Nice. Glad you asked because I have been planning that. Just has it I recently performed numerous reviews, that most recent being a new Jeep Compass and Benz is coming up. I have been planning a new series of reviews with my own rating system that will help people balance the good and bad of each vehicle.
I really enjoy your videos. You are 100% correct. I was a car mechanic for years. The Jeeps are totally trash. I own a automatic transmission and eventually will stop you from shifting. YET my Toyota Highlander (that was a year older then this Jeep) that had a small white button next to the shifter that will allow you to shift the vehicle. In the Jeep, I had to tear apart the center console and remove the rubber grommet and shift it with needle nose pliers. You are very intelligent BUT no one will listen. Great video.

Worst vehicle I ever had was a Pontiac G6. Absolute trash... After the last fix we ended up giving it to our youngest for free as a "first vehicle." But that car must have been built on a Friday or something, I'll never buy a GM product again. You're so right about the Mercedes SUV concerning it's looks. I thought they were gorgeous looking cars when they first came out. Now they look so out of date, ugly and actually give you the impression of cheap quality. Keep up the great videos.
Avoid any unreliable BMW, Jeep or Mercedes-Benz at all costs. You can look for a reliable Mazda or a reliable Subaru at any given price. Thank you very much.
Since when are Subaru's reliable? I have several friends acquaintances and coworkers that have owned Subarus and all of them have had issues, from minor to catastrophic, within their first hundred thousand miles.
I've bewn liking what mazda has been doing lately. I honestly believe Mazda is making much much better cars. My buddy has a standard 2020. Mazda 3 hatch and its a little rocketship of a car. Corners at 45 and 50 no problem. I quite like the honesty and aesthetic to their SUV's as well.
I had a 2013 Grand Caravan for 6 years never gave me any trouble, sold it with 156000 Km on it and was still going strong however it was very properly maintained
Tks. for such great videos. In relation to the Jeep ones. Trust me the last really and reliable one made by "Daimler-Chrisler" was the Jeep xj 1998-2001. After that you are getting a great looking Fiat!!!! Greetings from El Salvador!!
Lol N54 can make a lot of power with a low price of entry but it's more of a tinkerer's car. I have a couple of them and basically alternate which one sits on the lift and drive one while I repair (and upgrade) the other.
Jurassic Park Jurassic World Mark's 335i N 54. Didn't it have its own RUclips channel? When razing my family, it was interesting that we would share most of the car brands. Jeep, Plymouth Voyager, Mercedes. As always, informative and entertaining. Kind of like therapy.
Hi, you bet I have owned several Japanese cars and you are right about them. I owned Toyota Corolla many years ago and ran like a top but used a wee bit of oil, Mazda RX7 GX 1988 and it was great other than a throttle position sensor, I had a Toyota Camry, what else can be said, and a Datsun 280xz which was amazing other than some rust. Overall very few issues and you get what you expect. I also had a couple of older Mazda GLC's, plain Jane and reliable as the sun coming up in the morning. Late model Honda Civic for my daughter and it just ticks along flawlessly as well as a Mitsubishi Eclipse which had some electrical issues and burned oil but reliable otherwise.
BMWs are bonified junk, and Merc Benz is not far behind. But because we prefer style over substance they make money, and yes beauty has it's own intrinsic value... but it costs - great Vid👍🏾
Has BMW ever made a solid car that will last 25 years with regular preventative maintainance? Also those Jeeps are junky. Cost a fortune to keep running properly
e46 and e90's last well past 20yrs. Just replace the cheap, plastic bolt-ons and VCG's...they'll run forever with regular interval oil changes. Both our 2 oldest boys drive E46's over 20yrs old and 170-200k miles and still running strong...tons of power. Stay away from the M cars though.

