I remember this event I lived in Camberley at the time. I knew Aldershot at the time was known as the home of the British Army. Chris did you ever have a pint in the Staff Pub opposite The entrance to the Staff College on the London Road (A30) Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't it members of 4th Para involved in this incident.
They didn't learn their lesson from the 72 bombing because we used to enter Depot Para in 87 through a side entrance which was a hole in the fence to get to the canteen for scoff as we were based at Malta barracks. We never got challanged once even though there were lads patrolling the the grounds in pairs armed with what i believe were pick axe handles. If i remember correctly the IRA bombed the canteen at Depot Para shortly after killing a couple who worked in the kitchen.
Thank you for watching, Chris deserves every credit, as does Luke...I am nothing special, just a guys story of what happenned around him....best regards to you..
I read something an American general said about cutting funding to the special forces because the need is going to be for large units of regular well trained infantry to fight the enemies on the horizon.
Mark, you humble me, I have much to improve about myself, I know I just want to be the best I can be, for others too.....Chris does a great job Mark, he desrves all the credit ...kind regards to you Mark.
One of the most interesting books I have read into those times, and I have read a lot, is Ten-Thirty-Three: The Inside Story of Britain's Secret Killing Machine in Northern Ireland by Nicholas Davies. He details the attacks he was involved in with meticulous detail. He claimed he was with a guy from MI5 called Mike on the day of Bloody Sunday and was embedded with the Paras and they were waiting on someone Marty to fire the machine gun first which never came. He couldn't tell if it was Martin Mcguinness or not as he never knew, but McGuinness was in control of the Cortina which had the weaponry in the boot. I find it odd no one ever refers to that story as his accounts are very accurate and meticulous in detail.
There have been a multitude of accounts, but sending the same unit to the BS march as were 'involved,' in the Ballymurphy.....incident doesn't smack of riot prevention...but how that decision was reached and why, we will never know. Respect to you sir and best wishes.

The paras are murdering scum, but they got their cummupance at Warren point, their speciality is shooting unarmed civilians in the back
