Make a Cheap Fighter, but Make it a DRONE! Pilots are Not gonna Be Pleased assigned to a "Cheap Fighter"
They can’t find enough pilots, and they’re super expensive and time consuming to train. Plus the pilot has been the weak link in fighter manoeuvrability for a long time. Humans can’t stand the G forces they’re capable of creating.
I thought the whole idea was to make it totally unmanned. With no human, it could be used for super dangerous missions. It could be CHEAP, with no life support. The pilots in the F-35s or F-22s could be largely out of danger, controlling the very expendable drones from a relatively safe distance.
Drones are still flown by humans currently. It's the weirdness of someone sitting in a hut in CONUS flying a drone on the other side of the world and yes pilots aren't keen.
They can also export it to third world country with low threat to air force and use it as an ISR, or close air support. Plenty of usable posibility.
Cheap is a relative term and does not necessarily mean bad. Sadly, the big wigs in the Pentagon prefer expensive over effective because budget and stuff.

Why does the 437 remind me of the Heinkel 162?
Take out a few satellites, whoops😂
Thanks, Times Radio.
I always thought a drone could have a hole cut into the top and bam! You got a cheap fighter jet. I should call them and ask for money for my idea.
Super cheap light fighter? If it comes without missiles or radar, this would be a reformer's every wish! Pierre Sprey's wet dream!
Crazy cool stuff that amazes me
We need an affordable fighter because if we ever enter a war an attrition rates are high, I don't think we're going to be ever to replace FA/18s by the thousands. But I do believe we should make them into drones. Unless the cheap aircraft have most of the survivable aspects a normal aircraft has. I've always thought about how fast we pushed jets out in WW2 and wondered how that could be replicated in the next war if our jets take so long to make these days and have price overuns into the millions, sometimes even billions. We can't make tens of thousands of F35s. If we can, I stand corrected. The same line of thinking goes towards ships. We need more drone ships that have fire mission capabilities to strike the enemy hard.
Since when us started caring about cost, they always used super costly items.
Are we now buying fighter jets on Temu?
Does this means that it cost 1 billion dollars instead of the usual 50 - 100 billion dollars?
If it is cheap and manned, 3D Thrust vector or 360 radar/RWR are a must, and let the missiles do the thrust vectoring.
since there is no cockpit, the manned part is at the best on the ground ;-)
other versions showed indeed have a cockpit but manned is not equal to cheap. That is due to the pilot....needing very expensive training at first and continued. That's why you'll see more and more drones also as wingman or autonomously.
The US is always testing something……… including everyone’s patience’s !!
They failed so badly with the F-35 they have to get the next one right.
Un avion Suédois...Ikea ! lol...
This is not the first time the US has looked at cheap jet fighters. The F-16 AND F-18 came from one of the last times the US was looking for cheap fighters.
Northrop F-5s.
@@aryaman05 Are you thinking of Northop's F-20 Tigershark upgrade that was done around the same time?
@@fubarace1027
Nope, the original for-export-only el-cheapo ones.
Is it possible to make an unmanned fighter jet?
Knowing the military they will choose the cheaper system. Not necessarily a bad thing though.
I don’t think you know the military very well. The pentagon loves to spend. Haven’t you noticed they keep using multimillion dollar tech to fight $100 weapons?
The military cares about kills per dollar in various combat scenarios. The top line cost isn't the main focus. Its life cycle cost versus how many kills it can accomplish under various conditions that matters.
Knowing the military they'll go for the most expensive option. Otherwise they face budget cuts at year end. Gotta spend it ALL - and more.
@ Apparently they haven’t passed an audit in decades. Lots of pal,s to grease, kick backs etc…. So yeah, the most expensive possible
Music is a little intense. Video would be more pleasant if it was a hair quieter. Thanks for the video though, I like your content!
Cheapest was the f5, drones are a little different.
That cutting all drone funding is a cut we must make for more effective defense and cheaper AA cannons and other AA options.
If 'Someone' in the Aviation Community took the Original 'Hy-Mats', considered a mid-level of "stealth" to it's varied wingforms, and scaled-up, oh, 30% to allow for a Pilot/Cockpit... Would that not be a decent Airborne "Command-Post" able to fly/fight for itself, yet direct a bevy of Autonomous Stealth Craft? It'd almost be, OH!, a BSG 'Raptor', but with Viper-like evasion....
Just want to know one thing. Will WW3 be Televised ?
WW4 will be not🐶
I’m afraid it may be Felt by all.
There is nothing is cheap for our military.
You mean we don't need to spend $90,000 to confirm the acceptance for a bag of bolts you can get at the hardware store for $20?
No.$90000☞$80000
Build cost $1m. Cost to taxpayers, 1000000000000000000!
Sounds about right
9 too many zeros. 1,000 x $1,000,000 is only a billion. Same as 10 F35.
@paulvandenberg5341
Ahhh, yes, the F-35. It was supposed to be "affordable " but somehow ended up as the most expensive weapons programme in the history of mankind!
My point is that taxpayers are always being ripped off by the arms industry
The F-35 was supposed to be "affordable " but ended up being the most expensive weapons programme in history!
@@oxcart4172 Well the key point is it will be the most expensive, as that 2ish Trillion is over 50-60 years, It is not that we have spent 2 trillion already. Also this value is actually expressed in Then year numbers or a projected USD value in 2060 not todays current USD value. (in other words this is taking inflation into account!)
However it is affordable, Current FA-18s, F-16s and F-15s built to current specs are not that much cheaper or are more expensive and have far less options or capabilities. Based on their current costs Three F-16s will not win a fight with two F-35s out side of very situational encounters.
Even so do you think three individual programs would of been cheaper over all? After all this is a large program involving the development of three different configurations, over 3000 aircraft to be built and maintained spread over a lifetime of some 60+ years, it was not going to be cheap regardless. Going with three different programs would not have been cheaper in the long run, though one could argue how much did we save...
Heh I would not be surprised if using todays money if one did the total lifetime costs of the F-15, 16 & 18 aircraft programs that the costs would be well over a trillion as well (never mind A-10 and AV-8 aircraft as well). No other aircraft has ever had its total life time costs estimated before.
Yes now superpower will have $1 value cheaper jets great.
Unmanned..... like the Whitehouse