As a BMW owner, No, these cars were not designed for reliability. They were designed for parts to fail and they make a fortune off that, BMW adopted this in 2002 with the e65. They are status symbols, stylish and high tech and high performance. Nobody should own these newer BMWs past certain mileage and age. They simply fall apart. There is a crossing threshold of when it’s time to dump them. The car does not care about you. On that note, this is most likely my last BMW. 2014 F10 535i xDrive. I do plan to keep this car for a while but I know one day it’ll be in the shop more than on the road.
not surprised to see BMW on the list. I mean my GOD what is wrong with BMW? you would think that one of the best automobile companies in the world would figure out their problems but for some reason, they either ignore them or don't learn from them
Is there any way for a mechanic to detect these hidden BMW problems from previous owners? Some sellers are just not very honest. I hope BMW is watching.
I can totally sympathize….I had a 2004 BMW once and it was the nicest, fastest, most comfortable, and overall most satisfying car I’ve ever owned, but it was in the shop more than on the road and leaked like a sieve constantly. Way too much plastic in high stress areas under the hood. 😟 Also had a couple of Wranglers, and you’re right, awesome off road, torture on road, and weak front ends. Also garbage engines sadly.
Wow, your experience with the X5 has been a nightmare for your wallet. It's unfortunate that a nice vehicle like that is fraught with so many problems. German cars are sweet rides, however I wouldn't want them due to the expense and complexity of them. Cheers.
my wife and I both own e70 x5s mine has done 250000km and yes, a few things go wrong (show me a car over 15 years old that hasn't) my wife's has 165000km and has not missed a beat ..now we live in a warmer part of the world so maybe this may or may not have something to do with it not outside in the snow and always serviced on time
got a mercury a few years back and realized quickly it is costing me dearly just to upkeep because the previous owner didn't do preventive maintenance on it I know the 3.0 engine is a good combination with current transmission but if I woulda realized what I knew now I woulda thought 2x before getting it but the plus side once I do the pms and get everything fixed it should run for a long time it's got 136k and should go at least according to my research I even went as far as asking my grandma that owned a mercury she told me parts and labor are cheaper then buying a new car she's right for around 900+ or so will fix another issue on going. as for bmws never been a fan always stuck to cars my grandparents drove I own a mercury sable and older jeep and upkeep them yearly...sad to say I'm gonna try to find a Toyota or lexis or Honda or Acura next any suggested cars would much appreciate it.. cuz looking into reliably over luxury
have an 04 grand cherokee good engine and transmission but found out it burns a bit of oil but have it for 8 years upkeep has been done minus the rust. got 190k fixed everything I could. got told that those older jeeps can go 300k if not more with professional maintenance
North American roads and vehicle usage far surpass the demands in Europe. These luxury German vehicles just fall apart here and they’re just a waste of money, a headache, and not much better than Japanese and Korean alternatives in performance. Needless to say, I just bought a new Mercedes GLE. Nobody tells me what not to buy!
People gotta know those German cars look great but you don't buy them unless repair costs are not an issue or you lease them. I've seen Porsches and Mercedes have major issues at 80k. BMW does a little better but plastic stuff under hood cracks and leaks. Audi may be your best bet up to 100k. Parts are just nuts.
I've had 3 Chrysler/Dodge products and every last 1 gave me problems and one of them was from brand new. A 2014 Dodge charger. That car made me say I'll never buy another American Car. I've been driving a Lexus ever since. But I have a question for the Mercedes and BMW guys. I think I know the answer. But which is a more reliable car ?
Hi Benny, the videos will live on, I will continue to share news, and even do reviews, so BMW will live on, just don't see having one in my garage......other than the M5 which is still being considered. Have a great weekend.
Hi, yes I still have the M5 and am actually considering the sale based on the silliness of the current car market. The X5 is leaving once I get the offer and still working on that. Personally, I am done with the brand altogether, however, there are those who are still willing to lease one or own one for the short term, and if that's the case, I would say the X3M40i or X3M are the ones to have.
What do u think about the new m340i b58 engines I fell in love with that car I really eventually wanna get one but it’s bmw so idk but let me know what u think ?!
I have a 2012 BMW X5 Idrive 50i. It runs good and replaced in the battery and had the block valve fixed to keep on it from sagging in the back. It seems you're now sour on BMW after you were fine with them. What happened?
Hi Eric, the big shift came in the frequency of repeat failures of expensive parts, not because they failed once, but often more frequently. There have been some mixed concerns with the brand in general too.
Feeling like your videos went from BMW N54 just do maintenance and replace all the hoses you can get your hands on to I hate BMW. Meanwhile you have another headache in your drive way. Not sure what you’re trying to get out of you complaining if you very well knew and know German cars are more for the driving experience than their reliability and it has been for years.
To be clear, its more than quitting everything cold turkey, on the contrary. Life too short to drive boring cars and its still important to most people that we get something fun, stylish, exciting, or at least interesting about the cars we buy. There will be hiccups and I realize and am good with that, if the value exceeds the hassle. In other words, the "Car Works For You, or Against You" and BMW has crossed that line for me. Can they come back? Maybe with a. stronger focus on the quality, who knows, but for now, I am out.
BMWs are like expensive girlfriends. At some point you need to settle down with a reliable wife :-) This is coming from an E90 owner. I take very good care of it and do all the maintenance (plus a lot more) myself so it's been good to me, knock-on-wood. But I am also certain that this is my last BMW. The next one's either a Lexus or a Tesla. But that will only be if my E90 becomes unfixable, I don't like throwing away money for no good reason.
Well I'm surprised that your list did not entirely exist of BMW'S.....this coming from the king of BMW brand bashing.Well,at least your list present more BMW'S than any other.Continue the BMW brand bashing.....at least you constant!!!!
I have owned three Beemers (E28, E39 and E60). They were good ones. Actually E60 had a lot of small issues. E28 and E39 had rust issues but generally pretty solid cars. My brother bought a low mileage X5 back in 2015 and that car was just a nightmare. New BMW's are pure garbage. It's very sad thing to say from a longtime Beemer fanboy but that's just how it is. The very new models with huge grills are so ugly that small children shouldn't even see them.

