- Turkey Run State Park is a top ranked, IN State Park that’s along State Road 47 in Marshall, Indiana. There is an admission fee at the gate (see link below for current prices) and long queues can form during high season. There are many levels on the 14 miles of trails from easy to very rugged. There are beautiful sandstone ravines and some old growth forests along Sugar Creek. Swimming is not allowed, but there are many places locally to rent canoes, kayaks, and inner tubes to float downstream. The hiking is much more comfortable in waterproof hiking boots because you trek in riverbeds and across uneven, muddy areas. I did see people in flip flops, but that just seems to scream twisted ankles. The trails are open from dawn to dusk and there are camping areas, lodges, and inns both in and surrounding the park. It’s a good idea to start your journey at the Nature Center just to get your bearings, fill up your water bottle, and go to the bathroom, because there are no facilities once you cross Sugar Creek.

Very nice job of showing the best of Turkey Run! I've been visiting it for 50 years. I take the easy trails now. 🙂
Thank you! I am so glad you liked it! We loved the trail too! ❤
Sugar Creek also runs through Shades State park a few miles away. Same great hiking without the extra's like nature center and pool which means far fewer crowds. I've been there week day mornings and evenings and not seen a sole. Turkey Run is great but Shades is my favorite for hiking.
That one is on our list!!! We have not been there yet. I'm so happy to hear it is awesome! Thank you for the tips!! We have a trail bucket list, and keep trying to check off as many as we can.