Cheapest and most plentiful fighter with at least a little chance at beating the odds (in bulk) that can use drones? A good decision for future of manned flight. Get that cheap. Get it so that every pilot could have one. Going to need it.
4:50 not too sure what the manufacturer wants us to believe here, this guy hops out of the cockpit after what looks like a test flight with the undercarriage never retracted, but no helmet no chute not one hair out of place... ok so if this sequence is doctored, rigged, questions... why, and what else are they lying about
Just make it a drone. This thing can’t even guide a missile. It probably needs awacs and other assets to do it. So why put a pilot in it?
Temu fighter jet?
Tak ada murah dari US ini masuk kena lobby akhir kos meningkat sebab lobby ingat lobby itu korapsi
Den gab es neulich beim Aldi, sehr günstig. ;-)
Is there any research going on replacing a pilot with a robo-pilot? Instead of modifying a plane's control system by placing more sensors and actuators, just put the robot in the cockpit and any regular (non autonomous) plane will fly.
It will still cost us a few millions dollars. Unlike Ukraine’s drones- they actually costs only a few thousands dollars… 🤔🤔

Truly AUTONOMOUS operations would mean NO position updates relying on GPS or data coming from an outside information source. Truly AUTONOMOUS operations would be self-contained and therefore impervious to hacking. Updates to positions could be via tracking via optical means, star navigation or optical updates relying on known geographical points that are fixed and unmovable or susceptible to faking or disguise.
Truly autonomous would mean a computer is deciding who and what to target……

Is this a pirated recruiting film? Pilots are a dime a dozen and the cheapest component in the chain. Start treating them better and you will be able to hire as many as you need.
Pilots are most certainly not a dime a dozen. They're the most valuable component in the chain because they take years to train. You can build a replacement jet, while it takes years to train a competent pilot.
It takes a f$ck load of time and money to train fighter pilots. All the forces are having a hard time finding recruits. Geeze, just look at the state of kids leaving college. Half of them don’t know if they’re a boy or a girl.

Q. WHY do we need a "super cheap" jet fighter?????
This seems not just odd but totally out of character!
Elon said, F35 is not necessary.
Jet Fighter drone is his choice -- save lives, he said.
Elon is an idiot……he knows nothing about fighter jets or military techniques.
For a long time the pilot has been the weak point in airplane manoeuvrability. They can pull more Gs than a pilot can stand. So even an old F16 could theoretically outperform any fighter if there was no one on board.
Might not last as long though ! G- forces would take their toll ! But savings would be made on fit out and systems.