You're so right about the Mercedes SUV concerning it's looks.
I thought they were gorgeous looking cars when they first came out. Now they look so out of date, ugly and actually give you the impression of cheap quality.
Keep up the great videos.
Thank you so much for the support Marty. Yes, some vehicles just do not age well. Have a great week.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us in this detailed video.😊
You are very welcome
Avoid any unreliable BMW, Jeep or Mercedes-Benz at all costs. You can look for a reliable Mazda or a reliable Subaru at any given price. Thank you very much.
Very true!
@@ECPP Thanks
Since when are Subaru's reliable?
I have several friends acquaintances and coworkers that have owned Subarus and all of them have had issues, from minor to catastrophic, within their first hundred thousand miles.
I've bewn liking what mazda has been doing lately. I honestly believe Mazda is making much much better cars. My buddy has a standard 2020. Mazda 3 hatch and its a little rocketship of a car. Corners at 45 and 50 no problem. I quite like the honesty and aesthetic to their SUV's as well.
@@williamegler8771 I think its happens man. Every now and then, theres that oddball Gem, and that one person who spends a fortune to keep em running
Greetings from El Salvador!!

surprised you did not add your M5 V10 to the mix, with bad rod bearings, SMG problems, coolent and oil leaks, plus plus plus!
Great point!
So helpful , as per usual.

Lol N54 can make a lot of power with a low price of entry but it's more of a tinkerer's car. I have a couple of them and basically alternate which one sits on the lift and drive one while I repair (and upgrade) the other.
Haha, true that’s sort of the way with that car.
I wouldn’t buy another BMW either, except for another E30 318is or an M2. I’d buy yours though, Mark 😆😆

Haha you bet Thomas, there is certainly a lure to many of these for their own reasons and we go through those phases in life.
hey man big fan I want to ask you if you can make a video about best and worst V12 German cars thinks and keep up the good works 👍

Great video. Thanks for sharing your hard learned experience.

