  • Old Man Emu FJ40 suspension components are perfect for those who want ride quality over 'show' quality. I had to change my shocks, leaf springs and shackles because it was all 'end of life'. I bought the OME 2.5" lift kit. It a complete kit with 4 nitro charger shocks with new bushings, U-bolts for over the axles, steering stabiliser, OME 35mm OD/18mm ID bushings for the leaf springs, shackles, frame bolts and of course the leaf springs, In this video I don't explain how you should install the steering stabiliser. Just put it in the same way the old came out.
The spring kit it self was a 100% easy bolt on job. It fits perfect.
As the leaf springs are heavy, it's the easiest to put them on a jack first and then lift them towards the hangers.
Getting the old shackle and frame pins out was not easy. I had to use a lot of PB blaster of WD40 to get everything loose without damaging the frame eyes. So take your time!
I bought mine back in 2009 at www.wuestentauglich.de in Germany.
It was a group buy so we had a good deal.

I see you have the heavy spring packs , if you want nicer ride and flex remove the 3rd leaf from top of packs
All aftermarket suspension shock absorbers are valved too heavy for 40 series
When the vehicles were new they had factory non gas charged shock absorbers just hydraulic they are called .
Short wheel base and long wheel base 40 series shared the same Toyota part number for front shock absorbers.
Short wheel base has its own part number for rear shock absorber.
Long wheel base has its own part number for rear shock absorber.
    Different between models
The genuine rears are valved different softer for swb and heavy for long wheel base.
It makes a massive difference in ride quality .
Heavy springs and heavy shocks don't flex resulting in harsh ride.
I also found old man emu bushes very hard durometer and used terrain tamer poly bushes , softer durometer .
When the vehicle was new the suspension gave a nice ride empty even though a saggy look .
Bushes in spring and shocks were softer rubber and shocks were valved different in rears between models , springs weren't heavy duty .
Most replacement suspension is heavy duty , hard polyurethane bushes in shocks and springs and heavy duty big bore big bore big diameter shafts , incorrectly over valved shocks all makes for a uncomfortable ride unless we have very heavy cargo , even then the front is still over sprung .
luck we have inflatable tyres to flex 😆

    Hello, Sir
Why does EMU it’s so hard to get someone from the company representative and let them know they have issue with the EMU lift kits. I have the EMU Suspension lift kits, but the from bushings are the wrong size. Every time I tried to let them know they send wrong size for front bushing 36mm., but I need the 39mm, part #261 kit ED4ULT. All the sales people you have selling you kits look up shit by the year. When you tell them that EMU has it listed in the Master Catalog no one knows what the fu- I am talking about. My Toy Landcruiser is Americans 1976 and it was in between years when they when from a 4 cylinder to a 6 cylinder. My question is this how can I get 4 bushings that are 39mm size.
    Thank-You

Zoals eerder gezegd, fantastisch mooie BJ :)
    Cheers

De OME's zitter er met volledige carosserieopbouw er nu 2 jaar onder...en natuurlijk the famous hang to the left... De velgen zijn 16" en komen van een Deense FJ brandweerauto.

Really helpful video, I like old man emu and I am considering them for my BJ40. How is the lift height defined, is it something you adjust once you install the springs and shocks or is it something you have to plan in advance when you order the springs and shocks? Many thanks for your reply and for the video.

    • @ralphblekkink9426

Hi, it's sort of pre defined by the manufacturer. It's mainly the leafsprings that cause the increase in ride hight and the shackels. The way the leafs are bend, are stonger than stock, can carry more weight (certain pre-load). Manufacturer messures stock ride hight compaired with their leafspring setup.

@@ralphblekkink9426 OK thanks very much for the information. Do you know if they offer many height options or only one? I would like to increase the ride height a bit over the stock, something similar to what the fj.co do with theirs.

@@stuuser0 i'd checked at cruisercorps.com. Only 2 inch or 5cm for the 40 series LandCruiser. I know other brands offer more lift. I personally think 2 inch suits best without effecting ride caracteristics negatively.

No, i did order new ones, but they were stock lenght. When i first installed them, they looked quite short. But that was without the body/tub installed. With everything mounted, they have plenty overlenght.

    • @pzj70
      @pzj70  5 лет назад +1

HI Imran, Ride quality is good and as expected. But when ordering you might want to order also a spring leveling kit with it. All cruisers have the famous lean to the size on which the spare tire is located. Mine also with the OME kit. Overall that might be 5 cm of 2,5 inch hight difference. Mine hangs to the driver side.... but this effect you might experience after some months when the springs have had the full truck load to work with.

    • @pzj70
      @pzj70  5 лет назад

Hi Imran, The body / tub is mounted on all new Daystar polyurethane body mounts.
The car is left hand drive and leans down on the drivers side where the
      spare tire carrier is located.
The leaf springs in front are CS001F - Preload 0 (both)
The leaf springs in the rear are CS001R - Preload + (both)
Steering damper, Nitro shocks and bushings are all OME.
I've in stalled the whole kit myself, it was an easy bolt on job. All
parts fitted perfectly. The car is further completely stock with the
3B Diesel in front and the biggest left/right weight difference is
the spare tire on the rear.
ARB / Old Man Emu 's answer below:
As you mentioned some Land Cruiser 40 series are supplied with a rear
trim (lean) issue that has few options to rectify.
We offer same leaf springs with few tolerances PLUS, ZERO and MINUS. It
would be possible to install CS001R with MINUS tolerance into rear
passenger side. However this option results in slightly different
spring rate between left and right leaf springs, it is also difficult
to determine the additional height gained.
The second option would be trim packers, which retain the number of leafs
(spring rate), however we recommend a maximum of 2 trim plates on the
high side (10mm combined), although this leaves a remaining 15mm of
      trim to correct.
Also we can supply an additional leaf, which would be installed on rear
      Driver side. Nevertheless we recommend
you to purchase an additional leaf spring with center bolt (which
will be installed on leaning side) and trim packers (for possible
      correction).

pzj70 looks good. Any chance you would be willing to measure your shock distance eye to eye compressed? I'm having a hard time ordering my ome suspension

    • @pzj70
      @pzj70  6 лет назад

Hello Timinator824, when you order a complete OME kit with the yellow shocks and leaf springs, its a bolt on kit. No worries about the shocks eye distance. When you bolt the shock on the shock tower, you have to put the shock out to the lower mounting plate on the axle anyway. That's the way the system works. The leaf springs determine the distance that the eye of yellow shocks have to travel to mount them.
