Each time I listen to Brahms, I cannot help crying.
The highly unexpected minor chord at 15:58 gives me serious chills...
Goosebumps all over!! This is such a wonderful piece!! LOVE IT, LOVE BRAHMS!! Thanks and congrats to the orchestra for letting us have such a brilliant interpretation. :-)

One of the very first pieces of classical music with which I became familiar. It used to be very popular, but I haven't heard it for years.
Wunderbare Performance.
Shows Brahms ' love and respect for haydn.......what a homely yet perfectly festival piece for haydn....second variation haydn rocking on Brahms musical cradle...whopeee
A very thoughtful interpretation with wonderful attention to details of timing, phrasing and orchestral balances, bravo tutti!
Thank you!
We're glad that you like our performance 🤗
Einfach Herrlich.. aber auch durch das 1a Orchester!
Große Klasse!
Fabulous performance of this wonderful set of variations by this master.
Thank you! 🤗
Outstanding!
Einer der besten Brahms Werke überhaupt ❤
An outstanding performance.
Var. VII: was actually composed by an angel who left it on Brahms's nightstand.
So was 16:09
perfect
the 2nd oboe is always late in the exposition of theme. min.0.42 and 1.20
Pięknie wykonane! Gratulacje!
💙💙💙

That outro is superb
Gostei da musica
Obrigado 😊

It' s OK but 1,728 musicians to play something that Haydn swiped and performed with 25 max and 4 min, means it's a bit on the podgy side. Hope that Joe has had a word with Johannes about it!
The team is actually not by Haydn.
@@nilservik7964 No, I know that, Brahms apparently did not. He named it, not Haydn.
@@petercrosland5502 Well I enjoyed the variations very much. They are ,in my view, compositions that could stand on their own, very strong themes.
The original "Saint Anthony Chorale" as part of Divertimento in B-flat major was written for an ensemble of 8 instruments: 2 oboes, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon and 2 horns. Brahms indeed orchestrated his variations for a big orchestra, although the theme follows closely the original composition. It sounds good, it's meant to be juicy, emotional and we would never know the original without Brahms. The things is that Haydn wrote incomparably more music than Brahms, it's very nice of Brahms to have picked on this tune and have made one of his masterworks out of it.
@@theodentherenewed4785 I knew it before Brahms got his hands on it! Not sure it's meant to to be juicy, whatever floats your boat.
