I have the ecobee 4. Does alot more than he mentioned like scheduling, smart following using the sensors. Mine keys of the living room and family room sensors during the day and upstairs master bedroom and far kids bedroom sensors to give us the temp we want at night. Direct fan control, etc.

The issue with these is the offset. I have Tado one if i set it to 20 degrees for example the device will start only when temp drops to 19 degree or 18.5 after it reaches the 20 which is not great because you will be freezing untill you wait for temp to drop from 20 to 18.5 degrees. Ideally 0.2-0.3 degrees offset would be ideal then it can maintain the 20 degrees otherwise its not maintaining 20 degrees.

Log into your utility provider's website and see if they have discounts for these. My utility company provides some of these models completely free so yours may too.

You either have a schedule or you do not. If you have a schedule you dont need a smart thermostat a digital one does the job just fine. if you don't have a schedule then a smart thermostat wont help so either way don't bother. Me and my partner work different shifts so this would be pointless

The sensi and ecobi thermostats can also help keep humidity at a desired range so if you don’t have a dehumidifier it runs in overcool mode where it may cool past the set temperature but it’s to draw more moisture and thus lowering the humidity. Great for people in the south and can’t afford a dehumidifier