Scottys right then shame on BMW and Mercedes
Really enjoy your presentation Mark. Have you ever owned any Japanese cars and if so were they reliable, i strongly suspect they were.

Thanks a lot. Yes these cars no longer car the quality banner, but rather a throw away bin with fun tech.

e46 and e90's last well past 20yrs. Just replace the cheap, plastic bolt-ons and VCG's...they'll run forever with regular interval oil changes. Both our 2 oldest boys drive E46's over 20yrs old and 170-200k miles and still running strong...tons of power. Stay away from the M cars though.
It really sounds kind of painful, especially the last one!
It really was a pain.
Great n honest video mate thanks, I decided early on in th mid 60s I'll never buy an expensive car ever again after i was saving for almost 3 years a the cars I really loved where Jaguars, bought oe late 60s then soon I realized this is Not a working man's car Indicator switch o a Ford £2.n 10 shillings including flasher headlight dipper, Jaguar £10 n 10 shillings only turn signal no other function exhaust almost as expensive as a recon Ford engine it went on n on after that I kept to Fords n Vauxhalls (GM) once I bought my First Toyota after about a year I knew Japanese cars for me Even I bought a Ford diesel 1.4 n had it till it was illegal to drive in London within the NCR very reliable economiccal n great car, Expensive car are Not for working class people

BMW, Chrysler, MB-the foundation of the North American car repair business.
Haha, right?
I really wanted the M340i, but I always hold myself back after watching you and Scotty :(
Thats fair, but I would say the B58in that car is the most reliable of the brand right now, and sort of fun to drive.
When it comes to BMW. Unless leasing it new, only buy the 40 badge models. That’s the B58 engine.
One of my close friends; His 2008 335i N54, 2 injectors ish the bed... A set of index-12 costs almost $3K!!
They are very pricey indeed.
As a BMW owner,
No, these cars were not designed for reliability.
You are totally right and there was a time many years again when that was not so much the case, but it is today.
not surprised to see BMW on the list. I mean my GOD what is wrong with BMW? you would think that one of the best automobile companies in the world would figure out their problems but for some reason, they either ignore them or don't learn from them
That’s also why used car dealers do not like taking these on trade if they are older than. 5 years
Honda Accord and Acura Integra were junk because I bought ones that were abused for cheap. At least nicer cars are usually well maintained.
True
Is there any way for a mechanic to detect these hidden BMW problems from previous owners? Some sellers are just not very honest. I hope BMW is watching.
My advice....Scotty Kilmer....LEASE....LEASE....and LEASE. when the lease is over...don't walk away...run like you are being chased by a bear 🐻 🐻❄ 🤣.
In some cases , yes abuse can be indentified
Great video brother. Thank you for heads up on those vehicles. God bless 🙏
Any time. have a great weekend.
@@ECPP God bless u stay safe😎👍
I can totally sympathize….I had a 2004 BMW once and it was the nicest, fastest, most comfortable, and overall most satisfying car I’ve ever owned, but it was in the shop more than on the road and leaked like a sieve constantly. Way too much plastic in high stress areas under the hood. 😟
Also had a couple of Wranglers, and you’re right, awesome off road, torture on road, and weak front ends. Also garbage engines sadly.
Right?
Wow, your experience with the X5 has been a nightmare for your wallet. It's unfortunate that a nice vehicle like that is fraught with so many problems. German cars are sweet rides, however I wouldn't want them due to the expense and complexity of them. Cheers.
my wife and I both own e70 x5s mine has done 250000km and yes, a few things go wrong (show me a car over 15 years old that hasn't) my wife's has 165000km and has not missed a beat ..now we live in a warmer part of the world so maybe this may or may not have something to do with it not outside in the snow and always serviced on time
got a mercury a few years back and realized quickly it is costing me dearly just to upkeep because the previous owner didn't do preventive maintenance on it I know the 3.0 engine is a good combination with current transmission but if I woulda realized what I knew now I woulda thought 2x before getting it but the plus side once I do the pms and get everything fixed it should run for a long time it's got 136k and should go at least according to my research I even went as far as asking my grandma that owned a mercury she told me parts and labor are cheaper then buying a new car she's right for around 900+ or so will fix another issue on going. as for bmws never been a fan always stuck to cars my grandparents drove I own a mercury sable and older jeep and upkeep them yearly...sad to say I'm gonna try to find a Toyota or lexis or Honda or Acura next any suggested cars would much appreciate it.. cuz looking into reliably over luxury
woulda fix the mercury myself but have no time
have an 04 grand cherokee good engine and transmission but found out it burns a bit of oil but have it for 8 years upkeep has been done minus the rust. got 190k fixed everything I could. got told that those older jeeps can go 300k if not more with professional maintenance
Awesome video's just curious what about a 2007 328 with the in-line 6 non turbo car?
The maintenance costs are very high on some of them for sure.
Good Boy
Try if possible do something on Mercedes EV those new for 2023
good thing you know how to do the job I pay over a g to get that job done and as always they fix one thing and break something else in the process
The DIY is the ultimate shift of power.
My worst were two Audi A4's, one with the 1.8t the other a 2.0t. Both ended up being money pits
They are not great
That's the thing with these Germans. Once you fix one thing, another pops up. This from a 325is and Q5 owner.
That has been my experience as well
Which are the best cars you have had???
Thanks for asking and I will share that in upcoming vids.

Exactly
Don’t you still have your M5, Mark? Also, any X models that you would buy?
Hi, yes I still have the M5 and am actually considering the sale based on the silliness of the current car market. The X5 is leaving once I get the offer and still working on that. Personally, I am done with the brand altogether, however, there are those who are still willing to lease one or own one for the short term, and if that's the case, I would say the X3M40i or X3M are the ones to have.

They are better than previous engines but time will tell.
I have a 2012 BMW X5 Idrive 50i. It runs good and replaced in the battery and had the block valve fixed to keep on it from sagging in the back. It seems you're now sour on BMW after you were fine with them. What happened?
He’s got plenty of videos on why he hates bmw
Hi Eric, the big shift came in the frequency of repeat failures of expensive parts, not because they failed once, but often more frequently. There have been some mixed concerns with the brand in general too.
Do you remember the error code/message on that N54 boost leak? Thanks.
Sorry, not off hand, I would have to go back in notes

what about the n55 f30's how reliable are they?

right?
Wow that black BMW looked like my nephews
Has he had many issues?
@@ECPP so far no but I wonder if he will later
BMWs are like expensive girlfriends. At some point you need to settle down with a reliable wife :-) This is coming from an E90 owner. I take very good care of it and do all the maintenance (plus a lot more) myself so it's been good to me, knock-on-wood. But I am also certain that this is my last BMW. The next one's either a Lexus or a Tesla. But that will only be if my E90 becomes unfixable, I don't like throwing away money for no good reason.
I've been an E63 LCI owner for 12 years, and will be for some more years, but this is my last BMW as well.
Exactly

Solid cars
I have owned three Beemers (E28, E39 and E60). They were good ones. Actually E60 had a lot of small issues. E28 and E39 had rust issues but generally pretty solid cars. My brother bought a low mileage X5 back in 2015 and that car was just a nightmare. New BMW's are pure garbage. It's very sad thing to say from a longtime Beemer fanboy but that's just how it is. The very new models with huge grills are so ugly that small children shouldn't even see them.
Yeah man, I agree with you. The new ones with the big grilles are eyesores. Total Buttface design.
